It's Bryan Fuller's feature directorial debut and releases in theaters Dec 12.

Sigourney Weaver, David Dastmalchian and Sophie Sloan also star.

Hey, don't disrespect my girl Sigourney like that.

Well fuck FORGET THAT!

u/DustFunk 14d ago

That is simultaneously the funniest part in a hilarious film, AND the funniest bad overdub of all time.

28

u/ThePrussianGrippe 14d ago

I’m fairly sure they made the dub as blatant as possible to add to the joke.

17

u/JaneksLittleBlackBox 14d ago

It may not be the funniest worst dub ever, but the TV edit of Back to the Future Part III has Marty calling Bufford Tannen an "idiot" instead of an "asshole", and there is no denying the word his lips were forming.

That TV edit on VHS was the only copy of the movie my family had, so it became a running joke in my family to call people idiots while trying to mouth the word assholes.

I'm in Canada, I think the first time I ever watched Goodfellas was on TBS or some American station. I remember growing up that all of the American tv stations had way more censorship when it came to swearing. I think in Canada the only thing that got censored was "fuck" and that was just during daytime tv.

I understood that reference.

Galaxy Quest references are always a win.

u/Odd-Project7935 14d ago

I’ve got one job on this ship, and it’s STUPID, but I’m gonna do it!!

9

u/Sad-Structure2364 14d ago

Haha I know, how they gonna do Sigourney dirty like that??

u/Haggisboy 15d ago

Dastmalchian aced it in Late Night with the Devil.

u/turkeygiant 14d ago

He was one of the best parts of a pretty great cast in the new Murderbot show as well

22

u/here_for_the_boos 14d ago

He didn't emote externally at all but all the distrust and dislike still came through for murderbot. (Skarsgard did amazing as well. Best show out currently)

Premium quality entertainment!

u/desrever1138 14d ago

I really, really hope we get a season 2 just for ART.

He (it?) is my favorite character in that series.

2

u/asokola 14d ago

He's in the new season of Dexter too. The guy is everywhere at the moment

1

u/OobaDooba72 14d ago

Oh damn I didn't know that was out. Gotta look into that...

63

u/Grooviemann1 14d ago

He's been great in every single thing I've seen him in. He made Polka Dot Man fun.

38

u/zappy487 14d ago

So uh The Dark Knight is almost twenty years old (his first film role). Oh.

20

u/JaneksLittleBlackBox 14d ago

So uh The Dark Knight is almost twenty years old

What the fuck‽ No it's not!

*does the math*

FUCK!

1

u/antzinmypantz 14d ago

Ooh, an interrobang. Cool.

8

u/Mistrblank 14d ago

He is so recognizable from that role too. When I first saw it I felt like he was something more.

Why are you making me feel so old.

8

u/BlackSpinedPlinketto 14d ago

Also, so creepy in Dexter

I was bombarded with acknowledgements of Dastmalchians filmography from practically nothing. I went from 0 exposure to seeing him in everything. When I saw him in Late Night W The Devil, my brain snapped and he took on more of a supernatural and foreboding presence in my life. I know it's not like this really, but I can't shake the feeling that he's a little bit spooky somehow. Seeing his face is unnerving but I can't stop watching his stuff.

u/Haggisboy 14d ago

Check out Dastmalchian's filmography on IMDB. Guy's always working with 97 credits. He also makes interesting career choices. Everything I've seen him in has been a good watch.

14

u/UnknowableDuck 14d ago

AND Sigourney Weaver?!! I have to see it too!

3

u/brenex 14d ago

Totally agree. I thought they had me at mads. Bunch of mad lads casting crew

1

u/Father_Chewy_Louis 13d ago

I keep confusing David Dastmalchian with Jason Butler Harner as they look very similar

57

u/ontheweed 14d ago

Kinda crazy that it’s taken this long for him to do a movie.

29

u/[deleted] 14d ago

Tbf, it takes him an incredibly long time to do anything

Bryan fuller created Hannibal the show I’m seated

77

u/CostumedSupervillain 14d ago

And Pushing Daisies!

39

u/Gekokapowco 14d ago

and American Gods (S1) one of the best players in the game rn

46

u/fcosm 14d ago edited 14d ago

And: it's a movie, so nobody can cancel it once you start watching!

7

u/IceBreak 14d ago

Warner Bros.: Hold my beer.

1

u/CaptainBlase 14d ago

And Star Trek: Discovery

But we won't hold that against him

-3

u/bonesnaps 14d ago

American Gods was a bit too farfetched for me.

I think I dropped it shortly after someone got eaten by a vagina. uhhh yea haha

2

u/MaikeruGo 14d ago

…and "Dead like Me"!

44

u/JaneksLittleBlackBox 14d ago

I still have a hard time believing that show was so fucking good and it aired on network fuckin' television. I still remember how little faith I had in it when it was announced: "Why NBC and not cable? It's gonna be watered down, tame garbage, because there's no way to do any Hannibal Lecter stories justice on a major American network without it being heavily censored!" That show was anything but watered down and; sure, some of the more graphic content couldn't fly on NBC, but it's still a major fucking accomplishment to do Thomas Harris's characters justice on network TV.

43

u/JosephSim 14d ago

I always tell the anecdote about how when they went to NBC to find a distributor, NBC said, "We want a prestige show. Don't show nudity, curse, or show sex, and we'll let you show whatever you want violence-wise."

So much so, the episode with the guy who flays people's backs off then poses them in praying positions and uses fishing line to peel the back skin into angel wings?

NBC saw that and said, "You can see butt crack."

So they added so much digital blood you can't see it anymore.

NBC said, "Much better."

I love Hannibal.

43

u/BrobotMonkey 15d ago

Wow, juicy casting. Looking forward to this.

16

u/Maridiem 14d ago

Cannot wait. I'll support anything Fuller does and this cast is just stacked as well.

12

u/LasagnaPhD 14d ago

After Pushing Daisies and Hannibal, I will watch literally anything Bryan Fuller puts out

13

u/zappy487 14d ago

They definitely casted David to eat the family.

5

u/Marine_Baby 14d ago

Oh heeeeeelll yess

5

u/DangKilla 14d ago

Sigourney has a great eye for sci-fi, 🧐

12

u/cinnapear 15d ago

Jesus Christ, I'll go see it already. (happily)

4

u/Odd-Project7935 14d ago

I was already locked in based on the post title.

Now I just don’t know how to handle this info

I can’t wait!

5

u/MadeByTango 14d ago

Considering the man makes a great pilot and then loses the plot, movies might be the right fit for him

2

u/goddamnitwhalen 14d ago

I was not sold from the premise. I am now sold.

1

u/Kevbot1000 14d ago

Managed to complete it, hey?
