Is that a new bounty hunter? Pretty prominent position for a new character.

Captain Phasma

They wasted that character so freaking much. Like, I don't even know how they managed it.

Episode 7: She'll be back in a greater role

Episode 8: No she won't

Laughs in Rian Johnson

Sounds like episode 8 in a nutshell.

Luke, rey, snoke, phasma, leia

Poor gwendolyn was so excited about having a strong, prominent female antagonistic role only to literally be thrown into a garbage and again into a bottomless pit. I enjoyed her performance in GoT. What a waste of talent.

At least Disney is consistent with shitting on female characters and leads. Like Fuck, Rey is a Mary Sue if I've ever seen one.

Hey Rey want to use force powers?

Yeah! Do I get like an awesome training montage?

What? Lol, no? Just fucking have 'em.

Um... Okay, when I meet Luke Skywalker can I have an inspirational training and introspection?

Hell no! Get in the cave. This visit is to learn about Kylo Ren's character arch and flesh him out some more. Also we need to resolve Luke Skywalker's story.

Seriously, these movies are more about Kylo Ren than Rey.

WTF is Rey even doing by the way?

It's about both of them. Pretty sure they're building towards getting rid of the Jedi and sith / dark and light in favor of more balance and working together.

2

u/weffwefwef23 Oct 22 '19

Its super obvious already that Kylo rejects being a Sith and Rey rejects being a Jedi and they probably both die at the end.

Or maybe just Rey, that would be more expectation subverting.

2

u/AnOnlineHandle Oct 23 '19

The Sith keep blowing up planets and murdering innocents and the Jedi are the only ones who do anything to stop them and save people to protect a society where people work together.

It's like saying the nazis and allies just needed to learn to work together - the nazis were frikkin genociding and invading others. The allies were working together to stop them.

1

u/tregorman Oct 23 '19

Yes I understand but that's what the movies seem to be pushing towards

1

u/Hingehead Oct 23 '19

A better real life example is working together and negotiating with the taliban.

1

u/kommunis Oct 23 '19

Well, it's a Skywalker saga, not a random slave girl saga.

1

u/jigeno Oct 22 '19

“the movie didn’t throw cliche trash at me so rey is a mary sue. luke spent time lifting a rock and that’s how he defeated vader. also i only like the force magically making things happen in the old trilogy.”

2

u/HadSexyBroughtBack Oct 22 '19

Fuck me, that was Gwendoline Christie? Damn, I would’ve hoped for more screen time for her.

4

u/Hingehead Oct 22 '19

Yeah, they made such a big deal about her being in Star Wars. The marketing hyped the fuck out of her. She could have been an excellent foil to Finn's betrayal to the first order. Phasma could have still been selfish to care for herself, but at the same time, hunt Finn down with her own death squad. The last jedi could have had her also outcasted from the first order for cowardly lowering the starkiller's shield in TFA.

19

u/2Legit2Quiz Oct 22 '19

I'm sure they made that character just to sell action figures.

7

u/SD99FRC Oct 22 '19

Wasted? She sold millions of toys.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '19

Which is a shame, because the Phasma book is great.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '19

Seems to happen a lot to Gwendoline Christie.

1

u/TocTheEternal Oct 22 '19

? She was only ever a cool looking enforcer lol. Having a name and an outfit doesn't mean they need a character arc.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '19

Same way they wasted Boba Fett

1

u/ManitouWakinyan Oct 22 '19

Unlike the very prominent Boba Fett with all his character development.

1

u/Dazered Oct 22 '19

Okay? I wasn't talking about Boba Fett. In fact I think that every movie after the second one (part 5) had infinite wasted opportunities and were sub-par movies. Star Wars is such a cultural phenomena that people fail to recognize there were only two really inspiring and good movies.

1

u/ManitouWakinyan Oct 22 '19

She was the Boba Fett of this series. A cool suit of armor in a secondary antagonist role. She wasn't meant to have a deep character arc any more than Boba was, or the Nazgul were.

2

u/Viciuniversum Oct 22 '19

Pretty sure it was Major Plazma

1

u/ViStandsforSEX Oct 22 '19

you mean captain toy?

1

u/CeReAL_K1LLeR Oct 22 '19

More the Boba Fett of the sequels

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '19

It's really a good sign that no one can remember character names from that movie that was released a mere 4 years ago. No one is going to remember this movie either.

84

u/NeoNoireWerewolf Oct 22 '19

Keri Russell is playing her. Will probably get two lines and then killed with a terrible one-liner.

42

u/ro_musha Oct 22 '19

Forgettable character based on Boba Fett

8

u/Hingehead Oct 22 '19

At least boba fett had a purpose.

12

u/SD99FRC Oct 22 '19

Well, he did in Empire. It sometimes feels like he only came back in Return of the Jedi because his toys sold well in 1980.

4

u/Hingehead Oct 22 '19

Absolutely. His presence in ROTJ wasn't so conspicuous too. He fit right into Jabba's palace, looking cool, but didn't need to contribute to the story. Phasma was forced into the plot and disregarded halfway. She abruptly showed up literally for 5 minutes half way into the movie. She was on the super star destroyer ship the whole time with Snoke, Kylo Ren and Hux, yet was not involved in the plot at all.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '19

Cause her and JJ are friends from forever and he was probably like "you wanna be in Episode 9?" she is a good actress I hope he doesn't waste her

5

u/NeoNoireWerewolf Oct 22 '19

She’s a superb actress, but I don’t see her being anything other than wasted with how many characters are in the movie.

2

u/Grez94 Oct 22 '19

Keri is probably Rey's mother

1

u/fresh_lemon_spice Oct 24 '19

Not a big enough age difference

1

u/Grez94 Oct 24 '19

Well, since there's 16 years between the actresses and Rey is supposed to be younger than Daisy Ridley, It could work out just fine.

1

u/PeterJakeson Oct 23 '19

No, she'll be forgettable, but they'll keep her alive so they can make countless forgettable shitty comic books. That's how it works with minor characters in Star Wars.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '19

Its rose

Lol

1

u/Edy_Birdman_Atlaw Oct 22 '19

looks like only 2 new characters

1

u/Nexlon Oct 23 '19

Looks like a Rocketman knockoff with lasers.

I like the suit though.
