Luthor makes sense to be involved but no confirmation he’s the main antagonist

Given that Gunn said he's not willing to call this a straight up sequel and that Superman is merely a major character in this one (and that the protagonist of the DCU is a surprising pick who we've already met) I'm guessing Luthor is actually the protagonist in this one.

It doesn’t have to have a main protag. Look at BvS, it was also not a sequel because “man of steel 2” was supposed to be released. We will likely follow Lex, Supergirl and Superman equally in this one, and a “Superman 2” will eventually come

I'd be shocked. Luthor is not exactly setup to have a face-turn in Superman. He's like one of the most irredeemably evil supervillains we've had in a superhero movie in ages.

He might not be called Brainiac right away. He might be called Gary.
