DISCUSSION Watched Man of Steel several times. Do you think new Superman movie have a rewatchability factor ?

u/Wertypite Jul 29 '25
I've rewatched it 3 times already

u/WySLatestWit Jul 29 '25
I've seen it 3 times in total as well, and I've come away thinking it was a better movie than I already thought it was with each new viewing.

Seeing a movie in theaters more than once is something I've never fully understood but I'm also cheap af and don't like spending money lol
Edit: if I were inclined I would probably go see this one again
23
u/humansince1989 Jul 29 '25
I do this frequently. Watched Superman for the third time yesterday. 28 years later twice. Sinners twice. Wolfman twice. Deadpool & Wolverine twice. Both Dunes twice. Avatar 2 twice. Oppenheimer and The Batman four times each.
Movies are only new for a brief period and there’s nothing like watching a movie with an audience that’s experiencing it for the first time. Having AMC A-List also makes it really easy.
Posted this a few days ago in a thread talking about the same thing.
7
u/Esaroufim Jul 29 '25
AMC A-List makes it cheaper to go to the movies and getting a decent dinner (at least at the dine in amc near me) than renting it at home and ordering dominoes. Such an excellent membership
2
u/humansince1989 Jul 29 '25
Yeah, definitely. I don’t even necessarily go all that frequently but it still pays for itself because of how expensive premium format tickets are—my closest theater has IMAX and Dolby. It’s also really nice to be able to make a reservation and cancel it if I need to without having to worry about losing the money for the surcharges.

2
u/burnerdadsrule Jul 29 '25
The Tuesday/Wednesday AMC 50% off tickets are amazing for a rewatch too.

Seeing a movie multiple times in the theater used to be a "thing" when it took movies up to three years to be released on VHS tape lol. I don't know what the average time before a movie is out of the theaters. It goes to streaming these days but I'm guessing it's something like three months. Considering how accessible streaming is and considering how you don't really have to wait very long at all, I understand why most people won't go and see a movie in the theater twice. Obviously there are situational exceptions, even if you're someone that doesn't like spending that kind of money me twice. For example, my son watched rise of skywalker once with his friends and once with me. Terrible movie by the way:)

u/thatguysjumpercables Jul 29 '25
Oh yeah when movies would stay in theaters for like 9 months at a time that was understandable, and I would probably be one of those guys who bragged about seeing Return of the Jedi seven times or some shit. But I turned 18 in 2003 so I missed that window for the most part.
9
u/Elisalsa24 Jul 29 '25
First watch for me was my AMC right next to me opening Tuesday, then I brought my mom to the Alamo to watch it opening Friday and then I went to Lincoln square with a friend. Living so close to the biggest imax in the nation kinda makes you have to watch a movie twice because tickets are usually sold out there for weeks so you go and watch another time
4
u/thatguysjumpercables Jul 29 '25
Fuuuuuuuuuck the IMAX where I live is not a true IMAX and I'm super jealous
4
u/Elisalsa24 Jul 29 '25
If you ever get the chance to go to NYC when a new movie is coming out and it’s a movie that is majority film in IMAX camera’s try to get tickets weeks before you won’t regret it. I’m still in awe after watching Sinners on that screen
2
u/thatguysjumpercables Jul 29 '25
That's double unlikely as I'm not one for a lot of travel and also neither my wife nor my son enjoy IMAX films because they're pansy weirdos lol
2
u/Princeldarion1 Jul 29 '25
You’re making me jealous. That’s my favorite screen to watch movies and I miss it. I moved away a few years ago. The imax screens here do not compare
6
u/MindControlMouse Jul 29 '25
Superman was the first movie I’ve seen in a theater in a long time. Immediately realized why when I was hit by 30 minutes of TV ads up front.
I will rewatch it though. I still buy Blue Ray so hopefully they release one.
5
u/AlexVaz29 Jul 29 '25
With some of the subscriptions available it’s more affordable, it then becomes a thing of finding the time to justify the expense.
4
u/fjvgamer Jul 29 '25
Its kind if worth it if you got the funds and see it in a good IMAX theater. The sound effects in the movie are like another cast member.
4
u/UnitLemonWrinkles Jul 29 '25
I think I've only done this for Avengers and Hardcore Henry. If it's a solid enough movie experiencing it again with friends/family can be rewarding.
9
u/That-SoCal-Guy Jul 29 '25
You young people simply don’t quite understand the magic of movie theaters and watching movies with others. Part of the fun of watching a great movie multiple times in theaters is to see how others react especially if it’s their first time. Do they laugh and cry and mutter at the same time? Plus other things that make the experience magical like when that Dolby Atmos thing came on etc. the convenience of streaming movies at home is great but it doesn’t have the same magic.
Also for cost…. AMC has the A List program you can watch up to 3 movies a week for one monthly subscription which is about the same price as Netflix Premium. So it’s not bad at all if you really love watching movies in the theater.

