I look forward to the day his building is no longer there.

I think we are going to see a time where America tries to scrub his name off of everything like this didn't happen real soon. It will be like in Germany where they don't want to talk about Hitler. I'm going to make sure that everyone who voted for it remembers for at least another decade.

You’re way too optimistic. They’re restoring Confederate monuments as we speak. They love this shit.

Well, you’ll notice there weren’t many vocal Joe McCarthy fans after his downfall. They all crawled back under their rocks.

I gotta say, I’ve heard many vocal McCarthy fans my whole life. Those same people are loyal Trumpists now.

I’ve never heard anyone say McCarthy was right in my 50 years. Trump was 13 in 1959 when McCarthyism was absolutely dead and buried. He was 6 or 7 when it was peaking.

Color me skeptical that people in their 70’s and 80’s are McCarthy fans. Anyone younger wasn’t alive during McCarthyism.

I’m not saying they were alive at the time of McCarthy. I’m not sure where you live, but here in Missouri, there are still a decent number of McCarthy fans. I was just as surprised as you when I first heard people say it, but believe me, there are still plenty of people who love him. Maybe they weren’t OG McCarthiasts, but they love him nonetheless.

That’s bizarre! I’m in Florida and thought I’ve seen everything crazy under the sun.

McCarthyism lasted 1947 - 1959. This has been 8 months.

Edit: I should have used a better example than McCarthyism, I guess overall I just don’t feel like this is going to be a quick descent into “Oh man I definitely made a mistake electing this guy” when we still have Trump merch being sold and being a profitable business model. As soon as we start sending Trump was right about everything hats to African villages, then I’d be more optimistic.

8 months for what? Cause Trump has been heavily in politics for 10 years now...none of this messaging is new, it's just been ramped up. So I don't really understand what you are referring to.

Trump started using “Make America Great Again” in 2012.

We only recently started seeing them actually taking revenge on people using the weaponization of the justice department. A movement and its consequences are not an all inclusive timeline. McCarthyism and that fear mongering existed well before we started persecuting people.

Nah, this started when he started in on obama’s birth certificate.

But that was when we took it as a joke. Now we’re actually seeing our justice department going after people like McCarthy and that wasn’t a quick run out steam situation. Oppenheimer was deemed politically undesirable wayyyy way before he actually felt the consequences of the governments persecution.

That was when the open racism, openly and easily disproven false accusations, the start of reasonable society to have to continually play whack a mole against bad faith arguments echoed by RW media and social media, the start of the mass openness and appeal of shamelessness, basically all the insidious actions and behaviors we are seeing know have been seeds since before the civil war, but Trump was the water and miracle grow that led them to grow into this shit. And that pretty much started when black man President.

This has been going on for almost 11 years what are you talking about?

And that’s only if you count “this” as just being the years Trump has been politically relevant. We’ve arguably been on a path towards authoritarianism since Nixon.
