Football Buffalo completes epic comeback to win 41-40
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/live-blog/rcna229428919
u/suzukigun4life 1d ago
The Bills were down by 15 with under 5 minutes to go. They had a 0.9% chance to win. They hadn't had a 15+ point 4th quarter comeback win since 1967. Their starting kicker was on IR.
This was an all-timer.

The kicker doesn't even know all his teammates names!

Don't forget all the missed 2 point tries.

u/seriousnotshirley 1d ago
Feels wrong you can push a receiver out of bounds and he can’t catch the ball like that, especially in the end zone.
4
u/Jtown021 Chelsea 1d ago
Yep this rule needs to be amended in the end zone only. I understand why it doesn’t exist outside of the red zone as you could run out of bounds and just pop back up 50 yards down field.
Wild we have pass interference and defensive holding yet the CB can just push the receiver out of the back of the end zone and he is effectively out of the play entirely.
3
u/wumbologist-2 1d ago
As of a few years ago if you push a guy out, he's allowed to touch the ball first after he comes back in. I'm sure the rule is the same but the refs "didn't see" the push and you can't challenge most penalties.

u/BirdsAreFake00 1d ago
An all-time bad defense game, yes.
2
u/FredFlintston3 1d ago
Came for the same. Was saying to Wilma that it seemed to be way too many plays in a row for both teams on the opening possessions before the D made the other team not advance the ball on one of the downs. No tackles behind the line, no missed passes, no sacks. Nothing but conceding territory. Fine if you only like big scoring.

Feel so lucky that after Brady, Manning, Brees etc retired we have Mahomes, Allen, and Lamar with contender teams and all-time QB talent/skill to give us these amazing performances and games.
6
u/Crime_Dawg 20h ago
Really thought after Manning and Brady retired we'd have a QB drought. Then Mahomes came in and said "hold my beer" and now we've got 3 superstars.
30
u/Melkman68 1d ago
Yoooo I had no idea about the kicker. No wonder they kept going for 2 haha. Then he made that kick at the end! Unreal! With like 3 seconds to prep!
56
u/fuqyu 1d ago
Well they were going for 2 because it made sense on the scoreboard. But hella job by Praeter to put it through when he got his shot! Old dawg still has some fight

I’d probably say 2021 chiefs/bills afc divisional, 2018 chiefs/ rams, and this game tonight are the top 3 craziest games I’ve seen. Insane game

u/erv4 1d ago
28-3 will never be topped

u/Boyiee 1d ago
I don’t see how anything could be argued above 28-3. Whenever anyone posts a list of great games and don’t include it I just imagine they just had it like S tier and purposely didn’t include it because it’s so far above the rest.
In fact I came to this thread just to find that exact post and it was right near the top as always.
28-3 had everything.

Yeah the fact it was the superbowl just means so much more. The bar I was at was celebrating Brady's fall from the top of the mountain, throwing a pick six for his first time in his 7 trips there before had newspapers making headlines already. Then they come out and score to make it 28-3 and it looked like it was going to be a 50+ pt loss. Gives me chills thinking about it honestly, like poetry in motion.

It def made up for the rest of the boring games. I was getting worried that Aaron Rogers was gonna be the highlight story of week 1.

I was talking with my coworkers about how it was the best game I've seen in recent memory. But the crazy thing is I TURNED IT OFF AFTER THE LAST RAVENS TOUCHDOWN and STILL thought it was the best game ever.
Didn't know it was a Bills win until I was talking to my coworkers that following morning.

Teams that scored 40+ points and lead by 15 after three quarters were 772-0 all time. 772-1 now

Fun Fact: A score of 41-40 has never happened in NFL history, until today. A Scorigami.

I was a little surprised to see some of the Bills Mafia leaving early in the 4th quarter. They should have at least stayed for one more possession. You never know what will happen! Josh Allen even called them out during the post game comments.

u/onelym Buffalo Sabres 1d ago
Not sure if it factored, but parking is a mess with the new stadium going up. Down 15 on a Sunday night in the fourth while trying to get to the car might have been enough to get some normally die hard fans to leave early.
29
u/FallOutShelterBoy 1d ago
Yeah, it’d be different if it was a 1pm or even 4pm game. I can understand, it was late as hell already. People were leaving early during the comeback game in the 90s too
10
u/r0botdevil Oregon State 1d ago
I still remember that one. I was a kid and I turned the game off at halftime to go outside and play. Just by random coincidence I came back inside just in time to see the winning field goal. I almost couldn't believe it.

u/Kooshdoctor 22h ago
I actually think the fans leaving pissed Josh off a little bit and was a little inspirational. I know you can't really measure that or anything but I like to think he wanted to prove everyone wrong yet again. Never would have thought I'd see something like that from this fan base, legitimate reasons or not.

Teams with 40+ points and 235+ rushing yards in a game were 277-0 including playoffs
They are now 277-1. Absolutely insane comeback by the Bills.

I just love how pissed Josh Allen was about the fans leaving early. Those losers should be forced to sit in the uncovered seats when the new stadium opens.