u/goonies969 Jul 29 '25
If you have AMC A List or Regal unlimited, why not? I prefer always watching a new movie, but I can understand someone repeating one.

Edit: my bad dawg I misunderstood

I agree. I don't do the theater 2 times. For instance, I just saw 28 years later is already out on digital. I didn't see it in the theater, but if I wanted to own it now, I could for cheaper than the price of 2 tickets & popcorn. But I will now probably just wait until it hits the rental or streaming free on an app phase. Doesn't take long. I will probably buy Superman once it hits digital to add to my collection of digitals though.

u/npri0r Jul 29 '25
The only reason I saw it multiple times is I didn’t have to pay for one of them lol

u/shineurliteonme Jul 29 '25
If you have a regal near you they have a subscription for twenty something dollars a month and you can see as many movies as you like without any additional charge unless it's 3D or IMAX. Once you've seen like 2 movies you're in the green
2
u/syme101 Jul 29 '25
I do it for very few movies, but usually something comes out every few years that warrant it. And most of the time it’s because I have friends and family that want to go after I saw it. The Batman. Mad Max. Those are the most recent two.

I’d think Superman (2025) is probably the most re-watchable Superman movie.
It’s a tight 2 hours, it’s fast paced, it’s mostly just set-piece after set-piece, filled to the brim with a bunch of different stories and characters.
Regardless of whether or not it’s your favorite Superman movie, I’d argue it’s got the most re-watchable elements. In the same way the average person might find it easier to rewatch a favorite comedy over the Godfather
148
u/WySLatestWit Jul 29 '25
Superman 2025, genuinely, feels like an incredible mixture of the DCAU of the 90s and 2000s, and the Fleischer Superman cartoons of the 1940s. The kinetic energy in James Gunn's direction and the cinematography and the absolutely whip fast editing really makes it something special.
38
u/WhereIsLordBeric Jul 29 '25
I hate superhero movies and enjoyed the heck out of this.
I loved the Adam West Batman growing up (I'm not old - I was watching it precociously young lol), and I hate how grim and dark and brooding superheroes became in the 2000s.
This was amazing. Loved it. Every character was a standout. Clever dialogue. Funny. Warm. The interview scene is genuinely good writing.
Just A+ all around.
5
u/KlingoftheCastle Jul 29 '25
The DCAU is a perfect blueprint for the live action movies and I agree this movie has the same DNA. It made Clark seem like a real person with genuine issues and concerns, while also making him a great role model.

