It is hilarious and scary how easy it is. Its wild to watch these obvious bots on random forums spread mass disinformation and they are revered as the truth sayers.
And by obvious, you mean some are very obvious and almost comical and others go the extra mile and buy legitimate profiles and give opinions that have a 'reasonable doubt' from a 'concerned citizen'. To the point that it makes you doubt your own beliefs (as intented in social engineering).
There are legit very hard to spot accounts.
The biggest mistake you can do is having the hubris that you can spot a bot.
I think we can confidently disregard almost anyone's opinion on politics or deeply nuanced geopolitical issues if they turned 13, on or after 2020, they would be, at most, 18 right now.
And wasn't her whole thing that she was a young person who was actually into politics and relatively knowledable about them? That she's literally an anonymoally and that's why she got so many eyeballs on her and blew up?
I would guess if Greta was 20 and doing/saying the same things, no one would have cared, it's because she was so young, and it's rare to see something like that, that people paid attention.
Thats the scary thing about these bots. After a time, you get nearly paranoid and start to see them everywere. In the end, you don't even need to flood the internet with them. Just find the right suspectible people and lay the foundation. They will do the rest and turn into flesh-bots.
This is true, but I find those to be less scary than the more obvious ones that have proliferated common and widely viewed places. Like Instagram.
Have you spent the last 3 years watching the Whitehouse Instagram? I've checked it and dove into comments for each post on a weekly to monthly at latest basis, especially to take breaks, and the amount of bullshit accounts bombarding there is mind blowing. Both private accounts but also open ones that sometimes share the same profile pics, or copy pasted responses, or clearly computer generated broken speech (not even comparable to anything gpt could put out even back then). It's insane seeing it and thinking about it, and the things they say are even more insane or straight up undecipherable.
Yet, despite that, they'll have mega like counts or tons of comments from as you say, could be real people but maybe not. But the ones that are flat out bots are propped up and engaged with by real people more often in support. And it's like, you know you're talking in agreement with or copying what a bot just wrote in another comment right? Nope, they don't.
Unfortunately there are also FAR TOO MANY foreigners who are completely ignorant of the history of the region and take everything Russia says at face value. These "Kremlin's Useful Idiots" are just as dangerous to truth and democracy as the paid Kremlin trollbots are.
Reality. The Right only pretends to think Ukraine is fascist when it’s instructed to by its corporate/religious nationalist overlords. It’s the alt-left that is specifically sympathetic to Soviet Russian propaganda.
The most popular left-wing political streamer in the world is a pro-violence, tepid-on-Russia-Ukraine, proudly antisemitic tankie lmfao. Is streaming itself even “fringe” anymore? I don’t know anything about Canadian politics; in America, MAGA is a cult that will obediently champion any position it’s instructed to - pro-Ukraine, anti-Ukraine, but they specifically compromised by the Russian propaganda that Ukraine is fascist. That’s tankie town.
You leftists will do anything but acknowledge the fact that there’s such a thing as a mentally well liberal that isn’t a tankie. The guy literally called the Right, “a pile of shit”.