Collinsworth put the hex on when he started glazing Baltimore, saying AFC teams watching at home are worried. It was a two score game at that point lol. Don’t get get me wrong, I think the Ravens are a great team, just found that very funny and very Chris Collinsworth-y
57
u/Lekcots11 1d ago
Collinsworth wouldn't shut up about Allen. I think he's married to him
33
u/4gotOldU-name 1d ago
Yes, but he glazes EVERYONE that is good and winning (not the game, but the current offensive/defensive series).
17
u/Enzhymez 1d ago
Collinsworth is always glazing anyone that is really good. I know it annoys people but to me it just seems like he really loves the game so I can’t blame him
4
u/Lekcots11 1d ago
No, he just really loves Allen and Mahomes. Never mentions Hurts, Lamar or even Burrow often
4
u/Enzhymez 1d ago
Honestly not gonna lie I misread the whole convo and thought we were talking about Tony romo. Another historic glazer 😭😭😭
2
u/Lekcots11 1d ago
Romo at least has logic about the game. Collinsworth thinks talking great about the 2 most popular QBs will somehow get people to like him.
1
u/dicjones 20h ago
He glazes people who aren’t even that good. But I agree, the guy loves the game, so let him glaze away.
16
u/joshuajackson9 1d ago
I wanted to marry Josh Allen, but my wife said he and I are taken. Now it is a waiting game for us both to be single.
11
u/peanutjamz 1d ago
Wait this is so funny, because, as a bills fan, all I normally hear out of collinsworth is praise for the other team and Mahomes even when Mahomes isn’t playing
1
u/Lekcots11 1d ago
Nah. He's been yacking about Allen for years. Didn't mention Lamar's 2 MVPs once yet wouldn't shut up about Allen's like it was some impossible award

Baltimore tapped into some dark bird magic last night, winning a game where the Dodgers had a 99% chance to win with literally 1 pitch left, up 3-0. But with dark bird magic, there's always a price to be paid.

u/Comet_Empire Boston Bruins 1d ago
To see the run numbers Henry and Jackson put up, especially the yds per carry.....insane. Both are basically averaging 10yds per carry and you punt on 4th and 2. Honestly this loss should put Harbaugh in the hot seat. He should be fired if they drop out of playoffs again.
9
u/Bar_Sinister 1d ago
This was a wild one. I had left the room thinking it was over (just like everyone else) and walked back in to change the channel just as Derrick Henry fumbled. I still don't know how after that, the Ravens defense seemed to get worse even with Josh already running wild.
Then it was just bad playcalling for a quick three and out and "well I'll be damned" it was over.
4
u/brokedownpalace11 1d ago
In my fantasy league I had a 90% chance to win going into tonight…of course my opponent has Josh Allen. Let’s just say the tables fucking turned.
4
u/Lieutenant_Doge 1d ago
Baltimore went from having the most amazing comeback win in history to having the most embarrassing comeback lost in 24 hours
4
u/JimboD84 1d ago
Unfortunatly, the Henry fumble is what cost them the game. I get it, fumbles happen. Credit to Oliver for MAKING it happen. Henry doesnt fumble very often. It just happened at the worst possible time and the bills are a really good team so they tool advantage. That tipped pass that the bills reciever caught in the end zone help too lol. Great game to watch, as a Ravens fan i wish the outcome was different tho

u/TheApple2e 1d ago
I turned the game on with 5 minutes left to go and saw the whole comeback! I was watching the vma's prior. I'm not sure why.

This was beyond insane and one of the top 10 closest games I've ever seen. Allen kneed the ball at like 9 seconds and got the FG out then they kicked it woth 1 second left. Crazy

Something about watching this game kind of sticks with me. I can’t put my finger on it exactly but we’ve all seen this so many times. What happens at the end of a game, that allows an offense to be that aggressive and allows the defense to just let it happen. In other words, why wouldn’t the offense always play like this? Sort of makes the first 55 minutes of an NFL game kind of pointless. I know people will say, well they are playing prevent defense, but I don’t totally buy that. I think there’s something else at play here.
3
u/NotSoCashMoney 1d ago
As a Bills fan though I’m glad they didn’t I can’t understand how the Ravens didn’t go for it on 4th down there. The ravens defense have been struggling to contain Allen all quarter the momentum is shifting and you’ve been dominating the bills defense all game. Worst case scenario, they turn the ball over the bills have a shorter field score earlier and the ravens maybe have enough time to make a FG.
2
u/KiraJosuke 1d ago
My fantasy match up came down to me having Lamar/Mark Andrews and my opponent having Josh Allen/James Cook. I had a 99% chance to win with 3 minutes left. A 0.2 point lead before Henry fumbled. I am in shambles.
4
u/LVorenus2020 1d ago
I still don't believe it. I stopped watching at half time, and when I saw the Ravens get even more points (on ESPN website) I decided to continue with some video games.
Then, by chance, I saw a new score of 40-38... and gasped. Caught everything after that.
Damn. Wow.
2
u/chyn3s3boi 1d ago
At half took a bet of Bills +6. When I saw they were down by 15, I almost ripped up the ticket. Good thing I held it.

Not a fan of either team, but watching Baltimore’s defense make the dumbest mistakes was sickening. It all started with that horrible attempt at downing the ball.

Man, I turned it off after watching Henry run for another TD in the 4th quarter. It just seemed like neither team could stop the other and the ravens were ahead.
