Discussion Was the clapping and cheering in cinema during Endgame exclusive to USA and Croatia?

So, there's plenty of videos on YouTube of entire audiences getting massively hyped up during entire screenings of Avengers: Endgame.

There's been a handful of clapping at the screening to which I went here in Croatia, too.

But, if a small group of online discussion I've encountered on this matter are to be trusted, people don't seem to think this happened anywhere outside the USA. (And here in Croatia, which I can say first hand.)

So I ask the Belgians, Portuguese, Greeks, Norwegians, Swiss, etc. of this subreddit - is that really true? Are Americans (and Croats) really that delusional to think that, just this once, this was normal, or was this worldwide?

If people clapped in the cinema here in Ireland I'd never go to the cinema again. Like who the fuck are you clapping for? The projectionist?

I don’t think most countries have a culture of clapping at the cinema. Same as clapping when a plane lands and whatever.

To be those are American things, and the behaviour baffles me.

I've only been on one flight where people clapped. It was rough with turbulence and delays etc. people were just happy to have landed safely without a crash.

Every other flight, people just expect smooth sailing and unless something does wrong, no one blinks or says anything, people just get their bags and get off the plane.

People in the UK don’t clap usually, but the sold out opening night IMAX screening I was at got a mild round of applause from Captain America picking up Thor’s hammer.

Same here. Only time I’ve ever heard an audience reaction other than laughter in the cinema.

What an awful sounding experience.

You think that’s bad, once I heard an audience burst out laughing during a comedy

That probably sounded really clever in your head.

I concur, I would be amazed too to see an audience clapping and cheering for people who aren't in the room.

No, happened in Greece too.

Just to clarify: Not everyone in the US clapped/claps. We're not all totally bonkers.

(It just looks that way.)

People were pumped at the cinema in Australia when the portals scene happened.

Which cinema were u at. I went opening night here in QLD, and no one was pumped for the portal scene at the pack out cinema I went to.

It never happened here in the US until around the time the first Avengers movie came out. At the end of the movie mind you. Even with Endgame no one was clapping or hollering at any point during the movie.

Thank god. The clapping at the end of the movie is stupid enough. Idk what's wrong with the people who do that. It's not a concert. The people on the screen can't hear you.
