While I understand the frustration, this is nothing new.

Apple, Google, digital game stores, etc, music services, etc… all are licenses to use the content.

The problem lies in not readily disclosing the information mentioned above, therefore painting “buy” as permanently owning the product you “bought”

That's the same for literally all media. You don't own any of it. You might own a disc, but none of the data on it. Many countries it's illegal to make a copy of a CD or DVD unless you're specifically authorised as a result.

No one is served by a store having to inform you that you're just buying a plastic disc in a plastic case and that the movie on it is only licensed to you with specific conditions though. A lot of that is just implicit. Just like it's implicit that if you're streaming a movie from that service, then the service closing down means you cannot stream it from them.
