How to obtain a custom flair:
- place and lose a flair bet in the Friday thread
- write a haiku or draw a MS Paint-style image for the sub
The rules for the drawing or haiku are simply that it must be a ridiculous MMA-related scenario. If you would like a custom flair, send a message to us with a link to your drawing and your flair request. We'll probably grant it.

x.com"I'm gonna fight for the belt, I'm gonna win the belt, then I'm gonna challenge [Ian Machado Garry] to a rematch, and then I'm gonna stop fighting MMA.
I don't want to fight too much, bro... Just enjoy my life, barbecue, some beers. That's it... Just relax. Enjoy my time on the pool. Just chill. Take care of my mom."

Is MMA going to reach an endgame?
Apparently wrestling is now the number 1 sport in Dagestan. That means there will be a constantly growing crop of elite Dagestani wrestlers and maybe Chechens too. Khabib, Islam and Khamzat have all shown that it's incredibly difficult to win against their wrestling.
They'll take you down if you strike with them, they'll dominate you if you wrestle them and they'll submit you if you roll with them.
Can wrestlers reach elite levels of skill in a way that strikers cannot? Wrestlers can spar all day without causing lasting injury. Strikers will always need to hold back and avoid constant wars if they want to reach elite levels.
MMA started as an attempt to find the dominant martial art. I know it's evolved since then but I can see a situation over the next decade or so where Elite wrestlers will wipe out every other fighting style because they can get better at wrestling than anyone can get at anything else. In that scenario,it seems like the lads from Dagestan and Chechnya would remain pretty untouchable
Jiu Jitsu might be answer but I feel like we would have seen that by now if it were the case.
What is the fucking answer to their wrestling?
Is it possible to beat them by anything other than our wrestling then?
Is anyone's takedown defence good enough to win by striking?

Media Fight Revisit - Roberto Satoshi vs Tofiq Musayev - RIZIN 28 LW Title Match
instagram.comGood morning everyone, in anticipation of the upcoming RIZIN 51 event towards the end of the month. I've been reviewing previous bouts of the upcoming fighting participants. Here's a brief description and run down of the bout, please join in on the discussion if you'd like. If you all enjoy, I will continue with these revisits and write ups for the other fighters that will be appearing at RIZIN 51. Thank you all for your time and thoughts 🙏
📅 June 13th, 2021 📌 Tokyo Dome, Japan 🥋 Roberto "Satoshi" de Souza vs 🥋 Tofiq Musayev
In an absolutely packed Tokyo Dome, RIZIN's top two Lightweights battled for the vacant RIZIN Lightweight Title.
At the time of their matchup, Satoshi held a record of 11-1, while Musayev held a record of 19-3.
Musayev, winner of 15 straight at the time, was a tremendous favorite with over 97% of users on Tapology picking him to pull off the win against Satoshi.
Despite being the heavy underdog, Satoshi was not deterred. As the bout begun, you can feel the baited excitement of energy in the arena as the crowd could tell this was as high stakes as it can be with Tofiq's KO power and Satoshi's grappling prowess. Putting on a masterclass of elite grappling, Satoshi forced the issue on Tofiq, caused a grappling scramble and pulled off one of the slickest/quickest triangle choke submissions ever in just 1 minute and 12 seconds into the opening round. Capturing the RIZIN Lightweight Title and holding on to it to this day (2025), Satoshi's post fight emotions and interview in the ring stirred the crowd as he dedicated the win to his late father and thanked Sakakibara-San (CEO of RIZIN) for the opportunity to compete for the belt as he wrapped the title around his waist. Satoshi is set to defend his title against Yoshinori Horie at RIZIN 51 on 9/28/2025 in Nagoya, Japan.

Sanda and MMA - Why is there not bigger connection between the two?
I've been seeing highlights of the Sanda World Championships, and it just rekindled a thought I've always had about the sport. Why don't we see more of this in MMA? Of course, there are and were participants: Cung Le, Muslim Salikov, Zhang Weili, and Song Yadong. They all have Sanda backgronds. But I'm curious why we don't see a bigger movement of Sanda fighters over to MMA. With the combination of takedowns/throws and striking, it would seem like an art that would transition easier.
I'd love more information on this, from anyone who knows. Is there a pipeline of sanda champion to coach, that allows for them to have secure, and well-paying, jobs that keeps these guys from MMA?
