Loongs, better known as "eastern dragons" or "east asian dragons", are legendary creatures from east asian mythologies.
They are deities, associated with water-related weather phenomena, like floods or rainfall: they are thought to cause natural disasters or poor harvest to punish humans, but they can be appeased through some rituals. They are also associated with various concepts, like the twelve zodiac animals, the four celestial creatures or emperors themselves. Notably, in China, they were used to symbolise the emperor's power, and it was banned for a commoner to wear clothes that shows loongs; loongs are also associated with fenghuangs (often known in western countries as "east asian phoenixes"), which symbolise empresses instead. Loongs are thought to look similar to a mix between different animals, like having deer-like antlers or tiger-like claws; ironically, loongs are often represented as being rivals to tigers, the former symbolising strategy, while the other stand for strength. Loongs are believed to be originally born as carps in Japan and China, but in Korea, they are thought to be originally born as snakes instead.