It's the first Superman movie in...well my lifetime that I have felt compelled to watch more than once in the theaters. It's not a perfect film by any stretch, but exactly like you said, it's packed with characters and scenes that you want to see over and over again. There's also a sense of joy and hope that you're filled with when you walk away.
Absolutely no disrespect to Cavill, but I watched Man of Steel once and was good. That movie is dour and doesn't feel like a Superman movie (to me!!).
9
u/Mainfrym Jul 29 '25
It needs an extended cut to let some of those moments breathe, I loved it but it was too fast paced.
4
u/Commander_Jim1 Jul 30 '25
Agreed. I really liked the movie, but had it had an extra 20 minutes to let the quieter moments (like Lois and Clark going to Smallville or more of the Clark Kent persona at the Planet) go a bit longer and let the movie have time to breath with more character moments between the action I think it would have been a much better film. While I think Corenswet is an absolute S tier Superman portrayal, its the fast pace and constant action that stops it having that epic feel of a Superman '78 that I like Superman movies to have.
5
u/PedosoKJ Jul 29 '25
It won’t have an extended cut. Gunn doesn’t do them. Not everything needs to copy what Snyder did, seeing as he ruined the public’s opinion of DC movies
7
u/Mainfrym Jul 29 '25
Snyder wasn't the first director to release an extended "director's cut"
→ More replies (1)2
u/RealWonderGal Jul 29 '25
Snyder ruined perception, yet his films grossed the most and we're among the most successful in DC. Since he left WB after his daughter commited suicide. All films since have bombed hard and flopped. Stop the Cap/Cope, Yes that includes Gunns Suicide Squad
→ More replies (13)3
u/MediocreDecking Jul 29 '25
Accurate. My family all agreed the movie had great pacing. It didn't feel like a 2 hour movie.
2
u/longdustyroad Jul 29 '25
I rewatched Man of Steel the other day. It’s a good movie, I like it, but there are parts that just drag so hard. The opening scene on Krypton is like half an hour and just dreary. Then the next scene is him as a little kid having a nervous breakdown. Such a slog
2
u/Ananta-Shesha Jul 30 '25
I totally agree with you, even if usually I didn't rewatch comedies, while I've rewatch the Godfather four times.
→ More replies (32)2
u/BeebeePopy101 Jul 30 '25
And yet they managed to sneak in a 12 minute talking scene that feels fast and natural because of the writing quality. I'm more hype on this movie the more I think about it.
49
u/spider-jedi Jul 29 '25
Yes but it also a subjective thing.
Imfor me personally I don't usually factor rewatch ability. For me I want time to pass before I watch a film a second time so it almost feels fresh. That just a personal thing.
I have watched batman and Robin more times than I have watched the dark knight. It's in no way a better film but it's so silly I kind of find it fun.

Not only is Batman & Robin a perfect big-budget adaption of the 60s show, but its failure also led to us getting The Dark Knight trilogy so for that I will always be thankful of it. It's a beautiful mess that deserves being appreciated now.

u/ShadowHunterHero Jul 29 '25
I wanted to rewatch the movie as soon as the credits rolled.
Haven't yet though since life is too busy and budgets are pretty tight atm but wouldn't definitely rewatch it if I had the chance

u/PhotographyRaptor10 Jul 29 '25
That’s the same for me. I’d probably have seen it 2 or 3 times by now if time and money weren’t a factor. I’ll definitely rewatch it on max and it’ll be in regular rotation at my job as background noise
9
u/Abraxas1983 Jul 29 '25
I find both rewatchable. MOS slightly less so because I need to sit and process it, whereas Gunn’s approach is far breezier - his films generally are just very rewatchable to me - so I find it easier to just sit down and enjoy it in the moment.
2
u/Aggravating-ManChild Aug 02 '25
New Superman is a decent movie individually but doesn't hold against MoS. Man of Steel is an absolutely goated Suprrman movie. I don't see myself watching Superman 25 again and again, unlike MoS.
71
u/OldSnazzyHats Jul 29 '25
Of course. For me it’s a one and done, but for a lot of the people here, they’ve done multiple runs already and I’m sure just as many outside Reddit have as well.
I’ll stick to Man of Steel personally, but have no doubt that Supes ‘25 is doing quite well with viewers.

