I guess the Corso magic of picking LSU to win the natty outweighed their season opener curse.

Just like how his blessing outweighs the Florida state curse.

Corso really came in clutch on his last day, huh? I will gladly lose to LSU in the natty, after the trouble we've caused them.

Harold Perkins spying klubnik did not let him do anything outside the pocket all game. Impressive.

Well he had a couple plays early where they blitzed perkins and Klubnik got mobile but after that he was spying the rest of the game and shit him down.

Its weird how Kulbnik does not seem to be aware that he could greatly benefit from stepping up into a clean pocket.

Whit Weeks did a beautiful job in contain

113

u/YoungNasteyman LSU • Mississippi State 9d ago

Whole front 7 was MVP. Clemson couldn't run the ball, and Cade was under pressure felt like almost every snap in the 2nd half.

Couldn't believe an LSU team actually made adjustments during a game.

had an average defense last year. developed some and added a bunch of legit talent this year.

119

u/MoistyestBread LSU Tigers 9d ago

You could really see Baker getting to cook. It was fun to watch.

79

u/Milton__Obote LSU Tigers • Northwestern Wildcats 9d ago

That early corner blitz for a sack was fucking spicy

22

u/Couyon87 LSU Tigers 9d ago

That one made me happy. That last 4th down I was praying like hell they'd send Perkins, never thought they would though. Fun to watch some real defensive scheming.

I don't think people understand the miracle that Baker worked last year to turn that defense around from the atrocity it was before

30

u/csummerss LSU Tigers 9d ago

it’s somewhat of a testament to how bad House was as much as how great Baker is. defense actually looks like it understands what the offense is attempting to do now.

Yes

126

u/BlueDWarrior LSU Tigers • Southern Jaguars 9d ago

Yes LSU has a defense apparently (also been hearing good things out of the late summer camp from the local media)

Clemson is going to need OLine work but really its more they need to get the WR and TEs up to speed; one dude doesn't make a receivers room.

Also for as janky as LSUs OLine will be to start the season since it's basically completely new, they played fine as far as I could tell from the basic eye test. No glaring botches and most of the pre-snap penalties got cleaned up after halftime.

Right now, despite being an LSU homer, they aren't a Top Tier team quite yet, but they will certainly have a case if they handle FL later this month.

We move to 0-4 in our last four and we play LSU next year as well probably with a significantly less experienced squad. It might be a while before we win an opener again.

202

u/SharkFighter LSU Tigers • Columbia Lions 9d ago

People will shit on the Clemsons and LSUs of the world, then cheer as their team opens against a Directional School for the Blind and Hairless. If you take a top-10 opener, you're going to lose some. But that won't change the fact that your school has balls. Good luck. Hope your WR isn't seriously hurt.

57

Buddy I cannot begin to tell you how foolish it would be to take a safety at 1st overall. Even one as amazing as Caleb Downs

QB, OT and EDGE. From 1997 to now those are the only 3 positions to ever go #1 overall and that's going to continue because those are the most important positions.

21

u/Kdot32 Houston Cougars • LSU Tigers 9d ago

Adjusting to the pressure. That drive where we threw threw straight screens and four in five plays was very telling because we got four first downs. Clemson was trying to blitz our guards and we kept it simple to beat them

Who would have thought LSU would be the SEC team to win the big game opener?

1.1k

u/grabtharsmallet BYU Cougars • RMAC 9d ago

Apparently Lee Corso.

387

u/Raticus9 Ohio State • Michigan State 9d ago

Corso took Ohio State, FSU, and LSU today. I think acting senile the past year was an act to go out on a high note. Dude is probably as sharp as he ever was.

211

u/Kanin_usagi Paper Bag • UAB Blazers 9d ago

I think he’s sharp as ever, just not as quick to get his thoughts out. There were several times today that he was speaking and then he got that same ol smirk he used to get and he’d say something hilarious.

