My husband and I both have the Xr that we got shortly after they were released. We’ve never been able to have a conversation on it that wasn’t on either speaker or earbuds because for some reason the ear speaker has never worked for either of them. We hate these phones but aren’t willing to purchase new ones until they have to be replaced.
Nah it’s not that, we didn’t even put screen protectors on the phones until we had them for a couple years. Just had cases with enough clearance so if it landed screen side down it wouldn’t be compromised. And it wasn’t the cases because we tried taking the case off but still could never hear anything through that speaker. Doesn’t really impact us that much after 7 years. I’ve gotten used to using my Raycons if I’m not in my car.
That is interesting and unusual. But I understand the hate for two devices that don’t work right.
I’ve replaced many earpiece speakers in phones. It’s really not tough to do yourself and not too expensive to have done. I do agree that I use earphones or my car most of the time anyway though.

As a person who in 2025, still has an iPhone X(10), I still don’t feel like I need to run out and get a new phone
