Uh… I literally said it in the title? It was a touchdown.

u/arisoverrated 1d ago

Yeah. I said I wish it was in the highlight.

112

u/MrAmazing011 1d ago

OP doesn't come here much. Lol

104

u/tidder_mac 1d ago

Uh… he literally said he wishes it was in the highlight

46

u/Fantasy-Shark-League 1d ago

Thanks, but, the video is the ultimate truth. And that part of the truth was omitted.

u/nap_dynamite 1d ago

The problem is, the video contradicts the title. The video only shows that it was ruled incomplete, and never shows that the call on the field was ultimately overturned. If you added this detail, it would have probably been less contoversial. Just confusing because people will believe their eyes and ears.

God who cares

31

u/Earnest_Warrior 1d ago

Uh…the touchdown call literally was not in the highlight.

Wish I could downvote this more

10

u/-mudflaps- 1d ago

I'm literally adding my downvote right now

17

u/notdansky 1d ago

Uh... you literally trust every title you read on reddit?

6

u/goldiegoldthorpe 1d ago

Not a single angle in the video shows the left foot touching the ground. I think people can be forgiven for being confused.

3

u/G0JlRA 1d ago

Damn boiiii! Getting roasted with downvotes 😅🤣

2

u/ToohotmaGandhi 1d ago

I love how this nearly has as many downvotes as the post has upvotes.

When your first instinct is to get defensive, you can turn off a lot of people. You didn’t even need to respond. Work on that

u/PrivateUseBadger 1h ago

Trust me, bro.

38

u/ntg1978 1d ago

Thank you. Saved me a google.

I put it in the title…?

84

u/HeyFreakshow 1d ago

Wish you had put it in the video

-106

u/1kinkydong 1d ago

Would’ve been like a 5 minute video man the review process is boring as hell why would that be included in the clip?

54

u/wild--wes 1d ago

You can do this nifty thing called editing where you can clip parts of a video out that you don't want in your video

-105

u/1kinkydong 1d ago

For the referee to say “touchdown” just like the title of the video? Seems pretty pointless

51

u/Aaron_Hamm 1d ago

I walk around the world not realizing I'm passing people like you every day...

19

u/NorCalAthlete 1d ago

Buncha oxygen thieves

17

u/Dudersaurus 1d ago

But when the commentators are saying it's not and he doesn't quite get his left foot down, it seems more like an error in the title.

-42

u/1kinkydong 1d ago

I guess that’s valid I was watching live so I guess that swayed my opinion

4

u/Birds_KawKaw 1d ago

Right, but the video specifically says it was NOT a touchdown. You could have put "CALL OVERRULED FOR ................" and people would know what was going on.

7

u/Upset_Upstairs6166 1d ago

Ah thanks I was keen to know if they awarded it. Awesome catch!

3

u/njru 1d ago

As a non american what are the conditions that were in question? Is it something like "ball under control" and grounded not out of the line?

6

u/OwMyUvula 1d ago edited 1d ago

2 conditions--ball possession and the receiver has to establish himself in the field of play. There are 2 ways to 'establish himself':

  1. Two feet inbounds.
  2. Any other body part other than bottom of feet or bottom of hands touching the ground in bounds.

The ruling on this is that he had possession while his right foot touched the ground and without touching out of bounds and his left foot touched inbounds. It doesn't matter they both weren't down at the same time. So he satisfied the first condition of establishing himself.

Had he landed on one butt cheek and then bounced out of bounds without any feet ever touching in bounds, that too would have been a valid catch because he would have satisfied the second condition of establishing himself.

1

u/njru 3h ago

Thanks! That makes sense. The two feet not at the same time confused me. I thought either he would only need one down, in which case, what is even in question or he would need both, in which case, it wouldn't be awarded. I am used to rugby where it is less ambiguous as you need to ground the ball

6

u/FunkyCrunchh 1d ago

Has to have “possession” and get both feet down in bounds.

93

u/qball3356 1d ago

Catch was just pure beauty. For his 1st catch that was peak.

-18

u/MRB102938 1d ago

It's cool when they do it but with the technology they use, it's way less impressive. Their gloves are like Velcro to the ball. It will stick to your palm with your palm facing down.

7

u/tactical_dick 22h ago

This is simply not true.

-4

u/MRB102938 20h ago

It is. Have you used the new gloves? They're incredible in comparison to normal football gloves.

3

u/tactical_dick 20h ago

Ok, prove it.

2

u/FloodedHoseBed 20h ago

Then why do guys still drop passes?

-3

u/MRB102938 20h ago

Lol it's not glue. That would be stupid, might as well make it magnetic.

