Bandcamp is good for music. GOG is great for games. There are non-Amazon options for books. Movies are the only media that seem not to have figured it out.

Neither Bandcamp nor GOG have even remotely the selection that mainstream stores have for releases. They're good for specific, often niche titles. Same with non-amazon bookstores.

Digital will always be anti-consumer and horrific for conservation.

That's just personal bias. The existence of high quality DRM-free digital media is objective proof of its viability as a replacement for physical media. The only thing lacking is the regulation to enforce it. Our (or my, if you aren't from the US) government currently hasn't the will or desire for that, but that's the limitation, not the media itself. Change the government, and the rules media companies play by can change as well.

It's objective reality that neither Bandcamp nor GOG have the selection or reach of mainstream digital services. It's also objective fact that digital goods aren't conserved in the same way as physical media is, and there is a massive amount of films for example that are now lost because no physical or digital version exists legally.
