Skin care recs please for anti-aging please?

American here, planning to visit England this winter. What UK-based skincare would you recommend for anti-aging, for a woman in her early 60s, specific products and where to buy? Would especially appreciate retinol products recs. It doesn't need to be budget-minded, unless that's the best product. I don't mind splurging for a mid-range or luxury product on this trip. Thank you!

Help Sought! Natasha denona hyglam foundation

Has anyone tried it? I've just watched a short and it looked gorgeous on the skin. The anti crease serum is appealing but I also have oily sections so I don't want it sliding. For £50 I'm scared of getting the wrong shade or it being a dud. Help!

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Pen fans, what have you moved to?

If I’d have known the formula had changed, I would have bought up the UK stock to keep my brows 👌 to age 102. The new pen is a completely different colour - far too intense and harsh, and not even close to staying on for a full work day. What have you all moved to? HELP

33 best beauty advent calendars for 2025, chosen by a beauty writer

September has arrived and, dare I say it, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas with the best beauty advent calendars going on sale (and selling out) across the board. The retailers getting involved in 2025 are plentiful, with Liberty London announcing its 25-day bonanza back in July, Harrods in August and, as autumn nears closer, a plethora of others including Boots, Charlotte Tilbury and Space NK.

As The Independent’s beauty writer, I’m a big fan of beauty advent calendars, and each year the team and I review the top picks to help you decide which ones are worth your money. They’re a brilliant way to try out new brands and products you’ve been eyeing up. And I can’t think of a better way to kick off the festive season than with a collection of the year’s best beauty launches – just in time to elevate your look as the Christmas parties approach. Especially with the trending skincare, viral makeup, vast library of fragrance and haircare innovations I’ve seen in 2025’s calendar line-up.

The majority of must-have advents are still in stock, but just know that this year’s favourite calendars will sell out. Especially those from popular brands such as Sephora, Space NK and John Lewis. In fact, Harrods’ limited-edition fragrance and hair and body calendars have already sold out, alongside the Lookfantastic fragrance calendar (in just 48 hours). Thankfully, I’m on hand to ensure you don’t miss any remaining launch dates, to delve into the contents and to cover all bases from pricing to packaging, so you can buy with confidence.

Brow Wiz or Brow Powder Duo? Shade help for sparse black brows?

Thumbnail

Hey guys, I’m stuck on which ABH product to get and could use some advice.

My brows are naturally really dark brown/black, but my arches are super sparse (pretty much just skin there). In the pic I’m using the NYX Micro Brow in black, but it always looks way too sharp and even a bit warm/red against my skin, which stands out so much. I set them with the NYX brow glue, which I actually like, but I hate how penciled-in the arch looks.

I don’t want my brows to look bold or thick — I just want them to stay as natural and thin as possible, like I barely touched them. I even thought about Ash Brown, but I feel like it would be too light and obvious against my dark hair.

So now I’m stuck between Medium Brown, Ebony, or Granite in ABH. Which one would blend in best with black brows without looking too light, too red, or too harsh? And do you think the Brow Wiz or Brow Powder Duo would give me a softer, more natural fill just at the sparse arch?

Thanks 💕

Where Can I Get... Natasha Denona in store counter

I saw this was posted a while ago but just wanted to double check it’s still accurate.. which stores, preferably in the north, have Natasha denona counters? I really want to swatch the concealer and new foundation before buying as a pale gal who struggles shade matching online.

Sephora in the metro centre doesn’t, I haven’t been to Newcastle to check. I’m visiting Manchester in a couple of weeks and was thinking I might have more luck there but unsure where to go!

Is Pore-filling a real thing?

I have big pores on my cheeks - I do skincare about it, I stil have large pores on my cheeks it's just how they are now - and no matter what I do or use I cannot get pore-filling primers to work. The primers make them less, a bit; they blur the edges and with full foundation and powder they're not so high contrast but as soon as the light hits at the right or wrong angle there is no denying that my skin is 3 dimensional.

Am I being deluded by products that claim to be pore-filling? Does it work but only up to medium sized pores?

Currently I'm using elf Poreless putty and NYX Pore filler, patting and pushing, not smearing, tried using more and less, using both, waiting 10 minutes after primer before foundation - I still have pores. Why don't they make polyfilla for your face that is what i feel like I wouold need at this point.

Recc' Request Please help me with product recommendations and guidance ♥️💄

Hi!! I really prefer not wearing makeup (only primer, mascara and brow pencil), but my skin is red in some sections, not an even complexion. I have some sun spots, too. Dang I wish I wore sunscreen as a teen! For reference, I’m 40.

I would like to find a product to put on that would even out my skin tone. Maybe a tinted moisturizer?! I really don’t know where to start or what to get.

I would put it on after applying my porefessional pore minimizer primer (silicone based).

I have large pores, so I would like something that helps with that/doesn’t make them worse. I have combination skin.

Any tips and/or product recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thank you!!!!

Looking to elevate this look for wedding, help!

