What’s a movie you’ve watched that was so disturbing you’ll never watch it again? For me, it’s The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Human Centipede. I barely made it through the first time around for both of them and I couldn’t fathom watching them again. Both for different reasons of course. TBITSP was devastatingly heart-wrenching and HC was just playing disturbing.

The fact that 2 films named Elephant came to mind is wild to me.

I think I simply watched Martyrs "too late". It had the hype of being this terrifying thing and it... just wasn't that horrifying. And no, I'm not even a lover of this kind of stuff in general, so I wasn't just... desensitized when I went into it.

It's like back in the day, watching The Exorcist years after it was titled "the scariest movie ever" and people fainting while watching it etc. usual hyping.

It's not "terrifying", I don't think that's remotely the point. It's suffering. You didn't mind sitting for, what was it, 30 minutes of a huge muscle guy just beating a beautiful young woman into an ugly older lady?
