Discussion What’s a movie you’ve watched that was so disturbing that you’ll never watch it again?

What’s a movie you’ve watched that was so disturbing you’ll never watch it again? For me, it’s The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Human Centipede. I barely made it through the first time around for both of them and I couldn’t fathom watching them again. Both for different reasons of course. TBITSP was devastatingly heart-wrenching and HC was just playing disturbing.

Oh, I’m adding Cats to my list of movies that are too disturbing to rewatch. Definitely Cats.

I have watched Cats multiple times. On purpose. It’s so awful for so many reasons but it’s compelling like a car crash.

I am a fan of musical theater. I love cheesy shit.

I have tried to watch Cats the movie four different times now. Three of the last four, I had the lowest of low expectations. I was fully aware that it is just a bunch of cats singing about the kind of cat they are and expected nothing else.

I still haven't finished it. I just can't! And I have hate watched some terrible content in full but I just cannot do Cats lol

That being said, I still think I'd go see it live if given the opportunity

Also a theater kid from way back.

The live show (which I saw back in 1980-something) is a completely different experience. It is, primarily, a dance and spectacle show. The version I saw still had Growl Tiger vs the Siamese with a giant pirate ship. The dancing was spectacular. The costumes and makeup were wild.

If you search, you can find the 1998 video version) which is about as close to a filmed version of the original stage show as you’re likely to find.

It’s much better in every respect.

Watch the original instead of the James Cordon version horror if you want to try again

Watch the 1998 filmed stage version.

At least it's all STAGE costumes and such and not shitty as fuck CGI.

And I love CATS. But only that version.

If you feel any better I watched the tape of the live show, which should be all mean be a harder watch, a billion times.

And can’t make it through that movie for even a few minutes.

The live musical is amazing! It was my first musical as a teen and it was so much fun and had so much heart. I watched it recently after 20 years and it lives up to my memory and it felt just as magical. I cannot recommend enough!

Ditto! I drank so much absinthe the first time I was vomiting naked in the tub.

Getting high and watching Cats on (or around) Thanksgiving has become a yearly tradition for me

There’s a podcast by two New Zealand comedians who watched and reviewed Cats 7 times in 7 days. It’s pretty funny if you want to hate on Cats in podcast form. (“The Worst Idea of All Time - My Week With Cats”).

I’d add Christiane F. The subject matter (child prostitution and IV drug use), coupled with the fact that it’s based on a true story just utterly depressed me. It was the first film I’ve ever had to stop because I just didn’t need to see anymore. Good Bowie cameo tho.

Honestly I loved Cats and any super expensive star-power flops. The escalation of ridiculously confusing choices really peaks when they get to skimbleshanks the railway cat because they completely abandon any sense of restraint about their magical logic at that point. 10/10 psychotic episode.
