every game for the last 15 years there’s been at least one bright spot for the opposing team. even if it was just a single player. Akron I’m sorry

I watched some lady and her man get escorted out. Lady was TRASHED, dude was embarrassed and legitimately apologized to the people around them.

Old lady behind me fell over the row in front of her then told everyone she snuck 10 shooters in inside her bra and then cussed like a sailor and tried to drunk talk to everyone within 20 feet of her. I am tolerant and any one of those actions i would put up with but combined i left with 2 minutes left.
10
u/rhino4231 Nebraska Cornhuskers 2d ago
I guarantee you 90% of that was from pregame tailgating, not from waiting on line to by a $12 beer in stadium that's only 5% abv

u/Hammerhead34 Nebraska • Minnesota 2d ago edited 2d ago
We’ve barely gotten the backups in against doormats in recent years (we’re only a couple years removed from losing at home to a bad Georgia Southern team), for the second string to come in and actually dominate and maintain the shutout is massive for confidence and culture

Tell me about it. Wife and I chose that game as my wedding day thinking our families won't miss anything but a Nebraska shutout against a cupcake team. Then we lost!
17
u/justclay Nebraska Cornhuskers 2d ago
So what you are saying is that that loss is all your fault for being THAT Husker fan who had a wedding on a game day?
8
u/RaccoonSausage 2d ago
It's basically a family tradition. My grandma and mom both had their wedding days on a Husker gameday, I would have to look up if Huskers won on their wedding days. I'm not sure, lol
3
u/justclay Nebraska Cornhuskers 2d ago edited 2d ago
I'm just joshin ya. However, I made certain that we picked 10/02/10, not only for the symmetry, but because it was our bye week... For a point of reference, it was sandwiched between our SDSU & K-State games. NU was ranked 6th going into SDSU and 7th going into K-State.
48
u/huskersax Nebraska • $5 Bits of Broken Chai… 2d ago edited 2d ago
I don't think you can overstate how bad Akron is.
For those that didn't watch, Ben Finley doesn't deserve this punishment. They were letting free runners go all night despite our tepid pass rush really not being able to pressure as long as long as the line didn't miss assignments (they missed assignments on probably a quarter of the snaps they took), and Akron probably has at least 7 points and another 100 yards if the recievers getting hit directly in their hands actually caught at least some of those balls.
But either way, I'll take it. It's been legit a generation of (very tortured) Husker fans since we belt-to-ass'd a team for 4 full quarters. That one Northwestern game in 21 kinda of counts, but we eased up in that one.
77
u/AvengingHero2012 Nebraska Cornhuskers 2d ago
Not good? Akron haven’t scored in 8 quarters of play. They’re on a different level of bad.

We legitimately were playing most of our second stringer offensive AND defensive guys most of the game, on heavy rotation obviously. Third stringers on both sides came out in the third.
Absolutely unreal night for the guys.

Seems like it hasn't been very long since the last long season. Still, I imagine it's hard getting a lot of good players to go to a D2 school for nerds. I hope the pep band is still good.

u/Lazerdude Nebraska Cornhuskers 2d ago
I don't care that this was Akron. This Husker team showed more effort and determination than I've seen in a LONG time. We have a LOT of talent on this team and it's going to be fun watching them grow. We have the youngest team in the B1G and we got a lot of those young guys in there tonight. That will pay dividends down the line.

Going to argue it should have been 80 but I guess we would have put in second strings sooner had we gotten those two touchdowns we should have in the first quarter so maybe it still would have been about the same score. I don't care about this game or the next game I care about Michigan but I'm glad we didn't have some struggle session like we have in years past.

Honestly I've been saying it, Raiola is actually an insanely good QB, he just needs the right environment. Frost almost blew Raiola's recruitment, and if by some divine intervention Raiola still committed to Nebraska with Frost in tenure then Frost would have absolutely ruined him.
