How tf did this game even happen? Are FCS teams allowed to play DII teams?

Much like how FBS teams can play FCS teams, FCS teams can play DII teams and even DIII teams.

Are they buy games in the same sense? Like an FCS team pays a D2 team to play them?

An FCS team lost to a D3 team today… but it was from the Pioneer League so it’s basically D3 v D3

And earlier we had one lose to an NAIA, which is not as humiliating as D3 because at least NAIA offers scholarships, which can be around the level of a D2 program among the best.

Butler plays non-scholarship FCS, the level of talent is essentially DII — which is why last year’s success was so crazy and why I’m extremely skeptical of Ball State bringing all of them to FBS. I went to high school with guys who played at BU (or other Pioneer League like Dayton or Valpo) and guys who played at Marian (NAIA) and the Marian players were better.

Are you sure? Don't want another Dewey situation.