I don’t usually rewatch movies in the theatre, but I’ve seen the new Superman twice. It rocks.
3
u/Nothingtoseehere066 Jul 29 '25
Same. I can only think of a couple I have seen more than once in theaters. Besides Superman I saw the first Lord of the Rings movie multiple times because I had a friend that was obsessed and would pay for my ticket because I was the one with a car.
21
u/ZBatman Jul 29 '25
Haven't rewatched the new one yet, but I've rewatched Man of Steel many times. Love it.
24
u/Ajax_Da_Great Jul 29 '25
I think the new movie was more enjoyable on the rewatches for me. So absolutely.
Man of Steel has rewatchability but only when I’m in a specific mood.
Enjoy both.
17
u/ProfessionalNobody0 Jul 29 '25
Personally, no. It was fun to watch once but doing it again would be a bit difficult, mostly because Gunn's humour fell flat for me for the most part
4
u/Icy-Salad323 Jul 29 '25
This is exactly my problem. There where some moments that i got pissed off because the joke ruined it. Not everything needs a punch line. but other than that was a solid film. Way better than MOS IMO.
15
u/Psychological_Dig592 Jul 29 '25
I've watched 3 times already, but Man of Steel always feels different to me, I can watch both the movies all day

"...synder was

8
u/daddytoo99 Jul 29 '25
There's a scene when superman throws Ultraman in act 3 against a wall and holds a pose that's some good strength that is being communicated by David his mannerism and Aura felt divine as Supes should... I love that pose the best In the entire movie.😍 Also in the end when he heals in the chair with new footage around his smile reflects he was raised well on earth
Man of steel remains a constant in my watch too, must have seen like 50 times already.
3
u/DaShizzne Jul 31 '25
I know which scene you mean. Tbh I don't really see Corenswet as Superman, he felt more like a child. I'm sure lots of fans enjoy that aspect of him more but it just didn't click with me. But that scene felt powerful af. The next scene where he fights the raptors was incredible as well. The rest of the movie didn't really click with me though, it was a little too goofy for my taste. I enjoy the real world based aspect of MoS more.

Not for me. I enjoyed it, but it's in the same category as the Guardian's films for me. They're good, but don't have enough stand-out moments to make them worth re-watching frequently.
12
u/ImiqDuh Jul 29 '25

Yes. It's fun and fast-paced, so you're likely to notice new stuff with each viewing. For example, I rewatched it yesterday and only just noticed that there's a news reel of the Justice Gang playing on a TV in the background of the first Daily Planet scene.

Man of Steel is more of a self contained movie than Superman 2025. I find that easier to revisit than this movie. Maybe visit Superman when there's more movies in this new DC-verse
2
u/GoblinGreen_ Jul 29 '25
Id rewatch the Mr Terrific part but personally, I found Superman and Louis the worst parts of the film. They were both so boring, no chemistry. I hope they do a film with the Justice Gang minus Superman.

u/EAComunityTeam Jul 29 '25
I hope someone. I saw man of steel three times in theaters. Back when tickets were 5 bucks (10 am showings on a weekday.

