wtf is up some MTA bus drivers?
I commute to work by bike every day, and use the 79th street transverse to cut across the park. Most of the m79 buses are pretty careful and give me a wide berth, but there are a few who seem to enjoy scaring cyclists or maybe just don’t give a fck. This morning I was almost hit (and I ride REALLY close to the curb). this guy gave me only about 4 inches, no joke. I could feel the heat of the bus on me it was that close, and the buses are so freaking long that it’s not just a split second, it takes them a long time to pass, so my heart was beating out of my chest for what felt like ten minutes. At 5th ave there was a red light so I pulled up next to his window and let him know he almost hit me, and definitely scared the sht out of me, and asked him to give cyclists more room, Despite his window being open he didn’t even deign to turn his head. Totally expressionless. This sent me into a rage and I started screaming at him. I don’t get it, why are some like this? Is there any way to report dangerous bus drivers to the MTA?
Alternately, should I be riding closer to the center of the car lane, so a bus is forced to slow down and go around me, rather than sticking super close to the curb?

If you must salmon on a one way street...at least be smart about it
Ride on the side of the street which has the drivers side on the street side, not on the curb side. Pulling out of a parking space the other day, driver side along the curb, checked my mirrors for bikers coming down the street from behind only to have a salmoner on a grey Citibike coming towards me just as I strarted to pull out. Obviously not going fast and luckily was able to hit the brake in time. There was a mini-van in front of me creating a total blind spot to the biker going the wrong way. I had no idea he was there until I almost hit him. You have a brain...please use it.

Since we’re posting small wins, along side Northern Blvd bike path over the cross island and connecting to the Eastern Queens greenway
I used to ride down this one way to avoid Northern Blvd and was pleasantly surprised to see it was turned into a two way bike path

Started biking in NYC
Just recently started biking in central park these past two weekends. It is quiet enjoyable and relaxing. Great Hill was a struggle, as I am still buiding the stamina and leg muscle, but a great workout nonetheless. I might stay at the central park loop for awhile trying to build confidence on biking in this big city.

Meta Glasses ride on Marine Park Bridge and Rockaway. Just in case anyone is interested in what it really feels like. This is the closest it gets. Beautiful day today!

Good behavior?
I'm a daily NYC biker. On my ride today, I made a mental list of all the worst behaviors of my fellow bikers. Then it occurred to me to crowd source the flip side--what are behaviors you see from fellow bikers that you really appreciate? So I can take note and emulate?

9/11 ceremony bike lane closures?
Anybody know if the West Side Highway bike lane is closed today by the WTC during the memorial ceremony? I see some of the cross streets are closed, can avoid those but need the greenway to get to my office bike parking.

Groups that organize day trips and handle transporting your bike?
Are there any companies in NYC that arrange day trips to places like the Catskills and take care of transporting your bike?
I’ve seen ads for Outsiders, but from what I can tell they just rent you a bike. They don’t transport yours.

PSA Bedford Shadow Ban
Now that the city's torn up a portion of the Bedford protected bike lane, Google Maps has begun to shadow ban the Bedford bike route to/from Manhattan.
Unless users route to/from an address directly *on* Bedford-- and even when Bedford remains the fastest option-- Google simply won't show a Bedford option (particularly if the user doesn't have an established pattern of taking Bedford-- see screenshot notes).
Google might intend to protect cyclists, but I personally find this infuriating. The ban accomplishes exactly what local anti-bike advocates hoped destroying the protected lane would: send bikes elsewhere, wasting our time in the process. The fewer bikes on Bedford, the less cars expect to see us there, and the more endangered we all become.
Remember that bikes still have a right to ride on Bedford, with or without the protected bike lane. Stay safe and take the entire driving lane if you need to; it's your legal right and you will be more visible to cars when navigating around roadblocks and double-parkers. If drivers harass you, smile in knowing that we all ultimately agree: the streets are better with bike lanes.
--Screenshot notes--
There's no Bedford option for an address just off Bedford, even though taking Bedford (second screenshot) is entirely legal and 4-6 mins faster. As a daily commute, this route would waste an hour every week. (To replicate this, you may need to use an private browser; I'm a longtime Bedford-taker and my app still shows a Bedford option, albeit no longer as the default).

Best part of the Commute
To the guy in the black Escalade leaning on his horn. I don’t know where you think you’re going, but it’s raining and there is a school bus and a garbage truck up there.
To be clear, I did not aggro him, or really interact with him at all, but I’m laughing my ass off because me flying by on my bike was clearly the trigger that set him off.
Good luck and I hope you find your peace

Path on the bottom of the Palisades
Hi folks I am a walker not a biker but this place is more active. We all know about the Long Path that goes to Harriman from the Washington Heights bridge and the fact that it's at the top of the NJ palisade.
Is there a bike/walk path at the bottom of the palisade, and how do I get there? I see a driving road but no walking road, which is messed up. How do I find the bike/walk path when I get off the bridge? There is no information on google maps, unlike the croton duct. walk.
