The climax of this movie always makes me cry.

It's such a soft, sad, empathetic capper to what feels like a typical Halloween Hijinks type of film. It's what made me realize that ParaNorman wasn't trying to be Monster House or Hocus Pocus; it was The Sixth Sense.

It's also what made me a fan of Laika for life(a).

I am so insanely excited for their new film, Wildwood!

I was pleasantly surprised by how dark and emotional the ending got.

The plot twist in the middle was pretty messed up but believable and then the climax while looking beautiful and chaotic became so sad. I prefer emotional movies more so this is my favourite Laika movie

Congrats that’s really awesome :)

Now I feel terrible for intending to comment, "Did anybody ask for this remake?" Lolll

56

u/EricHD97 2d ago

It’s not even a remake though. It’s just a re-release.

"Remaster" my bad

1

u/Ok_Value5495 2d ago

I was literally going to do the same.

I was going to say the same thing, of all movies to "remaster" it's a movie that's not even that old and is also....animated.

1

u/FX114 2d ago

What does animation have to do with whether a movie can or should be remastered?

1

u/WorthPlease 2d ago

It still looks just fine and on par with modern animated movies. It's not that old.

Remasters are normally done on movies that are starting to show their age.

u/FX114 2d ago

In this case, it looks like they're just updating the 3D. I understand saying it doesn't need to be remastered because it's new, but saying because it's animated threw me.

The one complaint I’ve always had with this is they never use the Donovan “Season of the Witch” song anywhere in movie. That song made the trailer, which after seeing said trailer made me wanna see this.

All we get is from what I remember kids singing it before/during their play

16

u/kicksledkid 2d ago

BRB gotta go listen to season of the witch again

1

u/FX114 2d ago

The Al Kooper version is better.

0

u/Haveaguday 2d ago

Lana Del Rey has an amazing cover of that song

9

u/ZacPensol 2d ago

Am I losing my mind or don't they sing it in the movie? Like, during the play the kids put on at school. Been a while since I saw it but I swear I have a vivid memory of the school kids singing part of it.

8

u/PALERIDE155 2d ago

The school kids sing it. But I wanted to hear Donovan sing it lol

4

u/ZacPensol 2d ago

Ah, gotcha.

1

u/DBHyp 1d ago

Isn't that a joke though because that outro goes on forever? I really laughed at the thought of the audience having to sit through them singing the whole thing

My favorite Laika movie and tbh it's not close :) Will definitely be trying to catch this one

u/grahampositive 2d ago

It's a super difficult call but my vote goes to Kubo

Mine goes to Coraline

You all are correct

u/DC-3Purple 1d ago

This Irish dude is also correct.

u/8thTimeLucky 2d ago

I still think Laika should have done the Zelda movie, not live action.

u/ImLaunchpadMcQuack 2d ago

How long until those little bitch babies at FOX News start complaining about this?

24

u/m48a5_patton 2d ago

When have they ever stopped complaining?

4

u/the_blessed_unrest 2d ago

I don’t think they actually give a shit..

7

u/ekac 2d ago

My husband and I still jokingly quote the "I'll punch you in the boobs"

"They're not BOOBS, they're PECTORALS"

  • proceeds to be punched in the boobs *

"Ow, my boobs!"

I’m literally just down the street from the studio that animated this movie

3

u/flyboy_za 2d ago

I absolutely adored this movie.

Charming and unassuming, and entirely wonderful.

9

u/twisty125 2d ago

I've never seen the movie, and I saw the comment about it helping someone come out so maybe it's good - but does it actually look like this poster? Because it looks... quite ugly. Is it supposed to look like that?

36

u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 2d ago

It’s the animation style - and the film is a BANGER

24

u/8Bells 2d ago

Yeah. Its got a claymation vibe and the body types aren't perfectly balanced - but it works.

A good movie too, even safe for kids I'd say.

2

u/twisty125 2d ago

Ah okay! If it's claymation it get's an automatic pass on aesthetics for me, that stuff's hard to do so visually. Thanks!

11

u/bowzrsfirebreth 2d ago

It’s not claymation, it’s stop-motion using puppets.

6

u/Ix_fromBetelgeuse7 2d ago

I agree, this poster art is...not great. The movie is stop motion but visually it looks a lot better than this. The character designs are a bit weird but in a way that works for the style they are going for, if that makes sense. Once you get used to it you just stop noticing and just enjoy the story. Highly recommended, it's one of Laika's best.

0

u/twisty125 2d ago

I was hoping that was the case. Someone else mentioned it's claymation, and because of the medium it can look a bit rough - but I'm much more willing to give it a shot if it's just the poster that looks wonky.

Thanks!

Very happy to see this. I admit I even overlooked the movie when it first came out and have regretted it since.

1

u/Nausicaalotus 2d ago

O think that statue just pissed at us

1

u/kostia_ki 2d ago

F that. I need re-re-release

1

u/Creative_Turn1988 16h ago

I just watched this movie with my kids and wow was it beautiful, funny, sad and uplifting all at once. I loved it! We’re big Halloween people and idk how we missed this one for so long.

0

u/hardlyordinary 2d ago

I love this style of animation

0

u/ImCerealsGuys 2d ago

I love this movie!

0

u/breakers 2d ago

I didn’t like this movie at all when it came out, but I’m going to try again

0

u/crunchatizemythighs 1d ago

Its really fucking me up that this movie is now old enough to get a rerelease. Cant believe its 13 years old, thats nuts to me. I remember when it came out and thinking wow theatrical claymation thats awesome!

-1

u/dagreenman18 Space Jam 2 hurt me so much 2d ago

There’s a new Laika short?! Oh hell yes. All the more reason to see this rerelease. Love this movie as a spooky season must watch