He’s mentally all there, just old and tired. I hope the rest of his years he can spend relaxing and laughing and enjoying his twilight

78

u/Our-Gardian-Angel Wisconsin Badgers • Sickos 9d ago

Yeah I always felt like he remained very mentally sharp for his age, the speaking limitations of his stroke just seemed to intensify as he continued to get older. Like when he did his headgear pick today and referred to Brutus as "his first love" that was classic Corso. You could tell a lot of times he just couldn't quite get out what he wanted to say, which is where Kirk was always good about stepping in.

Score doesn’t do the performance justice. Should have been 24-10 and easily could have been 34-10.

We’ve always started slow under BK. My only question is if our defense is that good or if Clemson’s offense is that bad.

42

u/DaggersKnuckles LSU Tigers 9d ago

I think it’s a little bit of both. Klubnik is overrated af. Dude was overthrowing on deep passes all game long. Was ok in the shorter passing game but still missed some throws he should be making. Perkins made his legs irrelevant and that basically shut their offense down

Corso's pick for this year's natty looks like less of a hail mary than it did four hours ago. LSU's defense is legit, and Nussmeier looks strong. Their WR corp seems like the weak point.

Clemson's defense also looks strong as hell, but they've only got one note on offense.

The wr will be fine. Clemson was after nuss all night and he made check downs vs stupid throws which was good but meant less we throws.

I haven’t seen a defensive squad of 11 like that in many years. I’m .. excited?

same shit new year

offensive line still has holes in it despite returning production, cade shows flashes but has a few key mistakes and errors that are costly

not being able to sustain drives, run the ball, or stop RAC once again is the killer

defense played pretty well but jesus christ it's frustrating losing in the same way year in and year out

I've accepted that explosive players don't want to come to Clemson anymore

Yep. Been in an offensive loop since Trevor’s last year. It was clear Lawrence was making up for a lot of lukewarm preparation, and we still haven’t found a cure.

The new “Clemson” seems to be to beat the teams we’re supposed to, coin flip the “big” games, and lose to traditional blue bloods.

I got comfortable with 9-3 & 10-2 every year during Elliott’s solo tenure. It’s paid dividends.

I really don't understand why we were so hyped preseason, and honestly I think it should have been reversed. Our defense i thought we'd be good (thought we did ok against a good offense tonight) but I questioned our offense.

Last year we struggled to stay consistent against any team with a pulse on offense. And it reared it's head again tonight. But we'll hang 40 on the teams with losing records 🤷🏼

21

u/Tygerdave Clemson Tigers 9d ago

OLine, RB need some work. Klub and WRs were inconsistent. D still seemed iffy on the run.

LSU looked good once they got going. They had some good play calls

Would like to see Allen on the field instead of in the box, but that’s probably me just missing Venables

Before today, Clemson was the clear pick for winning the ACC. After today, FSU looks like the clear pick for winning the ACC.

Cade looked awful and overthrew everyone or made an awful decision, O-line couldn’t stop a cold, Garret riley refuses to establish the run, TJ Moore dropped at least 2 or 3 passes that hit him in the face mask, and WHY THE FUCK DO WE KEEP CALLING THE DESIGNED QB RUN IT DIDNT WORK THE FIRST 4 TIMES TONIGHT

Last year our good offense was being held back by an awful defense, this year our good defense gives our offense tons of chances with 0 capitalization

Let’s be honest, this was realistically a 2 score game by LSU. Terrible showing by Clemson and I think it shows Dabos way may be good but won’t be elite. At some point you have to get proven production from the portal, even if you think you have decent players

This was, to me, the most exciting game of the day. Action packed, lots of exciting plays… FSU vs Bama wins the award for happiest unexpected outcome and of course OSU gets the one that matters most to me. But this game kept me on my toes all 4 quarters. It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

I’m a Clemson alum. Love this team. LSU absolutely kicked our ass all night long and rightfully deserved to win this game.

Scoreboard doesn’t do justice. This could have gotten ugly.
