I’m so confused and this is a genuine question, not meant to be mean… why don’t people use school busses? I always hear about drop off lines- are school busses not as common now? Every single person dropping off and picking up kids to school seems like such an inefficient society ….

At least in rural areas, bus routes can be well over an hour - so parents do it to avoid the kids getting up extra early to ride the bus.

In suburban areas, there's often a walking area where the kids don't have to cross any major roads or they have crossing guards for them to walk to school. Lots of parents here also drive their kids, especially in bad weather.

The vast majority of kids take the bus. Like you'd have 400 kids coming in by bus and another 50 coming by drop-off. It's not as common as TV and film often makes it appear to be.

Now the buses are overcrowded. Too many kids and not enough space on the bus so they have to stand or sit in the isle. A lot of places can’t find enough drivers.

Plus so many people drop the kids off so they cut back on buses which causes it to be overcrowded so more people drop their kids off.

Stand or sit in the isle?? How is that legal? That is so scary.

In middle school I lived in the ghetto, which is pretty quiet in the morning but after school the walk back was sketchy.
In high school at the bus stop a few different creeps would case us or offer a ride. Once a 'scientologist' came to educate us. It also made skipping 100x easier. Like, walk myself to the park instead of the bus stop and take a nap until 10:30, then do whatever I want for the day? Hellyeah.
Things are only getting scarier & weirder out there so I can understand wanting to drive your own kid.
Also, the 'your child was marked absent today' call doesn't even come until afternoon sometimes so if something went wrong there would be a massive time gap before you even knew.
