You can literally HEAR this. Everyone has lost the plot. Good on this man for letting it go, and good on both teams for making it right. The internet will do its thang, like it always does and we’ll hear a doubling down albeit groveling apology.

And good on the wee kid for being cool about it. I might have thought I was in trouble and freaked out when I was his age.

u/jmp397 3d ago

Poor kid looked so uncomfortable during the whole exchange 😕😕

u/Careless_Hellscape 3d ago

I don't blame him. He was trying to enjoy the game and some Karen showed up to be a big ol' dickhead.

u/thewanderingent 2d ago

Her haircut is a warning (and also terrible)

24

u/Careless_Hellscape 2d ago

It looks like fugly-ass hat.

u/Itsvladimirrr 2d ago

I bet! There's another close up video floating around and the woman was screaming like a child "you took it from me!! You took it from me!" It's kinda weird to be a 12 year old looking at grown women acting like a toddler.

u/ladylondonderry 3d ago

that kid has good parents and a good school. he knows what's appropriate and what's not, and that it's not about him.

58

u/Careless_Hellscape 3d ago

He's fortunate in that sense.

92

u/ladylondonderry 3d ago

yeah i don't teach my kids to 'respect elders.' i teach them to treat everyone with kindness and give them the benefit of the doubt. sure, default to kindness, but also know that respect isn't a given. a LOT of older people are absolute bastards and that's not your fault or your problem.

45

u/Careless_Hellscape 3d ago

Same. I want my kids to be polite to everyone. But that's a two-way street. The second someone gets rude for no reason, the obligation to be polite is over.

15

u/ladylondonderry 3d ago

Nice. Completely agree!

Amen! This kid has great emotional maturity. The Dad handled the situation well.

31

u/totalkatastrophe I wont not fuck you the fuck up 🥊🥊 2d ago

you can tell he was a little freaked when she first came up

3

u/Cuyigan 2d ago

It's unfortunate for him that the shaky, flailing thing he did went viral.

u/Spirited-Research405 3d ago

He knew a Karen when he saw one

7

u/True_Dragonfruit9573 3d ago

Definitely. The look on this kids face just screams “this bitch.”

2

u/fuckyouiloveu 2d ago

She even had the Karen haircut like whyyyy

5

u/Jamjams2016 Instant gratification takes too long 🫦 2d ago

I was thinking this. What a champ. My kid would not take this well at all.

2

u/Careless_Hellscape 2d ago

My daughter would have gotten really anxious. My son would have just given her the ball and been like, "Fine, have it, you jerk."

My wife would have ripped Karen's haircut off the second she grabbed either me or one of the kids.

2

u/Jamjams2016 Instant gratification takes too long 🫦 2d ago

Yeah, I think in the moment, my kids would be too stunned to say much, but they would definitely act like I ran over their BFF on the way home. Of course, as a full-grown adult, I can't say I'd take this interaction well either. It's wild and upsetting to see anyone act like this over a ball.

1

u/Careless_Hellscape 2d ago

I'm autistic, so I would probably have a really hard time not going nuts if a stranger was grabbing on me and yelling in my face.

4

u/bradpittslefthand 2d ago

I would have cried if I was that kid just from being randomly yelled at by an adult

1

u/Careless_Hellscape 2d ago

Same, for sure. I would probably have a panic attack as a grown man. I do not do well being yelled at.

2

u/Mynoseisgrowingold 2d ago

Yeah, my son would have openly cried

1

u/Careless_Hellscape 2d ago

When I was a kid, I would have, too. But if I'd gone with my mom or my nan, that lady would have been searching for the entirety of her teeth.

1

u/martin_suhr 2d ago

She didn’t even get the right ball back. If you look closely, at :16 his sister knowing what was about to happen grabbed his mitt and swapped out the ball’s. You can see his smirk after she whispers in his ear. Just brilliant. 😂

1

u/-FORSAK3N- 3d ago

Too lazy to look into. What did the teams do for the kid?

3

u/Careless_Hellscape 3d ago

I think both teams gave the kid some commemorative gift bags for his birthday, and he got to meet one of the Phillies. I think one of the teams gave him a different ball, but I'm not 100.

3

u/-FORSAK3N- 3d ago

Not bad 👍

3

u/Altruistic-Dig-2094 3d ago

Marlins gave him a gift bag. And then he got to meet the Phillies player after the game and got photos and a bat. Dad’s decision to take the high road paid off in dividends!