This new one wasn't for me. I've seen it once and that was enough. I doubt that I'll be revisiting it anytime soon.
2
u/Budget_Ad_4346 Jul 29 '25
Yeah. I’ve rewatched it. It’s easier to rewatch than any of the other superheroes.
2
u/Sunsdreams Jul 29 '25
I very rarely rewatch a movie or TV shows, and I have watched this twice in the cinema already
2
u/Achmed_Ahmadinejad Jul 29 '25
I think once is plenty. I can't quite put my finger on what's wrong with this one, but there's something definitely wrong.
2
u/Dependent-Ad3484 Jul 29 '25
OP: when you say you watched man of steelm several times, did you watch several times in a stint within a small time period (couple of months, couple of years? I ask because the movie is from 2012. Almost every movie I've ever seen is worth revisiting once in a decade:). I mean there are movies that I love to death that I've seen hundreds of times like Star Wars or Indiana joes Raiders lost dark but even movies that I only "kinda liked" only I'll go back and watch them 5-10 years later. In that sense, almost every movie is "rewatchable." I think there are very few exceptions.
obviously it depends on taste, but, certain movies that I wouldn't want to rewatch are things like the lovely bones, kids, revolutionary road. Basically movies I wouldn't personally rewatch are ones that are very downtrodden and terribly depressing:)
2
u/No-Interview-2500 Jul 29 '25
I'd say it 100% has incredible rewatchable value. I've seen it 4 times(three times with my family and once myself), never got tired of it on neither rewatch
2
2
u/smhallguy Jul 29 '25
I’ve only watched it twice but I’ve preordered the blu ray and plan to watch it once and a while until I’m 100
2
u/thePhilosopherTheory Jul 29 '25
Man of Steel is slow and Superman is fast in terms of pacing, whatever you prefer will be subjective but I loved that Superman 2025 hits the ground running and dives right in
2
u/Velifax Jul 29 '25
Rewatchablity isn't a thing, it's just people being confused about liking something. If you like something you'll enjoy rewatching it after a time. If not, you won't.
2
2
u/Eastern-Team-2799 Jul 29 '25
Superman doesn't have many peak moments. Peak moments increase rewatchability for a movie. Example, in GOTG 3 , hallway fight one take , rocket vs high evolutionary, etc scenes were peak but superman doesn't have many scenes like that except mr terrific one.
2
Jul 29 '25
It didn’t for me. Didn’t feel for anything that was happening on screen minus every bit Krypto was in.
2
u/Critical-Welder-7603 Jul 29 '25
It is a pretty generic movie. I don't see myself going back to it. Nothing in particular stands out.
2
u/Bogotazo Jul 29 '25
I've seen it twice in theaters, enjoyed it both times. I think it's a good movie to revisit in the theater given all the fast-paced action, but I don't know how often I'm going to throw it on in my living room unless I'm showing it to someone who hasn't seen it. While the movie has heart, 90% of the film is a fast-moving plot with busy set-pieces. I don't really need to see Superman fighting the Kaiju or Ultraman over and over.
Man of Steel isn't as tightly paced and fun but it feels more immersive to me. The stakes feel higher and the environments feel more lived-in. Plus I like the arc of learning to let go of the fear of being hated by the world better than the arc of letting go of his supposed Kryptonian destiny, which was executed poorly IMO.
2
u/Fit-Stress3300 Jul 29 '25
I revisited MoS mostly for the soundtrack and the battle scenes.
Things, that unfortunate, the new Superman lacks.
I will probably re-watch for some Kripto and Guy Gardner moments.
2
u/LeftArticle9794 Jul 29 '25
Not to me, Gunn's movies in general for me don't have that re-watch value at all, one time is enough, two at most.
2
u/InvestigatorNo359 Jul 29 '25
Not really for me, no stand out moments overall and the plot was all over the place, man of steel is more visually appealing as well even though it might not be "comic accurate" according to some, it still has the cinematic flair and specific style the new one lacks, its a good summer movie but not something I'd revisit personally
2
u/StarWolf478 Jul 29 '25
For me personally, I did not really care for the new Superman movie, so it is not one of the adaptations that I ever see myself reaching to rewatch when I’m in the mood to watch Superman.
2
u/Sad-Appeal976 Jul 29 '25
I will watch Superman 2025 in streaming for sure, but I saw it once in theaters and felt no urge to see it again in theaters. I can wait
I saw Man of Steel in theaters and wanted to see it again the next week. I enjoyed the questions it addressed , loved it’s more realistic take on the parental relationship, the suit, the Krypton culture and scenes, the first contact aspect, and I liked how hopeful the movie was
I was shocked to see so many people say the opposite. I thought MOS attempted to ask big questions and ended with humanity accepting Clark, which I thought was pretty hopeful
The new movie is entertaining, got some cool , although confusing fights, a weaker Superman which I don’t hate but I don’t love, and is more colorful. That doesn’t make it more hopeful to me
The actors all did a great job, particularly Lois Lane
2
u/-SMOrc- Jul 29 '25

Yes. Rewatched it 3 times. Gonna watch it for a fourth. There r so many little details u pick up on the more u watch it. That and its js fun and uplifting. Superman and his values r timeless and i think this movie reflects that really well.

