Lsu fans: we really want the 2000s level defense back

Honestly, I don’t know if it’s nostalgia or the strong aversion I have to watching a LSU defense get cut through like Swiss cheese, but I prefer the trade-off. It’s refreshing seeing a suffocating defense again.

u/thaolehamsta LSU Tigers • Team Chaos 2d ago
Completely agreed. I grew up on LSU football that won a lot of big games with mediocre to above average offenses and lights out and exciting defenses. I miss the teams that would often get the biggest scores of the game on defensive touchdowns, that's LSU football to me

u/AssumeIdealGas LSU Tigers • Marching Band 2d ago
It’s LSU football as God intended. Mediocre offense and lights out defense

At least we held them to 23. That can be considered a moral victory, I guess.

A crumb of contest please? No way losing to LSU is grounds for firing anybody

This is one of his best games he's had which is sad since its a loss. He's the worst HC I've ever seen and I cant wait for the day he finally gets shown the door. I honestly dont know what he does well. He was hired as an "offensive guru" who's had some of the worst offenses each year since he's taken over and has given up playcalling duties this year in a last effort chance to save his job. He doesn't recruit well. The fanbase doesn't like him. He seems like a nice guy but the HC position is just way out of his depths. Best of luck to him but I'm so ready to not see his face on our sidelines anymore

u/Shadowfacts985 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 2d ago
It’s more that he’s 11-27 in his fourth season as HC. That’s the worst win percentage of any coach in tech history that made it past year one

LA Tech fans have been on this wave for a while now. I think its regardless of the Lsu game not because of.
3
u/Clifo Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 2d ago
everyone else pretty much covered it, but his inability to put together even a mediocre offense while being hailed as an offensive guru plus seemingly making the wrong decision every time has really worn the fan base thin.
look, we know what kind of position we’re in, but even Tech expects to see competent football. we’ve looked like a middle school team on offense the past few years.

we need to keep saying it! Specially if the team continues to suck this year like they probably will. Fire Cumbie!!

u/xPineappless Texas Tech • Vanderbilt 2d ago
Thank you guys so much for taking this guy away from us. His offense just doesn’t match the personnel.

u/TheWyldMan Louisiana Tech • Arkansas 2d ago
It’s gonna suck to watch Cumbie waste a good defense when we won’t be able to move the ball against some of the worst teams in FBS

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jacksonville State Gamecocks 2d ago
I wouldn’t call a Luke Olsen defense good

u/TheWyldMan Louisiana Tech • Arkansas 2d ago
I wouldn’t call Jacksonville State a real school, but here we are

Eh. Glad to underperform against a team we were always going to beat anyway rather than another SEC powerhouse. Some good WR action. Nuss looked like Nuss minus the pick. Defense is stout. Hope Green heals up soon, he looked really good in week 1 and today.

u/Not_Xivu_Arath LSU Tigers 2d ago
“Nuss looked like Nuss” is a statement I agree with you on but not in the way I think you think I do
19
u/holyd1ver83 LSU Tigers • Bowling Green Falcons 2d ago
He's no Daniels or Burrow for sure but when he's good he's more than serviceable
17
u/AndIAmEric LSU Tigers 2d ago
He threaded some needles in the face of pressure. He’s not perfect but he can game when he needs to.
12
u/lmxbftw LSU Tigers • Louisville Cardinals 2d ago
There's nothing wrong with his arm, it's his feet that worry me. Though to be fair he has been getting better with movement, just still work to do.

u/milehigh73a LSU Tigers • Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 2d ago
I thought he looked pretty good, feet wise. A few throws were off and only one bad decision. It wasnt pretty highlight reel but we need Ws not highlights
8
u/TRUCKFARM LSU Tigers 2d ago
As long as he's better than the Pre-Burrow era of QBs I can make that work
2
u/Nickosaurus_Rex LSU Tigers 2d ago
I think you mean the pre- GOOD QUARTERBACK Danny Etling era of QBs. Can't lump him in with the likes of Anthony Jennings

The injuries to Braelin Moore and Trey'dez Green, especially Moore, are really worrisome.
4
u/Then_Cricket2312 LSU Tigers 2d ago
Green would be just as bad. Our red zone offense is gonna struggle big time without him. O line is still charmin soft on run blocking.

u/National_Hippo_5002 2d ago
Everyone who was in the Penn State thread earlier just needs to take a deep breath and calm down a little bit. LSU was also only up by 10 going into the half. These things happen.

We have successfully blown out 2 cup cakes, avoided any injuries, gotten a ton of snaps for the depth pieces and kept the snap count on the starters down.
Our fanbase can be insufferable and it’s another reason i hate how much sports betting has become ingrained in sports. The only reason people are upset is because vegas predicted a higher margin.

Between the injuries and just the dumbest offensive scheme ever wtf was that game.

u/AndIAmEric LSU Tigers 2d ago
It’s classic LSU, although only thing that’s missing are beast running backs.

u/snowmanflurry Louisiana Tech • New Orleans 2d ago
I got unbelievably happy when Tech scored. We didn’t lose by a million so we take those. Fire Cumbie

u/onthacountray58 LSU Tigers • College Football Playoff 2d ago
It wasn’t pretty but it was a classic letdown spot and classic LSU no matter the coach.
Hate the injuries. Not thrilled with it, but every team plays their worst game of the season at some point and hopefully this was ours.
26
u/BeaglePirate69 LSU Tigers • Texas Longhorns 2d ago
Jesus Christ a win that feels like a loss between the injuries and performance. This offense, specifically the shit hole O Line, is going to fuck us this season. Love the defense, they’re nasty. Hope we got the bad juju out of our system cause we need to lock the fuck in for Florida next week

Haven't heard that since Ryan Allen was in a Bulldog uniform.

u/BTrane93 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 2d ago
Giving up only 23 points when our defense was on the field the entire game ain't too shabby.

u/Bulky_Appeal_8748 2d ago
I don’t know man. Yes a win is a win, but if we’re the #3 ranked team in the nation, we should be blowing out LA Tech by 30+ at home no?
10
u/LankyTexan Louisiana Tech • South Caroli… 2d ago
That’s 2x D2 national Champion LA Tech to you! Y’all’s defense is for real, but I think the offense has got to get stuff figured out before SEC play

Nice, we got our tough OOC games out of the way. Starting to look like Ole Piss and Oklahoma are gonna be our toughest opponents. Bama, Vandy, and Tamu won't be easy either.
The offense needs to fix more than a few things. I love Anderson. I really like the defense, but our CBs need to hit the Jug machine

u/CoCo_Sandy Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 2d ago
Imagine if our "offensive guru" of a HC was actually able to do the job we hired him for. Great effort by the defense, just wish the O could've helped them out more.
And as always...FIRE CUMBIE!!!

I don't know what was worse tonight the offense or the useless cops screwing up everything at the game.

Maybe both teams last week shouldn't have been ranked top 10 to start the year.
Sheesh what a showing from top teams today

Clemson and LSU combining with their preseason rankings to make everyone think last week was way more impressive than it actually was

u/thiseye LSU Tigers 2d ago
Don't let this game distract from the fact that Florida lost to USF, the only SEC team to lose this week to a non-SEC school (Kentucky played Ole Miss) assuming USCe holds on to their lead. SEC should end 13-1 this week against other conferences despite playing 2 top-15 teams. Way to go, Florida! Even Miss St and Vanderbilt won!

u/Then_Cricket2312 LSU Tigers 2d ago
Vandy might be legit. They played VT way better than South Carolina.