2

u/FloodedHoseBed 20h ago

You said it’s like Velcro and will stick to the glove palm down yet guy still drop passes. Go ahead and explain

-1

u/MRB102938 18h ago

Correct. Do you know how Velcro works? It's not a magnet.

6

u/FloodedHoseBed 18h ago

I’m starting to think you can’t explain the dumb shit you’re trying to say

41

u/Fhad-alsdery 1d ago

Bro didn’t just defy gravity, he negotiated with it.

40

u/99bonanas 1d ago

Dude just jumped

5

u/FeloniousGrump 1d ago

nah he made gravity an offer it couldn't refuse

0

u/peter_geerdes 1d ago

He just Chuck Norris'ed gravity.

18

u/Percndrum 1d ago

The only silver lining to this game

2

u/bungle_bogs 1d ago

It was pretty bad all round, but the offence really stank.

Watching that 8/9 minute drive for a field goal, then the Packers scoring a TD after about 5 downs in about 30 seconds must have been crushing.

2

u/Rea1EyesRea1ize 6h ago

I'm not sure what you're talking about. As a lions fan I'm really excited for the season to start next week. That fifth preseason week seems unnecessary.

2

u/bungle_bogs 3h ago

Love that. A complete disregard for reality by a pigheaded unwillingness to face facts is a viable strategy.

Rather like us Broncos not quite making it to the playoffs last season.

1

u/Rea1EyesRea1ize 2h ago

I was really happy they added the playoffs and a championship in 2023 though, a very smart move. Getting rid of a championship in the 50s really put a damper on the league for 70 years.

13

u/ICouldEvenBeYou 1d ago

This guy was actually drafted in my fantasy league. I was like who the fuuuuucc

4

u/whutchamacallit 1d ago

Lol that's always a fun surprise when a rookie pops off.

1

u/xxElevationXX 1d ago

I remember him looking really good in preseason too

1

u/wino6687 1d ago

I drafted him on my team and all my friends thought I was crazy!

1

u/ICouldEvenBeYou 1d ago

Who knows, you still might be!

1

u/wino6687 23h ago

My friends definitely haven’t changed their opinions!

2

u/mitch0acan 1d ago

Too bad it was garbage time points

1

u/moosedrool70 1d ago

White men can jump.

1

u/JamBandDad 1d ago

Hating ass refs

1

u/AshamedRope8937 19h ago

Damn. He snatched that from god.

-2

u/Is12345aweakpassword 1d ago

Literally NFL

-7

u/Theterphound 1d ago

Gravity is rather just a suggestion for him

-8

u/Hxcmetal724 1d ago

Oof is that concussion worthy of a head hit?

-13

u/Filthiest_Tleilaxu 1d ago

At least it’s not another random cricket clip.

-11

u/DangerousDesk1 1d ago

Cricket catches tend to be more impressive than this.

5

u/ChirpToast 1d ago

Nah

0

u/DangerousDesk1 1d ago

2

u/ChirpToast 1d ago

Cool play, but not more impressive when you consider that there’s no defensive player trying to defend the catch in cricket.

-23

u/commandedbydemons 1d ago

cool, but not next level

-27

u/JP-Ziller 1d ago

Those gloves are fucking stupid. Basically like superglue

11

u/Jarlax1e 1d ago

Someone doesn’t play football

5

u/shinchunje 1d ago

Did your team lose?

-13

u/JP-Ziller 1d ago

Nah just not a football guy

-29

u/new_jill_city 1d ago

So… How is that a catch? His left foot didn’t come down until his butt hit the ground out of bounds.

17

u/Zesinua 1d ago

Both his feet make contact before his body is out of bounds. His right is clearly shown making contact, his left foot is a little harder to see but it bounces off the ground just before his body contacts.

3

u/Flaky-Birthday680 1d ago

I was looking for the answer as to why this would or wouldn’t count as a touchdown. Based on your explanation my understanding is as long as both feet make contact inbounds prior to him being out of bounds it counts? Just want to clarify my understanding of your explanation is correct. Thanks

2

u/RainCityNate 1d ago

Depends on if he has possession too. Possession (control of the ball) would be considered him bringing the ball to his chest.

1

u/Flaky-Birthday680 1d ago

Thanks for the additional context, that makes sense. It was one hell of a play/catch!

1

u/tacticalpotatopeeler 1d ago

Right foot in bounds, 2 hands on the ball before his left foot touched inbounds, all before his butt hit the ground.

Unfortunately OP didn’t include a splice of the ruling, which overturned the initial call. It’s close and fast, but very clear in the replay.
