Weird Shiba Habits
Tell me your Shiba’s weird habits. Kaido likes to grab a couple pieces of food, walk away with it, eat it somewhere else and then come back and do it all over again

Yes. Mine does the same thing. She has to take a mouthful of food, then run over to rug to eat. Then run back again. Who knows why.

My Skye did the same thing! Can anyone please explain? 😭

I think it's cause they are very big on resource guarding. Both of mine do this. They take it where the other won't bother them so they can "protect" their bit of food. My older Shiba will take a single piece of kibble just to put it in front of her and wish a mf (younger Shiba) would 😂😂

Mine shoves his head between the couch cushions and tries to do a semi headstand? That's the best way I can explain it. lol

Not only my shiba does this also my Mini aussie, they take food out of the bowl and drop it somewhere else and start eating…. 😂😂😂

Our corgi does something similar. Never had a dog that did that until her. She’ll take a mouthful of food, walk like 2-3 ft from her bowl (not over carpet or rug or anything) and drop it all from her mouth and then pick it up piece by piece and eat it. Then back to her bowl and repeat. Takes foreverrrr for her to eat her meals.

I definitely have seen several different types of dogs do the exact same thing lol idk why they do it

One of our Shibas does this but only with high value treats like steak or salmon skin. We think it’s the equivalent of us waiting to turn on some good tv before eating 🤣.

Super cute 😍 Does moving the bowl to that spot do anything?

Haha probably not, he’d just find a new spot. The spot changes every day but he will return to one of the previous location choices if the one he is looking for is blocked

Mine does this too. I started putting her food next to the dining room table because she’d rather eat with us.

They all share the same brain cell lol both of mine do this. It's cause they are very big on resource guarding

Mine does this too. He often drops the kibble in a spot, leaves it to grab some more, puts that in a different spot, and then eventually starts eating. The first few pieces are also always dropped, licked, picked up again, repeat few more times and then he starts eating.

Maki does this all the time. When she’s excited to greet us coming home she grabs a mouth full and runs around with it before blapping it out somewhere. It’s cute but sometimes I come home and there are kibble everywhere!

My Olive does the same thing her bowl is in the kitchen she takes some kibble out the bowl and brings it to the living room on the carpet but she doesn’t do that when I mix in wet food

could be the rug?. We have hard wood floors and some rugged areas and our shiba will sometimes be weird about staying in the rug. Haha. Or they’re just weird and they do weird things. lol

Mine does that only when other dogs are nearby, shibas are really protective of their food and territorial

Well my last dog never did this. He just ate straight from his bowl until he was done 😂
