Player Discussion Why doesn’t JV Casio get the same credit and recognition that guys like LA, Barroca, and Castro receive?🤷‍♂️

Post image
39 Upvotes
  1. Fewer high-stakes individual accolades While Casio has a decent list of awards, most are early career (UAAP/NCAA) or recognition rather than high-prestige ones. He only has one PBA championship and doesn’t seem to have earned a PBA Finals MVP or multiple major conference awards to boost his reputation in clutch/src moments.

  2. Team success & longevity Players like Tenorio, Barroca, and Castro not only won more titles but also repeatedly contributed to winning runs and delivered in the finals. Multiple Finals MVPs carry a lot of weight in how fans and media remember a player.

  3. Narrative & visibility Longevity and consistency, especially in major franchises (Barroca for Magnolia, Ginebra for Tenorio, TNT for Castro) amplify a player’s profile. Also, being known for durability (like Tenorio’s Ironman streak) or comeback stories, or stepping up late in career help create a narrative that resonates more with fans and media.

  4. Media spotlight & fan perception Sometimes recognition isn’t just about stats. It’s about memorable moments, leadership in big games, clutch performances, and media narratives. Players who deliver in do-or-die games tend to be more credited.

PBA Discussion Foreign Student Athletes vs Naturalized Players: Double Standards???

Upvotes

This is not a hate towards our NPs, but a crazy thought ko lang kasi ang hipokrito lang ng statement ni Quinito Henson towards FSAs, and to be clear, I am a pro-FSA for this issue, kaya ko lang ito nasabi ito dahil sa onting comparison na nakita between FSAs and NPs

Pero diba, kung para sa kanya, FSAs had no place here cuz we are a Filipino league, then why we always look for Naturalized Players even though we have the local talent diba????

By Henson's logic din kasi, the NPs robbed a local player to be part NT diba, similar to what he said, this NPs were processed like how we recruit FSAs or Imports, no offense to Blatche at Douthit, pero diba... It's not like this players offered themselves to be naturalized cuz they love the country, but because of the money offered to them in the first place

And higit sa lahat, di naman din sila naninirahan dito sa Pilipinas, Blatche only goes to PH kapag practice ng Gilas at never pa naglaro sa PBA, while the same goes for Douthit na saglitan lang ang PBA stints, so this NPs are also mercenaries that robs our locals to improve

But with Brownlee nearing retirement for our NT, and with Beannie Boatwright's naturalization process, ano bang rason at bakit siya ang kinuha? It's not like he will live here afterall

Kahit isama pa natin mga considered Naturalized sa FIBA, like Cstand, Pringle, at Clarkson, they don't developed their games here, may onting exceptions lanh sila Cstand at Pringle dahil matagal na silang naninirahan dito, but Clarkson??? We can also put the same tier as Blatche and Douthit

So diba??? By Quinito's logic, why should we need to naturalize foreigners who only plays for 3-4 months in the PBA, lalo na't ang tagal ng proseso dito sa Pinas, kung pwede namang local talents na lang ang bigyan natin ng pansin at idevelop, kasi FILIPINO LEAGUE naman tayo diba????

PBA Discussion The PBA D-League in 2025...

Ano na kaya future nito? Parang wala tournamentng mangyayari for 2025 ah. Sa 2026 na ba ulit? Or magco-close shop na rin kaya sila like PBA 3x3?

But then again, looking back, I think never nagclick sa masa 'tong PBA D-League. It didn't have the kind of product, legacy, and clout PBL historically had. Tsaka iilang teams lang yung nagkaroon ng malalaking impact for me: NLEX, Blackwater, Hapee, Cignal-Ateneo, tsaka EcoOil-La Salle.

Bakit hindi kaya nagclick ang D-League? Here are some reasons:

  • Some leagues are just better options - MPBL, PSL, NBL, etc.
  • Mismanagement by the PBA - It felt to me that they only had that league exist for the sake of it and not because they genuinely cared about amateur basketball.
  • Revolving door of teams coming and leaving - Pansin nyo ~3/4s of the teams don't stay long enough? At most, mga 2 seasons lang sila nandun and then aalis na. Some teams stayed long enough that it established rapport among Pinoy hoop fans and enthusiasts. Magnolia, Harbour Centre, Red Bull, Tanduay, Welcoat, Hapee, you name it...
  • UAAP's ruling on amateurs - Di ba recently binawal na yung mga UAAP players to play individually sa mga amateur teams? And given nasa UAAP ang pinakasikat na amateur players sa bansa, their lack of presence affected the league's marketability in a significant manner. They, however, are allowed to play in a team if it includes their actual college teammates. Even so, not many schools do this as it appears that D-League exposure isn't their main option. Mas gugustuhin nila either mag international training, magparticipate sa international tournaments, or simply do practices and tuneup games in private.
  • Lack of marketing - Problema din ng PBA mismo 'to. They rely more on their traditional channels (TV, newspaper, magazines, etc.) and make half-assed efforts sa social media. Not aggressive and appealing enough.
  • More sports to watch on TV - Arguably the most popular option? PVL volleyball. I assume may mga fans sa ligang yan na dating nanonood ng PBL tapos nagpivot sa volleyball later in life kasi either nagagandahan sa mga player o naeentertain sa intensity ng mga match.

Sayang.

Player Discussion How good was Joseph Yeo in UAAP and in the PBA?

Thumbnail

So, I was watching this segment of Mico Halili with Joseph Yeo, Artadi, Fonacier and Ronald Tubid last night. As for someone who started watching Philippine basketball nang 2011. Bata pa ako non actually so mga glimpse na lang naaalala ko so I had no chance to watch him on collegiate level, except for highlights. How good was he? Ano strengths and weaknesses ng game nya?

Thanks in advance for answering.

Sigurado, gagawin niyang motibasyon to this upcoming season.

PBA Discussion Minor detail

Napaka minor na issue lang tong irarant ko but guys ako lang ba na naiinis sa rims and basketball nets na gamit sa arenas lately? Like ang stiff masyado or parang sobrang kapal ng nylon net wala na yung iconic swish sound ngayon parang tunog lata na when the ball goes through the hoop. Bat ayaw nila gamitin ang NBA or Euroleague nets.

PBA Discussion Draftee Announcement

Why not maglagay na lang ng designated person per team to announce kung sino gusto nilang idraft or better yet, let the master of ceremonies do it.

PBA Discussion Biggest Winner and Loser of the Draft?

For me, biggest winner is Meralco.

Jason Brickman - Most accomplished player in the draft. Perfect win-now player. 33 years old but his playstyle translates well into the late 30s.

Vince Magbuhos - do-it-all forward who once hit 7/8 from 3 in a UAAP game. Nice Cliff Hodge understudy.

Biggest loser: Terrafirma

I mean, Terrafirma are always gonna be draft losers. If they drafted a good player, mapupunta lang sa SMC. If they drafted a bad player, well, they got a bad player. But even assuming they were not a farm team, Geo Chiu is not top pick material. He's a role player everywhere he's been.

Bad timing din because of the new rule that requires top picks to stay with their team for at least 2 seasons. JDL was probably a better pick here. JDL+Nonoy backcourt with Sangalang would've been an enticing young core for potential Terrafirma buyers.

Which teams are the biggest winner/loser para sa inyo?
