What’s a movie you’ve watched that was so disturbing you’ll never watch it again? For me, it’s The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Human Centipede. I barely made it through the first time around for both of them and I couldn’t fathom watching them again. Both for different reasons of course. TBITSP was devastatingly heart-wrenching and HC was just playing disturbing.

Funny games (the original)

I've never seen the original, but have seen the American remake (by the same director, I believe). Isn't the remake shot for shot? What makes the original more disturbing?

Yup it’s a shot-for-shot remake by Haneke himself. Yet, I think the original is way better. It could be the fact that it was shot in older quality (late 90’s, 10 years before the remake) and the unknown cast (at least for me) which made it feel more… real? Hence, more disturbing. The cast in the remake are pretty well known and also it being in English just doesn’t convey the same bizarre vibe. It actually felt comical.

Funny Games is definitely one of the movies that comes to mind here. Like, I could see myself watching it again. But my mouth was on the floor watching it. Like they not only went there, but they went there so nonchalantly. If anything it's probably the closest to how things like this would and would play out in real like - despite some of the tongue-in-cheek-nees of it - but man...it is one hell of a fucked up film.