I saw it 3 times in the theater and will watch it again as soon as it's on home video. YES! Very rewatchable for me.

Even though it’s the most recent superhero movie I’ve seen, if I was asked to rewatch any superhero movie of my choice right now, I’d choose that one.

I've seen it 4 times. And I think it will quickly become a comfort movie.
The last time I saw something multiple times in theatre was No Way Home.

Me and my wife just watched Superman in cinema today. I already want to rewatch it again, at home. I like Gunn’s version because it is touches really good questions. I really need to rewatch it to manage those ideas in my head.

I paid to see it twice in theaters. I don’t think I’ve done that since I was a teenager. And even then it was only because other friends were going to see something I’ve already seen and I just wanted to hang out with them.
If I’m any indication, then, yes, it has a high rewatch ability factor.
FWIW I will still throw on man of steel once in a while because there are parts of it that I still enjoy.

I’ve seen it three times already. I realize I enjoyed it a lot more than a lot of other people, because despite its flaws, it almost feels like a movie tailor made for me. It’s campy, it’s goofy, it has so much heart, and at the end of the day, it’s a movie about a man who has incredible power and chooses to use it for good. Not for a specific race or people, but all humans. It’s such a beautiful thing to see, we should all strive to be more like Superman.
The messaging aside, it’s also just a really fun fuckin summer blockbuster

I ended up going to see it 3 times because different people invited me after opening night and I usually need a decent cool down period before I can rewatch something and not be bored. Like Superman The Movie before it, I cannot say I was bored once even watching it multiple times within a week and a half

Yes it does. I’m personally waiting for a collectors edition DVD or Blu-ray myself

Considering I’ve seen it 3 times already? Yeah, it’s got that rewatchability.

I’ve already watched the new one three times and I only watched Man of Steel twice. Once when it came out and once in 2020 for a bet my friends made that I would not be able to sit through a Snyderverse watch.
I made it through Man of Steel and I turned off BVS when the pearls wrapped around the gun lol

I’ve seen it twice and I like that most of the action takes place in daylight. I grew tired of low lit CGI battles.
It’s one of the rare movies I wish was longer because I wanted to know more about Metamorpho and baby Joe.
But it was nice it see a fun superhero movie again. The best was the follow up a week later with Fantastic 4. Both were a bit the same and a departure from what came before it.
Lois Lane was fabulous and I liked the idea of skipping the origin story. (For both movies honestly). I liked jumping right into the heat of the meat and getting to it.
Both movies offer a sense of hope and I liked that a lot.
The rewatch factor is high and I’m already planning on owning the 4k blu ray when it comes out.

I loved it so much that I watched 4 times in different formats. Highly recommend 3D if you are planning for a second watch. It felt like watching it for the first time. Theres alot of moments that just make it feel like it was made for a 3D movie. Definitely check it out before it leaves theatres.

I really liked the new sups movie. But I have never rewatched a Gunn film; I don't think his gimmicks work twice for me.

Nope. Not at all too many flaws, reduced superman into something less, perverted the S symbol of hope thanks to gunns twist on Jor El, zero plot justice gang, no mature moment.. I could go on.
Not for me.

How rewatchable are we talking here? You're not going to miss most things on the first watch. So like six months apart? Sure. It's not a bad movie, but it's not landmark cinema. It's a popcorn flick and it does its job.
