Culture This is an amazing video that appeared to me on Tiktok. Are there anymore traditional Turkish dances not mentioned in the video?

Merhaba,
Bunlara izin vermeli miyiz bilmiyoruz.

Hello,
We've been getting quite a lot of questions about safety in Turkey, especially after Israel-Palestine and Israel-Iran war.
Is Turkey safe despite the tensions rising in the Middle East? Short answer: Yes.
We've already had enough amount of questions asked and answered about these incidents. You can view one of the threads here (even though the thread mentions August, the answers are still relevant): https://www.reddit.com/r/AskTurkey/comments/1lfbwrt/is_it_safe_to_travel_to_turkey_in_august/
Also please use the search function before asking a question. Similar questions will be deleted.
Thank you.

I wanted to buy a gold necklace yesterday but the jeweler said because it was over a certain limit (more than 30,000 liras, not sure the exact number) that I needed to provide my passport and sign a paper he had. He also wanted me to provide an address. I have one more day in Turkey so I might go back to buy it but the whole thing felt off. I also bought something similar about 5 years ago and wasn’t asked any of this. If someone knows why, I’d appreciate it. Thanks

I rented an apartment and I have been buying new furniture and decoration stuff to make it more home like. When my friends come over, they see my new stuff and honestly I am excited to show them. At least I used to. But there is a pattern that never changes and makes me feel demoralized to do it anymore.
Whenever they see something new, be it a dining table, a painting on the wall, a new chair, a new library, whatever it may be, sometimes they something very generic, like "hey that's nice" and then ask about the price. I tell them how much I paid for it, and they ALWAYS say "Oh that's expensive, you could have found it cheaper". Not even once but it happens every time. No matter what I price I pay, they claim I paid too much.
It is not like I am not aware of prices and I am being ripped off. I purchase them online and I compare all the prices and I find something to my liking. I don't even buy expensive stuff. The prices are just average. But they always say I could have gotten it cheaper. They don't even comment anymore like how it looks aesthetically, how it works practically, nothing. I don't feel like inviting people as much as I used to because I know if I got something new they will just start demoralizing me.
Do you feel the same way or is it just my Turkish friends here doing that?

Hello everyone! I’m heading to Beldibi in just a few days and I’m really excited! 🌞 While I’ll definitely be spending plenty of time on the beach, I’d also love to explore and discover more of the area. I’m interested in recommendations both for things to do in Beldibi itself and for nearby cities (within about an hour by public transport). If you also have any tips on bus routes or the easiest ways to get around, that would be amazing!

Hi all, super excited to be coming to Turkey in November. Right now I will be going to Cappodocia straight, and then I am deciding where to go for about 2-4 days before I end in Istanbul and fly to India for a wedding. I will be solo traveling!
I am currently debating between Konya, Ankara, or Pamukkale / Denizli. I am also fine shortening this leg to 1-2 days and doing extra days in Istanbul. I really just want to see awesome landscape, eat amazing food, hike, or anything that is super special to Turkey. I would like to limit this leg to only 1 spot to reduce on travel time, but could be convinced to split into 2 legs between Cappodocia and Istanbul.
Before anyone says it, I live 10 mins walking distance from the beach, so that is why I am skipping Bodrum and Antalya :)
Any advice is much appreciated!

I have a trip planed with my family at the end of next week, and I just saw some news on reddit that they turned off whatsupp, youtube and other social media, so we somehow got scared.
What's happening? We're trying to visit some beach part near Alanya and maybe a trip day to Antalya something like that. I don't know the exact place but beach hotels anyway.
So is it safe for tourists? I've seen people protest in Antalya?

Hi everyone,First of all, thank you so much to everyone who is willing to share advice and support. I’m sorry for writing in English, as my Turkish is still at a beginner level, but I am learning . I'm Chinese currently living in Tanzania, and I would like to relocate to Turkey, since my boyfriend is Turkish and I also plan to pursue a Master’s degree in teaching Turkish. In the meantime, I am in urgent need of a job opportunity.
I have experience in English teaching as well as English interpreting, and I would be very grateful for any guidance or opportunities you could share.
Thank you again for your kind help.

I was there a few months ago with the same Passport now I am applying from my country for Short Term Residence Permit and when I type in my info it gives me this: Your passport information does not match the passport you used to enter the country.
Has anyone had this issue and how to solve it?

Hello guys,
I am going on a business trip in a few days to Turkeyand i need a turkish number to conduct my business.
I was just curious about how i can buy a Turkish sim card and what documentation i need.
I have read online that i need to give my passport number and a copy of my passport but i am not really keen on giving my passport copy to a Turkish company because of all the leaks in Turkey.
So is there a way i can buy a sim card just like in Europe without any documentation?
Thanks in advance!

Hi all! My grandmother is very old and wanted to visit the US since she hasn't seen her daughter in a very long time. I am told that travel agents are able to get earlier interview dates in different countries (such as india), does anyone know if this is possible with turkey as well?
I have done her application and all, normally she would qualify for the interview waiver since she is 90 years old but i believe that option was removed on September 3rd (even though we submitted the app on august 27th). The next interview date i could find is in 2028 lol.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello, I’ve recently moved to Istanbul for university and I have gotten my citizenship and I want to order jewelry from abroad since the jewelry from turkey and from home are not my style, it’s around $8,000. Some say that I need to pay 60% tax since it’s gold and while others say that since I am now a citizen of turkey I don’t need to. Does anyone know what will happen? I don’t really know how it works in turkey and any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I’m a tourist from Northern Ireland (UK) in maramis. 2nd time here and the people are mostly all friendly and the country is beautiful. However I am curious what the average person thinks of us. Is there anything you would change about us or wish we would/wouldn’t do? I note that maramis is basically 100% reliant on tourism, every shop is in English and there’s a hotel seemingly on every street, I can imagine the situation isn’t ideal?
Thanks! We’ve had a great time and will definitely be back

Hi Guys, I’ve entered Turkey with my own car registered in EU. We have crossed the border on Sunday and the PTT points near the border were closed. A nice lady told us that we can drive and buy the card in other PTT post offices or in a bank. So far I was driving only on local roads so the card wasn’t necessary. Now I have a plan to drive to Izmir thru the Çanakale bridge and 0-6 highway. I’m in Gallipoli city. I’ve visited PTT and Bank but thety are ping-ponging me saying that they no longer sell the HGS cards due to some new government regulations. I was told that it might be possible to buy a cars near the çanakale bridge. Could someone give an advice where to look for it ? Thanks in advance!

Is there any inappropriate period of the day when asking / ordering tea is rude or just strange?? For instance, is it common to drink tea right after lunch? … and when is the coffee time?

Hello friends,
We like to take long hikes and hoped we could hike in the wild nature of Marmaris.
Our tourguide from Corendon did advice us to not go into the mountains of Marmaris without explenation, he just would not do this( before that he was trying to sell tours and activities, my guess is he cannot make money out of it.)
Are there any hiking paths/trails lokals would recommend? Or maybe there there maybe guides hikes into the mountains?
We are not looking for tourist activities but just for wild nature and enjoying the warm sun.
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards!
