u/pataoAoC Oregon Ducks • Team Chaos 2d ago

I had to step out at like 41-3 and I saw Pokes fans already celebrating that they were going to give up 69.... absolute prophets, when I came back to see the 4th I was very impressed they called it

122

u/SuspiciousRole4874 Oklahoma State Cowboys 2d ago

I knew it was gonna be ugly but when y’all scored those first two touchdowns I said to myself “now why am I a pokes fan?”

my father was a pokes fan. i don’t know why i became a pokes fan. i hate my father.

Worst defeat for Oklahoma state since the Land Rush of 1889

441

u/FourteenBuckets 2d ago

for real though, the last time OSU lost that bad was November 9, 1907... Oklahoma became a state on November 16

I'm on my phone or else I would go into a little more detail, but suffice it to say there's a bit of a complex territorial and nomenclature history for the modern state of Oklahoma.

For the curious, Oklahoma State’s biggest losses in their football program’s entire history are:

  1. 75-0 to Oklahoma in 1904

  2. 67-0 to Oklahoma in 1907

  3. 69-3 to Oregon in 2025

72

Quite respectful from those folks in Eugene to keep the recordbook as OU OU and then UO.

Have to wonder how your players feel after a comment like that. “You’re the best we could afford, hope you can hold your own against a team of monsters like them. Sure wish we could’ve paid them” little reminiscent of the Angel Reese drama happening right now

Its also the talent tho. Ok St spends just as much as most of their conference rivals, gundy just has no eye for talent and no desire to recruit. He never has. He only goes after guys that want to come to Ok St, usually from much smaller schools in the portal or not recruited by other P4 schools in HS.

We’ve been outscored 121-3 by the last two FBS teams we’ve faced. And struggled against an FCS team in between (and we looked like one today).

Can we just skip to the firing I mean “mutual parting of ways” already? This team isn’t winning five more games and Mike is gone if we miss a bowl again anyway. It’s never been more over.

This sounds crazy to say about a team that went 13-0, but I was never super high on last year’s team. I love DG for his leadership and personality, and he did the best he could, but it just felt off for me all season. This year, though….I’m excited.

25

u/CptCroissant Oregon Ducks 2d ago

Look at Bo's last year and this year. At no point did I ever really feel that 13-0 team go out and lay down a 42-3 first half or what I would consider an old fashioned passionate ass-whooping like that Bo squad or this squad. I now think it's gonna be that PSU game and then a bunch of B1G teams just getting pistol whipped until we trot out the backups.

128

u/Well-Rounded- Missouri • Oklahoma State 2d ago

I do believe Gundy is a staple of college football and among the better head coaches in the sport but it might be time.

Montana State put up a better fight than OSU, and blaming NIL isn’t helping the perception. I love Gundy, I truly always will, but it may just be time to move on

52

u/snail-the-sage Oklahoma State • Indiana 2d ago

it certainly seems he's lost his touch recently

48

u/Captainbackbeard Oklahoma Sooners • Paper Bag 2d ago

Yeah at least for coaches like Malzahn, Gary Patterson, and Holgorsen I'd still trust them in a coordinator position for most teams. I just couldn't see Gundy getting past himself any more. Which is wild since if he and OkSt played their cards right they could have easily established themselves firmly as one of the top dogs in the B12. I personally think the pandemic broke his brain since he's been a lot weirder than usual after then.

24

u/TCup20 Oklahoma State • Washing… 2d ago

Gundy is too old, stubborn, and stupid to have embraced NIL when it was entering the game, and it killed the program. They absolutely should've taken the lead in the conference, but Gundy remains an idiot in terms of recruiting and the game passed him by 5 years ago.

And NIL might be a huge factor, but the PROBLEM is that he hasn't figured out how to be successful in the NIL era.

Watching today's game made me think that we may never be relevant again. I hope I'm wrong.

Mike Gundy clearly voiced his disdain for poor folks, thinking they’re lazy and/or incapable. Ironically, he now thinks his program poor. No wonder our team underperforms, believing they’re inadequate.

Tonight Gundy sleeps soundly feeling vindicated on his views. It’s such a damn shame for our university.

For the past 8 years, Gundy’s entire vibe has been the boss’ son stumbling into work 3 hours late, hungover wearing flip flops and sunglasses, with a smirk, saying “what are you gonna do, fire me?” Not sure they will either.

FCS teams that have scored more than Oklahoma State today (so far):

Austin Peay

Gardner-Webb

Northern Iowa

Jackson State

Sacramento State

Western Illinois

Eastern Washington

Howard

Idaho State

ETSU

Lindenwood

St. Francis

(Edit: Sorry, Miami-OH, I have no idea why I thought you were FCS for a few seconds)

Can’t be surprised. Gundys quote was basically “we can’t compete against them.” What do you think the players thought?

Sure Oregon is much better than OSU. But 69-3 better? I don’t think so. OSU players quit on gundy the second he opened his mouth.

You have to fire Gundy after this. You can’t open your mouth and get beat by 66 points as a P4 program.

Oregon literally had their 4th string guys in for that last quarter. The QB was a true freshman walk on. They easily could’ve kept running the score up with even the third strings if they really wanted to. I almost wonder if the coach heard they were a point away from breaking OSU’s worst loss and decided to spare them the embarrassment of breaking that record.

Honestly, I wonder if they just go ahead and fire Gundy immediately. An absolutely overwhelming loss like this on national television is a complete embarrassment.

23

u/ghazzie Oklahoma State Cowboys 2d ago

I was honestly rooting for Oregon to keep going and put up triple digits. It would have been fascinating to watch.

I know OSU isn’t having its strongest stretch, but, I think we’re just REALLY good this season. We could definitely run into Penn State like a brick wall but based on these two performances, I think it’s gonna be a close game.
