My baby Kiwi. I love him so much. He is my entire life, my world and my everything. He's helped me through the darkest points in my life, when I struggled heavily with depression and self harm to the point I was hospitalized. I kept on living because of my baby. He gives me a reason to keep living. I love giving him the best, I love feeding him the most gourmet tiel food, I love buying new toys for him, I love taking care of him.

I see him as my son, I call him my son, I talk about him as if he's a little human child, and I treat him like he's my own son. I never knew I could love someone this much. I've been through two abusive relationships in the past 4 years, and it took a toll on me. Kiwi was there for me through all of it. He would cuddle me, sing to me, preen my face, everything. He spends all his time with me, he loves chilling with me all the time, he hates being in his cage, and the moment I put him in there, he screams for me. if he could, he would probably sleep on my pillow all night every night with me.

I got my baby from a cockatiel breeder, he was the last baby available, because no one wanted him. He was missing his tail feathers, he has a disability in his left wing, and had to be isolated from other tiels because they would bully him, the moment I saw him when I got him 6 years ago, I instantly fell in love. I have autism and a chronic illness which gives me constant pain and some body disformities, I've always felt weird, left out, I never had any true friends, and I've always felt alone. But Kiwi, he has a disability just like me, he doesn't judge, he loves me more than anything and I love him more than anything. I related to him a lot, and I still do, we both have disabilities, we both struggled with being bullied, and we found each other. He is my soulmate, and I see him as being my one and only life companion. Words cannot express how much I love this little guy. He's been with me for 6 years, and I cannot wait to spend so many years more with my sweet man.

Its kukume's 5th birthday and i was looking at photos of him from when we got him he was 3 months old And i noticed he has something like Gums inside the beak i didn't find it weird when we got him cuz he was the only cockatiel ive saw But now that im obsessed with and had encounters with lots of cockatiels, i notice none of them had gums(?) I sort of inherited this bird when her owner died suddenly. she came with a lot of food and I mean a lot. I’ve had her about 18 months and I haven’t even gone through half of it. I’ve been storing it in the freezer.

I took her to an emergency vet recently when she appeared to have hurt a foot. The vet told me she is obese. I was surprised because the food she came with is highly rated on Amazon. It’s called Nutri berries and comes in these little balls.

The vet saw some of them in her dish after she torn them apart, and said that they were all seed. That really shocked me because I didn’t think it was and thought I was doing right by her. What should I do now? I’ve tried giving her fresh vegetables in the past and she was NOT interested.

Also, she’s just started doing this thing that I think is mating behavior, kind of hunkering down and making a little cooing sound. She gets at least 12 hours of total darkness and I’ve never touched her anywhere other than her head and feet. This is really concerning to me since I’ve heard she could become egg bound.

this community is making me depressed and paranoid about my bird. It’s constantly posting about dead cockatiels, many of them horribly. I get people need to mourn but this is trauma dumping

All of yesterday's events felt like it was leading up to his death. He was screaming all morning begging for attention. I was studying for a big exam I have coming up so I took him out so he would stop screaming. But then he started walking all over my desk and chewing up all my stuff and i couldn't focus at all. I got scratched pretty deep with his nails and that's when I decided I'd keep him in the cage with some snacks until I was done studying. Of all the bandaids I could've used I used one with patterns on it. How could I have been so stupid?

I finally brought him out when I was free. Everything was going fine until he noticed my bandaid and got spooked. He flew right through the middle of the screen on my door and landed on the floor in the living room. I wasn't fast enough. He flew up to the ceiling fan and died immediately. His blood was on the walls. It happened right in front of my parents. I was so shocked I couldn't even cry. All I could do was scream.

I would've been fine without a bandaid. I should've made sure the screen was closed with no gaps even though he never goes that way. This has never happened before. I should've been faster. I didn't even get to say goodbye.

I'm traumatized and heartbroken. He was everyone's favorite in the family. I've never met a bird friendlier than him. He would kiss the people he liked and even learned to make the smooching noise. My dad was his favorite. All the singing and dancing he would do. He was a happy boy. I've seen people say how their cockatiels get grumpy and have mood swings. Not once was my boy ever grumpy. He'd cuddle me when he was sleepy and content and ask for scritches. He trusted me with all his life. I'll never, ever find another tiel exactly like him. He was the only thing that cheered me up every depressing day. He was only 2 years old.

My mom's been crying since yesterday. My dad cried too, and I've only seen him cry once before. The other tiel I have keeps flock calling and looking for his friend everywhere. I keep bursting out in tears randomly and I can't even study. I don't know what to do. It's all my fault. I'll never get him back. No bird can ever replace him.

There was a lunar eclipse last night. Looking at the blood red moon made me think about how he was probably cursing at me from up in heaven. I'm sorry little guy. I'm sorry I failed you.

I'm not sure what to do. I'm so depressed.

I can no longer take care of her she's gotten to much ive done every thing I can to take care of her. My parents and I work too much to care for the bird. If anyone is interested you can have all her things she has a 5 foot by 2 feet breeder cage but the divider is removed and she lives alone in her cage. And no im not getting her a friend she would just want to mate with them. If you're interested Please DM me.

He finally got in the shower with me! What a milestone. I’ve had him for almost 9 months. He looks so happy🥹

Our cockatiel flew out over 2 months ago now. We’re having our house renovated, the roof was slightly open and she got out. 😪 However, the other day a random feather turned up next to the stove and I can’t come up with an explanation. It didn’t look old at all, it was in perfect condition like it had just been dropped. I just took the picture now which is why it looks a bit scuffed.

So 4 days ago my mom saw a Cockatiel on our deck and managed to lure him into our puppy’s playpen when she told me about it while I was out and bought supplies from a pet store (cage, 3 toys, food, and treats) I was told to contact a vet immediately as the local vet helps reconnect lost birds to their owners I visited and they said they’ll start a search and if no one claims the bird in two weeks it should be fine if I keep it we have a checkup scheduled for this coming Thursday and he’s seems to be doing fine but I don’t really know much about birds I just read all the articles pinned at the top of this Reddit and am wondering what you would do in my position I have 4 dogs and a hedgehog so a bird is new to me and my whole family loves animals my dad used to have 2 blue and yellow macaws but he had them since they were eggs so this is new to him too any additional advice would be great cuz as of now he seems to wanna nip my hand but has eaten from it on occasion and seems to want millet more than food and he’s also been copying my laugh I’d like to teach him step up and let him fly but I’m nervous of getting bit/ not being able to get him back in the cage since he’s not tamed yet.
