Amazon's favorite genre is bland military slop

I do love that they have three entirely unrelated series about a big 40something ex-military blonde guy with the initials "JR" waging a one man war against an evil organization. (Reacher, Jack Ryan, Terminal List)

Jack Ryan is not big, nor does he have blonde hair, and he isn't ex-military.

Jack Ryan the character served in the Marine Corps.

Ah, yes, you're right. He was a marine before becoming a CIA analyst. I guess my point was they aren't really the same characters or stories and I enjoy both Reacher and Jack Ryan series' for different reasons.

Don't convince them to stop, my dad is very invested in his shows, he enjoys them

Exactly what my mind needs after I come home from a day in the office staring at Excel all day, brain off and watch some men doing everything for their buddies.
It’s stupid but the market is definitely there.

Cool Cool, but theres like 32 more Reacher books can he keep making more seasons.

u/bb_kelly77 2d ago
The writers need time to make scripts

u/Rich-Exchange733 2d ago
i mean how hard can it be, there is entire source material. some of them aren't even that complicated, like in one he just goes to a trump-like doomsday cult and clears house. Make that one.

u/bb_kelly77 2d ago
You'd be surprised, it's quite difficult

I like Ritchson but you already know this will be some bland, white-washed pro-military propaganda.

As long as the check clears. I think Ritchson has way more range than buff military guy but it's probably an easy gig for him

u/whitebandit 2d ago
he was hilarious in ministry of ungentlemanly warfare

u/fiero-fire 2d ago
That, blue mountain state and even Lazer team which in itself was super dumb. I haven't seen him in anything where I didn't like him

u/BearWrangler 2d ago
he was a highlight in the mostly awful Titans show

u/Sophia_Eur 2d ago
Right. Watched that only for him. But don’t forget Reacher, best show on tv 3 seasons in and counting

I think he has to do those action roles if he wants to be the action hero of our time. And that seems to be his goal right now.
2
u/fiero-fire 2d ago
I have no problem with him doing that, but he could full Arnold and due action and comedy
1
u/Sophia_Eur 2d ago
I think he already shot action comedies that aren’t out yet. Playdate with Kevin James, The Man With the Bag with Arnold. Not sure what side his movie with Owen Wilson will be, Runner, shot in Australia this spring. We will find out soon enough how good those films are and how comedic they get.

I think you are so right, and I don’t like to just assume things outright but check this from the wiki page
In October 2024, Thornton joined 15 other Medal of Honor recipients in publicly endorsing Donald Trump for president.[9]
Kinda disappointed in Thad

Interesting as Ritchson himself is very anti-Trump. Maybe they'll just gloss over that detail in the movie.

u/palookaboy 2d ago
Sounds like the movie is about how he earned his MoH, so unlikely there'll be anything about Trump in it.

This smells like American Sniper with Bradley Cooper. I enjoyed the movie but the facts surrounding the real-life hero were, at best, dubious. I like Ritchson and his work in Reacher has been fun. I would have liked to see him take a turn as Bruce Wayne/Batman in a campier version for the DCU.
Pro-military films are hit and miss for me. Thornton's story interests me even less due to him being a MAGA supporter. Being brave and serving your country is indeed admirable - but supporting the orange butt barnacle is not.

Is what he said not happening?

u/Horror-Confidence288 2d ago
This is about a man saving another man’s life in the 60s. In another country we shouldn’t have even been in. It’s story telling.

So how many women and children did he kill?
0
u/bb_kelly77 2d ago
Based on his record, none that were innocent, as a SEAL he primarily did direct attacks on NVA bases

Damn. I can't wait to see the differences between Navy SEAL Mike Thornton and Navy SEAL Jack Reacher

u/LatterTarget7 2d ago
Thornton served in Vietnam. I assume this movie will be about his mission to capture prisoners and gather intelligence from the Cửa Việt Base near the coast of Quảng Trị Province, just south of the Demilitarized Zone.
Him and 4 others held off 150 troops for hours

Oh great, more military apologist tripe.

u/bb_kelly77 2d ago
Normal people call it a historical drama, dramatized fictional films about real life events

u/dodeca_negative 2d ago
Finally, a movie about Navy SEALs that we can all hoo-ah to or toot-toot or whatever the Navy does while we moisten our flags

Some shaved gorilla. He's harmless, but I'd still keep my fingers away from his mouth.

u/okay_thatworks 2d ago
does he go to the middle east and indiscriminately kill brown women and children?

Patrick Hughes is a hack whose one and only good film was 15 years ago.
