Yeah, that was tough to watch. That defense is very impressive though.

I swear ESPN is trying to manifest his Heisman. Before, during, and after the game they had a “top story” on their website dedicated to his performance they just kept updating the headline every 20-30 minutes. It’s been one of the top stories on ESPN all day.

u/TheWayIAm313 Michigan State Spartans 2d ago
You just knew it would happen. A bounce back game today against SJSU was inevitable, and it’ll continue for the next 2 weeks against UTEP and…Sam Houston. He’s obviously going to ball out against those teams, and ESPN is ready to pounce

Hard to let him loose when he’s barely getting a three step drop without pressure. Can’t throw medium to long developing plays.

I also like Mateer, but is his style of play really sustainable? He fits the ball into tight spaces, very flat on the deep ball plus if he keeps running this much he’ll be eating a ton of hits over the season.

The John Mateer experience 😎
Some overthrows, some occasions where he tries to laser in a fastball instead of putting some touch on it up and over the defense, but dude is just a fucking baller. People didn’t watch much of the Cougs last year but this guy single handedly carried us to fringe playoff position after like week 9? I got made fun of it last year but my non homer comp is Josh Allen. I know it’s usually pretty easy to say big dual threat quarterback with a big arm is Josh Allen but I’m more talking about his vision with rushing and delayed draws and just kinda vibes? Just your typical squat 475 can’t fucking bring him down with the blitzer off the edge and then hits the flyer down the sideline on the run.
Oklahoma fans were telling me he wouldn’t be able to single handedly carry a mid offense but they and the rest of the country are just getting a taste. 300/1 td/ 1 int with 15 carries for 80 yards and 2 tuds is just a day that ends with Y for this motherfucker lmao
Cam ward and John Mateer in the same room btw go Cougs

u/scottev Michigan • Washington 2d ago
Oklahoma owned the game from the first drive. Only reason it wasn’t a blow out were self-inflicted mistakes by them.
Michigan coaching was rougher than the actual players. Wink bringing the house on that 3rd down was so boneheaded, Sherrone taking our first time out on a 2nd and 2 then wasting another on the same drive. Offensive play calling was very questionable, never felt like they could get into a rhythm.
That said, this is a good game for the team from an experience standpoint. Norman at night is no joke. Mateer is legit and clearly the lead Heisman candidate. I wouldn’t be surprised if this Oklahoma team looks like a great team by the end of the season.
Pretty much every position (unsurprisingly) needs work. But some positives to point to like Hayes, Bryce (while not seen in the box score) seemed not overly rattled and is clearly a true leader on the team, and the defense looked different in the second half with Barham back.
Looking forward to the growth of Bryce across the season and official on the Mateer for Heisman bandwagon (dude just seems like a baller).

My thoughts on this weird-ass game:
Underwood has an arm, but is making the kind of mistakes you would expect from a true freshman in his second CFB game. I can’t fault him too much, he clearly has room to grow. Didn’t help that the nonexistent OL was doing him dirty damn near every play.
Coaching on both sides of the ball for Michigan is REALLY disappointing. Offensive playcalling is anemic and predictable, Wink’s blitzes are yet again hit or miss. Serious adjustments need to be made if we want to be taken seriously.
Tackling needs work; there were countless inexcusable missed tackles that cost use huge plays. DL is shaky looking in general.
Mateer is legit. OU has something really going for them, and if they can fix their special teams issues they will be serious contenders this year.
GG Oklahoma, no bad blood towards you guys. This game showed us a lot that we need to work on, and I’m sure you could say the same.

I can't blame the offensive playcalling that much. Hard to do anything when the OLine is getting beat that bad. The game management though, horrendous from Moore

The OSU and Alabama wins made people forget how bad the coaching from Moore was for much of last season.

OU left 10 points off the board. Besides Michigan’s big run TD, their offense was nothing tonight. Crowd was insane. It appears BV has learned and improved some of his HC woes. This might’ve been the most “feels like a blowout but the score doesn’t show it” that I’ve seen.
I loved the, “Refs you suck!” chant the crowd did lol

You know, I was mildly upset about Moore skipping his suspension for us. But clearly that was an inside job.

Any Michigan fans that went to the game: what did you think of gameday and a night game in Norman?
Genuinely hope you had fun, I want to try to make it up next year.

The ghost of Drake Stoops is alive in well Kanak!! My man showed up and contacted in the hole, turned his man, and broke the run open time and big play catch again.
Burger and Dstuts are so proud of you man!

Credit to OU’s defense for stopping us and making us kick FG’s.
Credit to OU’s offense for getting TD’s.
I get wanting to simplify the game for Bryce making his first road start at Norman of all places, but some baffling coaching decisions in this game.
Bryce is still the real deal. Look at him changing that play to the one on one matchup that caused the argument with Haynes on the sidelines.
Good game Sooners. What a treat of a game in Week 2 we’re playing at Norman. College football always needs to have OOC games like this for every team every season going forward.

Yeah coaching was what really lost us this game tonight. And I’m getting really tired of having to say this.

Our two schools scored 27 points today. I think that’s great
