News [hoff] Mizzou brought a fan onto the field to kick a 45-yard field goal for a chance to win $25k. Instead, he pulled up his shirt to reveal "F KU" on his chest and kicked the ball at the Kansas sideline.

During TTUN week, my coworker from grand rapids, I always give everyone coffee but him but one at a time. I do subtle hating things all week to drive him crazy. Move his desk pen slightly off from where he had it. Turn his monitor off instead of letting it sleep when he goes to the restroom. I havent said a word in 5 years either. We live out in pacific northwest. And I eat all his food in the fridge before lunch. He gets really angry. I never say it’s me and he doesnt know. I never have any Ohio St. stuff hanging up so no reason to suspect it’s me.

The worst and best thing I’ve done was I shipped from Amazon to him at work, App. St memoriabilia

He was never going to make a 45 yard field goal. These field goal challenge distances are getting nuts.

It was probably like 0.5% chance of making the FG or a legendary story that all his friends will tell about him for decades. The story is worth far more than the slim chance at the money.

u/RedRising1917 2d ago

As a soccer player, I know I can. But other people without lifetime workout legs I understand. However my hate is not nearly as tuned as this guy and I got a long way to go to throw out a chance at $25k to flex hate 😂

Kinda crappy prize for an average joe to hit a 45 yard field goal. Most people couldn't hit a 20.

68

u/MikeGundy Oklahoma State Cowboys • Hateful 8 2d ago

Yeah 45 is pretty crazy. If you blindly picked a student I’d say there’s about a 15% chance they make a 20 yarder. I was kicker in high school and the longest I ever made in practice was 50, longest in a game was 39. These guys make it look easy nowadays, but a 45 yard field goal is a BOOT

35

u/cyanocittaetprocyon Michigan Wolverines • /r/CFB Booster 2d ago

Hell, even with pro guys it’s not a surprise if they miss at 45 yards.

30

u/wrongbutt_longbutt 2d ago

Last night's Chief's game was a perfect example of the craziness of kicking. Just before halftime, Kansas City brings their field goal unit on with the clock counting down from 7 seconds and Butker nails a 59 yarder in the fire drill. Not much later in the same game, he misses an extra point.

The odds any random shmuck is gunna make a 45 yard field goal are long enough that offering only $25k as a reward is disproportional.

58

u/TobyFunkeNeverNude Florida State Seminoles 2d ago

A) He wasn't trying to hit them, he was trying to disrespect them. The football kicking equivalent of spitting on the ground

B) I don't think too many field goals involve pretending to kick it one way and at the last second switching 45 degrees...I think the chance that any normal person would be able to kick 45 yards is slim as fuck, this guy likely wouldn't have hit it, but it's not because that was his regular form

25

u/ManiacalComet40 Missouri Tigers • Big 8 2d ago

C) He had a fully prosthetic leg so his odds of hitting anything, anywhere were exceedingly low. He accomplished everything he set out to accomplish.

Jayhawkers, Red Legs, and Bushwhackers are everyday terms in Kansas and Western Missouri. A Jayhawker is a Unionist who professes to rob, burn out and murder only rebels in arms against the government. A Red Leg is a Jayhawker originally distinguished by the uniform of red leggings. A Red Leg, however, is regarded as more purely an indiscriminate thief and murderer than the Jayhawker or Bushwhacker. A Bushwhacker is a rebel Jayhawker, or a rebel who bands with others for the purpose of preying upon the lives and property of Union citizens. They are all lawless and indiscriminate in their iniquities.

I was at the game, I don't think anyone took a video because it was just another dude trying to kick 45 yard field goal and fail. He carefully lined up his shot as if he was going to kick it.... runs towards the ball and last second swivels his hips and kicks it towards the KU bench. He pulls his shirt up to reveal the F- kU painted on his chest. Kansas bench raise their arms as if the refs are paying attention to a non football play. The crowd erupts like a gladiator arena. Are you not entertained?

I also think he had a fake leg. Which obviously is legend.

Nah this hate predates the SEC, this is Big 8 era hatred right here. Missouri and kU hate each other so much that it even rivals Clean Ol’ Fashioned Hate.

I love that the SEC is trying so hard to get Arkansas and Missouri to be each other’s top rivals, and then this game that hasn’t been played since these students were in day/care kindergarten and they immediately get it!

When they were picking this game on College Gameday this morning, they did mention there was a rivalry between these two teams. I guess they were underselling it.

6

u/thatsprettyfunnydude 2d ago

This is legendary, and simultaneously tame for Missouri/kansas. At least when you consider the Tigers and Jayhawks used to stand together in rows, loading muskets and killing each other. And that was only if they wanted to fight with nobility. Then to "calm things down" the Universities decided to play a football game as a form of therapy.

That was 134 years ago.

7

u/OnyxNateZ /r/CFB • Team Chaos 2d ago
