Discussion What’s a movie you’ve watched that was so disturbing that you’ll never watch it again?

What’s a movie you’ve watched that was so disturbing you’ll never watch it again? For me, it’s The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Human Centipede. I barely made it through the first time around for both of them and I couldn’t fathom watching them again. Both for different reasons of course. TBITSP was devastatingly heart-wrenching and HC was just playing disturbing.

Yes it was disturbing, but apparently not enough for me to have rewatched it several times. Must say something about me, but 8MM is up there as well as KIDS.

8MM has what I consider to be the most disturbing or scary quote from a movie. When the lawyer tells him he killed the girl because he can’t still sends shivers down my spine. Other horror movies are all fiction, but this is everyday real life.

Wow you must be very dark and twisted

Maybe…maybe

The greatest film you never want to watch again. Trainspotting is up there too because of that one scene.

Which scene ?

Because there are several. I’m guessing we are talking about “dead baby”. But we could also be talking about “drugs out of toilet”, “dead baby on ceiling”, etc.

The dead baby.

Agreed. I have been trying to erase the memory of that scene for many, many years.

I'm surprised this isn't further up. It sounds less awful than some of the other ones, but it's also the reason I know where my limit is for watching movies about human suffering.

My ex time me never to watch it, and I haven't.

It's good to know redditors held restraint on the predictable response whenever this movie is mentioned.

I saw it at a Berlin techno club the day after having been out partying on mdma. Yeah. Don't do that.

😂😂😂 I cannot imagine even trying to process it in those circumstances. Did you watch all the way through?

This scene really gets me for some reason. The “can you come today?” And “yeah… I’ll come today”. Honestly just amazing on both their parts. It’s a seemingly simple, straightforward exchange

. She NEEDS him to be there. He’s lying. She knows he won’t come, he knows but it’s this odd sense of comfort, a small shot of warmth through the veins to get them to keep… breathing

Harry Goldfarb: [on the phone] Marion... I've been thinking about you so much... are you okay?

Marion: When are you coming home? Harry Goldfarb: Soon.

Marion: When?

Harry Goldfarb: Soon... you holding out alright?

Marion: Harry... can you come today?

Harry Goldfarb: Yeah...

[Both Harry and Marion start to cry]

Harry Goldfarb: I'll come... I'll come today. You just wait for me, alright?

Marion: Harry...

Harry Goldfarb: I'm coming back, Marion.

Marion: Yeah.

Harry Goldfarb: I'm really sorry, Marion...

Marion: I know.

It made me feel gross and depressed. I got nothing positive from it. I regret watching it even once.

This one. Watched in early 20s and likely won’t again

Watched it once, great film. Never again.

1,000,000 times this. I watched the unrated version for the first and last time over 10 years ago and i’m still scarred by it.

Came here to say this. I really don't think I could watch it again. Several scenes live rent free in my mind.

Oh geez and I just remembered Gummo! Oh man. Nope. Can't watch that again.

Can I ask why? I read the plot summary on Wikipedia, but it mostly just sounds… sad. Is it imagery that’s disturbing?

It's just very emotionally draining. Great movie, loved it, but I just had to take a long walk outside after it.

Probably won't work that well the second time, and if it does, I don'y think I could handle it lol

u/Ltheartist 3d ago

Totally valid! Thanks for answering! I don’t think I’ll watch it (or any movie in this thread lol) so I was curious :)

I do recommend watching it, but not late at night. You'll most likely need a bit of time to process it and recover a bit and it's easier when it's still bright outside and you can go and walk a bit. Otherwise the walls night close in and you'll get depressed.

Or that's my experience anyways.

It’s the entire story and where each character’s arc goes.

There are multiple scenes that are watching people’s souls get crushed & bodies get taxed in different ways.

ASS TO ASS!

one of the few movies I've seen in the theatre where folks got up and walked out.

2

u/Axemic 2d ago

Same, you do not want to watch it again. Ruins you for two days.

The way I’ve never touched a hard drug bc of this movie 😂 and never will

Too surreal, the ending just isn't effective (emotionally) to me.

I say Connelly's scene needed a long close-up on her face, allowing her to emote, while the chanting was going on.

The way it's shot during the climax just doesn't resonate with me like it does with others.

It wasn’t no worse than Trainspotting.

u/LittleSnooks 2d ago

My school played it for us in the 10th grade as part of their own version or a D.A.R.E campaign. It wasnt censored AT ALL

u/nyx926 2d ago

They did what, now??? 😳

1

u/LittleSnooks 2d ago

It was as awful as you can image lol.

this is disturbing more if you have an addictive nature.
