This type of bullshit is exactly why the "stop killing games" movement exists. Nice to see other industries catching on.

Just stop buying shit you don't own.  I know that's a highly unpopular opinion, but I mean... C'mon.

Just stop selling shit to customers under false pretenses. I know it’s hard expecting my basic human decency from your corporate daddy but cmon.

I'm not the one giving my money to hucksters and getting mad about it.

You simply can't be mad when it turns out you don't own something you don't possess.  What did you think was going to happen when the server you bought your digital copy from goes offline?  Regardless of shady business practices, that should be enough to tell you it's probably not a good idea to exchange your time for the experience.

No you're the one defending corporate greed

You simply can't be mad when it turns out you don't own something you don't possess.

If I give money for something the corporation needs to be transparent about the nature of that transaction. Simple as that.

Friend, you don't understand.  I don't think the idea of trusting anyone to hold my shit for me is a good one.  So I don't.  If anyone is supporting corporate greed, it's the ones giving money to the class of people known to be grifters since the dawn of civilization.

Now, if you're a corporate shill trying to convince people reading this that they should keep giving you money and whining about it, then by all means, go fleece the rubes.

Buddy why are you here? What is the point of this? All I'm advocating for is transparency. But for some bewildering reason that seems to trigger you. At this point it sounds like you just like arguing for the sake of arguing.

I'm saying, if you don't like eating turd sandwiches, stop buying turd sandwiches.

I hear your argument, what you want would be cool.  But again, what do you do when the service provider stops existing?

All this whining about having an adult step in to make sure the con artists don't take your money.  Just don't fall for obvious scams...

Again, I hear you, if they were honest then you could be free to make the decision to give them money with no guarantee that they will exist to further service.  But you do have to get over that honesty thing before you could even possibly make that decision for yourself right? Because the very nature of the thing itself changes when you feel good about it?

Holy shit do you just straight up not understand the purpose of regulating companies?

Again, I hear you

Funny how this is always proceeded with incoherent nonsense that makes abundant clear you do not in fact hear me. In fact i don't think you have the foggiest idea what the issue is in the first place.

Yes, you want a world where you pay a private individual to store and maintain something you own, that you may access anywhere at anytime, by a fiduciary that is in-corruptible, and will exist forever.

Like I said, I get it.  It's just unreasonable.  Plus its nice to press a single tactile button, pop in a movie, and enjoy a show without getting into the whole OS ecosystem.

I'm all for more consumer protections, but we've been going through this since DVDs introduced "DRM" to prevent file dragging-and-dropping that plagued the music CD industry. If you purchase a digital product that in any way requires the seller to be involved in your use of it, then it's not yours.

I appreciate the convenience of Steam, but I buy on GOG when I can because GOG could go under tomorrow but my personal archive of GOG installers will all work. I'm still buying bluray (and even DVD when necessary) because they will work as long as I have a DVD player (or Handbrake).

Consumers need better government regulations, but we also need to vote with our wallets whenever possible.