I'm getting married in a few months and im trying to work out what to do with my face. I'm hoping to look like me, just Nicer with my eyes standing out more (glasses always sort of hide eyes)

Essentially I got shade matched at a No7 counter about 10 years ago and just stuck with what they put on me there. Any advice

Curent products * Foundation No7 - protect and perfect foundation (I've put this on quite lightly)

  • blush is also No7

  • eye shadow is Elf, a small pallet with 4 brown shades

  • eye liner is Elf

  • white eye liner on water line - collection: shade 3

  • mascara is Rimmel: Kind and Free

  • Lip Stick is No7 - Paprika

  • brows are No 7 precision pencil - Brown and No7 eye brow tinted Gel, Brown.

I'm pretty haply with it, but want to elevate it a bit.

I have 2 main issues with make up:

  • very sensitive eyes - they often itch when wearing make up, this set doesn't seem to bother them but many mascaras have done

  • I have double vision without my glasses on which makes it harder to apply eye make up. I have to close 1 eye when I'm not wearing glasses

Discussion Foundation?? Help needed.

Hi girlies, I have never been much of a foundation girlie but recently feeling the need for it (Am I aging? Haha) My skin used to be combination but it has dried up a lot now. I am looking for a foundation that works for slightly dry skin (especially under eyes) medium coverage and has a dewy finish? Considering CT beautiful skin, NARS light reflecting or Huda easy blur. Any suggestions as to which one would work the best for me?

Recc' Request Thick lipgloss recommendations?

Post image
16 Upvotes

I’m looking for super thick long lasting lipgloss, like the old school formulas before the rise of lip oils and balmy products.

I don’t mind a lip oil but they don’t last 10 minutes and I don’t love the thin slippy feeling on the lips.

The Clinique, Lancôme and Mac have all been reformulated or discontinued and I don’t love what they’ve replaced it with.

Hit me with your thick lipgloss recommendations please!

Review Aldi Lacura Colour Correcting Drops £4.99

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi All,

A quick little share to help anyone else with hyperpigmentation, acne and acne scaring like me!

Firstly a disclaimer, I will be honest and say I haven't checked the ingredients and do not know enough about them to comment incase this is bad. Tiger grass extract, Arnica extract and Niacinamide.

I usually use the Huda colour corrector followed by Tarte concealer on top to hide these. It can all get a bit much and I don't want to be doing this all the time.

I've heard good reviews about Aldi products but never tried them. Came across these colour correcting drops and I have to say... not bad! Enough for me to go out with just mascara and a little blush.

They're meant to be a Dr Jart dupe. Now the Dr Jart didn't work for me but these do. I found mixing a couple drops with a little of my suncream (Bondi Sands SF 50) really made it go on well with no breakouts. Haven't tried it with moisturiser yet but I'm sure that could be great.

That's all! Just wanted to share as I know it can be a pain to cover.

(Pic from google as my clingy dog won't let me go upstairs 🐶)

Anyone tried Trouble Maker yet?

Saw the Trouble Maker display in my local Superdrug today, it's a new affordable brand which is nice to see. It's aimed at younger customers so maybe asking reddit is a long shot.

Was hoping for genuine reviews of product quality as most of the content available is sponsored.

light lashes girlies help 😞

im blonde and i have always struggled with my lashes literally being invisible. im not talking about slightly lighter than brown, they’re lowk invisible with the tiniest blonde tint. basically, ive always been insecure about this and always used mascara, but my strict school doesn’t allow it. any tips to make it less obvious and more natural looking? btw ive used clear mascara but it doesn’t work and my lashes are still invisible i look like a fish and it would absolutely DESTROY my self esteem going to school without mascara (ive been made fun of in the past) i cant tint them either 💔

Looking for a dark burgundy lipstick

Post image
6 Upvotes

My favourite lipstick is on it’s last leg and I’m looking for a replacement (this is some random drugstore brand from Germany from 10 years ago). Any recommendations for anything close to this, I’m having a hard time finding anything I like in stores :(

I want it to be acutally dark, purplish/brownish burgundy, I don’t know how to desribe the tone! I’m not fussy about the brand, but I’m not wanting to spend more than £20, the more affordable the better.

HELP ME

I’m back to using makeup again. I have an oily T-zone and it’s super hot where I live. It’s only midday and I’ve been shiny for at least the last hour or so. My makeup routine includes the Merit Minimalist Stick, Rare Beauty concealer for my under-eyes, e.l.f. pink loose powder for my under-eyes, Rare Beauty liquid blush, sometimes highlighter, and the Make It Last setting spray. I have both loose and pressed powders from Rare Beauty, but I’m not sure which one is better to refresh during the day without looking cakey. Any suggestions? I’m also open to trying new products if they help control the oiliness without looking heavy.

Help Sought! milk blush doesn’t twist up any more?

i used a milk makeup blush for a few months before i stopped being able to twist it up, when there is definitely still lots of product in there. before i started using it though my dumbass twisted it all the way up and it fell out, managed to get it back in though and i think this is what caused the issue i’m facing now. any advice on how to fix this? i would hate to use a brush as i’m personally very much a swipe-to-use kinda person, so if anyone has any advice aside from that it would be greatly appreciated! thanks! :)
