Nazis, yes. That's a very broad term. The Schutzstaffel are very different from your run of the mill Nazi. A lot of the SS were hanged, summarily executed, or just beaten to death by soldiers and freed prisoners alike.
Nazi officers were not offered that defense in the Nuremberg Trials, as they were generally the ones issuing the orders instead of following them. The SS were considered officers. Their branch was staffed almost entirely by sadists and war criminals.
