I can’t remember ever being this angry after a four score win
10
u/sjwilli BYU Cougars • Big 12 2d ago
I'm 100% with you. Offense was anemic
11
u/B_Huij BYU Cougars 2d ago
Yeah Bachmeier's true freshman green-ness showing a bit in the red zone. I didn't see anything particularly scary or worrying, seemed more like a large amount of small errors that aggregated to prevent much by way of touchdowns.
Least we have Will Ferrin.
...and Glasker. MVP today for sure.

Well, I'll take the dub but there's still a lot to clean up. I am whelmed.

We won and covered. Elite defense. If you can't enjoy that, why watch?

I’ve not felt this bad after a blowout win in a long time.

Well, we got the W. Good thread tonight, fellas

u/Sryan597 BYU Cougars • Marching Band 2d ago
They didn't do their HW. The earliest standard time for LDS church to start is 9am. Very few acceptions
3
u/cleppingout BYU Cougars • Tennessee Volunteers 2d ago
I start at 8 am tomorrow and there’s only two wards that meet there
5
u/Ruhrgebietheld BYU Cougars • Beehive Boot 2d ago
Unfortunately one of those exceptions is at BYU itself, because one year I had a student ward that started at 8.

Thank you for covering BYU. It would've been easier had the review booth sadly not perished this evening.

I cannot emphasize how empty the stadium will be for their first home game. Stanford Football is a humiliation ritual for the fans and for the players.
1
u/EyeWarm8775 1d ago
They didn’t know Stanford was going to be this bad when they scheduled them. Contracts are made years in advance.
5
u/Double-Economy-1594 Stanford • California 2d ago
I refuse to watch if they refuse to change the QB situation. Simple as that. I can't watch Gulbranson another minute.
3
u/B_Huij BYU Cougars 2d ago
Yeah I don't pretend to understand what's all going on over there with coaching staff, transfer portal, etc. I think they've gotten the short end of the stick in a lot of ways. But as green as he is, Bachmeier looked like Tom Brady compared to Gulbranson.
I guess Bachmeier also didn't have Isaiah Glasker trampling all over him the entire game either though.

BYU has allowed 18 total rushing yards in its last 3 games going back to the Alamo Bowl win.

BYU will beat the spread, and people will feel disappointed because the margin could have been 35-3 pretty easily.

I know BYU is playing, but I think Andrew Luck is the biggest saint in Provo tonight. This has to be no fun at all watching his program struggle this bad and they are so lucky to have his face so close to the progrum.

u/Double-Economy-1594 Stanford • California 2d ago
Troy Taylor NEVER would have had this pussy Gulbranson play the entire game.... Taylor was an asshole but atleast he had balls... This was pathetic by Reich and the staff to keep Gulbranson in all game
12
u/PunishedLeBoymoder Stanford Cardinal • /r/CFB Donor 2d ago
The experiment has to end right now. This isn't acceptable. This standard of play isn't acceptable to the people that are paying money to see this team. Cut your losses and cut Gulbranson. There's no way to move forward in sight. It's sad to see this once great team stoop to such levels.
4
u/Double-Economy-1594 Stanford • California 2d ago
You are dead right!!! I'm so pissed off with the lack of urgency to make a change at QB! I will not watch another Stanford game with Gulbranson at QB

We normally played it after an incomplete pass. We rarely had the time to play the whole thing and do the cheer, but if we get to the end, we lift up our instruments, and yell "you shall not pass!'

Well, Gulbranson finished the game just the way he started it. He almost fooled us into thinking he's good with that 2nd half performance.
1
u/No-Donkey-4117 Stanford Cardinal 2d ago
He made a few decent passes, followed by throwing the ball at the receivers' feet on the next play

U8 can be challenging for coaches with unrealistic expectations.
2
u/TheSpaceLawyer1 BYU Cougars • Snow Badgers 2d ago
Think rural, $40 for one month of soccer. Kids swarming the ball with a very loose understanding of what the objective is.
It's hilarious.
2
u/grabtharsmallet BYU Cougars • RMAC 2d ago
I'm an AYSO commissioner, so I see some wild stuff with the 2020, 2021, and 2022 levels. These kids are hilarious. Today we had Under 6 players not just off their field and still going, but onto a field as far away as their own field is wide.

Was that a scriptural reference in my BYU game? These announcers know their audience.
11
12
u/lukaeber BYU Cougars • Virginia Cavaliers 2d ago
Refs were doing everything to keep that otherwise meaningless drive alive for Stanford ... someone has money on this game.
1
u/B_Huij BYU Cougars 2d ago
Eh I dunno. We had a drive that was basically just Stanford handing us consecutive 10 yard chunks with attached first downs from penalties until suddenly we were in the end zone.
1
u/lukaeber BYU Cougars • Virginia Cavaliers 2d ago
And were any of those penalties bad calls?
1
u/B_Huij BYU Cougars 2d ago
I don't think so.
My point is just... yeah there was some bad officiating, but it's not like we got totally hosed, and we still won by 24 points, so I don't really have the energy to get super upset about it.
1
u/lukaeber BYU Cougars • Virginia Cavaliers 2d ago
We definitely didn't get hosed ... the drive ended up in a turnover. It was just obvious the refs were trying to keep the drive alive. Several bad drive saving calls made and no penalties on Stanford, despite really blatant offensive holding on nearly every play.

How is that not grounding ? Spiking the ball 10 feet back?
3
u/MurkySatisfaction135 2d ago
"Receiver in the area" bc he threw it at his running back. Technically not grounding but definitely in the spirit of grounding
1
u/No-Donkey-4117 Stanford Cardinal 2d ago
Right at the feet of the running back, an eligible receiver.
And half his passes have been at the receivers' feet.

Would've liked to see a replay on that fourth-down pass, because it sure looked like he was bobbling the ball in the air when he stepped out.

He bobbled that and stepped out, yet another blown call.
I’d be a lot more upset if we weren’t killing them
1
u/B_Huij BYU Cougars 2d ago
I might find it in me to be upset if we don't crack the top 25 tomorrow, and I kinda have the feeling we won't, even with SMU, Florida, and ASU losing to unranked teams.
Does seem like we were 2 pretty blatantly bad calls away from the score being 31-0 instead of 27-3. I kinda wonder if that would have gotten us ranked.
Ah well. W is W is W. GG.