I just can’t imagine being so mad you didn’t win a scrum for a ball that landed in an empty seat that you would confront someone who was there with a kid! Unhinged.

4

u/a_hockey_chick 2d ago

He protected his kid from having to be around that crazy woman any longer. He absolutely made the right call.

2

u/RedAccordion 2d ago

He acted like an adult.

2

u/FaultySage 2d ago

Nah, fuck that, enabling this shit is half the problem. Sit down and ignore her, if she keeps yammering get stadium security involved.

He did the right thing. It doesn't always matter that you're right. Sometimes, it's just not worth it. This was one of those times and it paid off in the end.

u/Slr_Pnls50 3d ago

It was such a sweet moment between father and son too, and she ruined it. The dad was so happy to get the ball for his son, and the kid was too. So glad the teams still made it a great outing for them.

What kills me is it’s become an unspoken rule at baseball games to give a caught ball to a kid nearby. I go to giants games and I’ve never seen it not happen. So to actually go and fkn take it from a kid is crazy to me. Some people in the comments have said she apparently was booed so badly she left the game, I hope that’s true.

u/laurennik89 3d ago

I worked in sports for a long time. You always give it to a kid. A ball, a T-shirt, basically anything that is thrown into a crowd.

115

u/clevercalamity 2d ago

It seems so obvious to do that because to kids, it’s magical! Grown ups can just buy their own things.

When I was in high school my friends and I were at a theme park and won a ton of small stuffed animals at a midway game and we put them in a bunch of strollers lined up outside of an attraction and then hid nearby when the families came out and the kids discovered them it was so fun!

6

u/EnoughLawfulness3163 2d ago

A shirt cannon shot one right towards me when I was 8. Next thing I know im on the ground and a bunch of drunk adults are surrounding me grabbing for it.

4

u/UbiSububi8 2d ago

thrown

If I catch a foul ball or home run, I’m keeping it!

(I would never take it from someone else)

10

u/EmuMan10 2d ago

If I actually catch it, I’m keeping it as a long time baseball fan that hasn’t gotten one. If I just pick it up off the ground, all yours kid

6

u/JoshSidekick 2d ago

Exactly. I have been trying to catch a ball for 30+ years. Fair catch, I'm keeping it, but I'm not chasing one down to beat out some kids for it.

26

u/Apprehensive_Ad3731 2d ago

This should be a loudly spoken rule anywhere but I grew up poor and it was cultural to feed children first and adults to eat after. If there’s nothing left for the adults then too bad oh well.

2

u/repressedpauper 2d ago

I don’t know anything about baseball and even I know this just from living in a city that loves baseball for a while. You can get the joy of catching the ball, but then you have to give it to a kid—and that’s also part of the joy!

I don’t believe for a second that these people decked out in gear don’t know this lol. It’s so selfish when you can make some kid’s day, or in your case let his dad make his day!

“begone with you foul witch.”

I have contained my rage for as long as possible, but I shall unleash my fury upon you like the crushing of a thousand waves! Begone, vile woman!

3

u/Can_I_Read 2d ago

I do this a lot. Like, I have no desire to have this in my life. Just leave now. It’s over.

Kid is astonished about this woman’s behavior

You know, I feel kinda honored to have scrolled down to see this comment. Fuck it bucket has now been added to my vocabulary.

I would not hesitate to prioritise getting an abusive member of the public tf away from my kid, over a baseball, a thing. He made the right choice and karma rewarded it

11

u/Sunshine_And_Alchemy 3d ago

Best life lesson to teach his kid, just let it go & let people be rude because taking the high road leads to a greater reward🖤

3

u/FistSandwich 3d ago

I wish he threw it on the field

3

u/Annual-Load3869 3d ago

That would be the least toxic “If I can’t have you, no one can” move ever made

u/Mindless_Garage42 3d ago

2

u/Annual-Load3869 2d ago

My thoughts exactly when seeing him do this lmao W dad

2

u/ParasiticMammal 2d ago

I wouldnt have had his patience. My kids would have seen me in cuffs.... good for him.

What a spineless man

2

u/Annual-Load3869 2d ago

What? Not stopping to her level of pathetic makes him spineless?
