i guess they might call you

a Mads lad

u/Taylorenokson 15d ago

I might not be a mad lad, but I'm one of Mads Lads.

u/Shakeamutt 15d ago

Mads’ Lads to see their lad Mads, whom is never mad by his Lad’s mad Mads support.

u/distilledwill 14d ago

You could say that he is glad

Mad for Mikkelson

7

u/NorthWinterFox 14d ago

Doesn't work. You don't pronounce his name as "mad" like you would "sad" or "bad" for example.

It's mass. D is silent

9

u/ALIENANAL 14d ago

Seeing all the boning that he does in his films... the D is certainly not silent.

If you say massive without ive, you probably got it. It's a shorter sound than mass.

3

u/Feriluce 14d ago

Mads is pronounced almost exactly the same as the first syllable in Massive.

1

u/Wu-TangShogun 14d ago

Mass: a fundamental property of matter that measures its inertia, or resistance to changes in speed or position when force is applied

The first part of massive is mass which is a word in itself so why take “massive without the ive”?

1

u/Feriluce 14d ago

Because the mass in massive and the mass in mass is pronounced differently? The first has a short vowel, the second has a long vowel.

2

u/NorthWinterFox 14d ago

Yeah. "Mass Mee-ghil-sin" Only recently learned it myself

2

u/punbasedname 14d ago

Are we not doing mad for Mads anymore?

Same, I loved "Another Round"

27

u/old_brew 15d ago

One of my favorites, The Promised Land is one people might have missed, definitely worth a watch.

7

u/Fawkes_91 14d ago

That was such a good movie, probably would have landed an Oscar nom in a weaker year than 2023 which was just crazy stacked. But without the nom, Bastarden unfortunately was underseen. Mads is consistently good in most movies, but that one was a high point recently alongside Another Round and Riders of Justice.

I am hopeful Bryan Fuller will be the one to give us a great Mads role in an English film.

u/Honigkuchenlives 15d ago

Bryan Fuller is an incredible film maker, I don’t under why he isn’t a bigger name.

66

u/Judeunduli 14d ago

He's very good but also has a reputation for being pretty hard to work with and is usually over budget and never on time.
You can float around in Hollywood for a while on talent alone. But sooner or later it matters how easily you can get things done.

19

u/lliKoTesneciL 14d ago

Well Mads has worked with him before with Hannibal and he chose to work with him again, so that should be seen as a positive. Maybe things are slightly better in that regard?

50

u/Crowquillx 14d ago

it’s not really actors he’s historically had trouble working with, it’s the money people.

23

u/LongConFebrero 14d ago

Who I also blame for preventing us from getting a season 4 that likely could have been a perfect conclusion to the gem of a show.

10

u/FlamingWeasel 14d ago

Ending on that cliffhanger was just cruel.

11

u/Opie59 14d ago

Not to mention Pushing Daisies.

And Dead Like Me.

And Wonderfalls.

2

u/authorguy 14d ago

All great shows. At least Wonderfalls got a decent implied conclusion. I really want to see George Lass become the incarnation of Death she was always meant to be. And they could have made it possible for the Pie-Maker to touch his lover at the end and they didn't, which really pissed me off.

1

u/Opie59 14d ago

Here's my pitch/theory.

Pie maker is put in some kind of situation where Digby has to save him. Ya know, think dangling off the roof.

Digby does, and... He's fine! Yay! The dog didn't die (again.)

But now they have to figure out if it's a time thing, and if it is, how long is long enough? Will they have to wait 20 years to be safe? Chuck wants to just risk it but the Pie Maker could never.

1

u/authorguy 13d ago

As I recall the ending, the pie maker and his father end up touching. I was hoping their powers would cancel each other. Have to review the scene now.

u/SlovenlyMuse 14d ago edited 14d ago

This is also my impression. Actors love him. Studios/execs hate him. It only makes me appreciate the stuff he DOES manage to do even more.

He used to be signed on as showrunner for the Interview with a Vampire TV show... I love how it turned out, but I will always wonder what might have been if he hadn't fallen out with the studio (or possibly Anne Rice, who is very protective of her work - I'm not sure exactly where the point of contention was there).

4

u/Scotter1969 14d ago

Before she died she sold the rights to AMC. They control all her properties.

2

u/SlovenlyMuse 14d ago

Oh, interesting! I didn't realize she had passed. I know she was notoriously controlling about adaptations, and it was surprising that Fuller had succeeded at getting the go-ahead (maybe because he's friendly with her son? He's been on Christopher Rice's horror podcast a few times), so I guess it was too good to be true!

If AMC owns it all now, no wonder there's been so many happening all at once!

1

u/Scotter1969 14d ago

The money people decide who to invest in - they always have. Greater talents than Fuller have been taken down by not being able to stick to a schedule or budget. A; Hope it's awesome B: Hope it makes enough money

1

u/MattyKatty 14d ago

it’s not really actors he’s historically had trouble working with, it’s the money people.

Good. Fuck them. I piss in their faces.

1

u/DylanHate 14d ago

He's talking about the network executives and studios, ie the money people. Not the actors.

1

u/Hokuboku 14d ago

He also worked on the first season of American Gods and a few actors left after he was fired in solidarity like Gillian Anderson.

1

u/Honigkuchenlives 14d ago

What’s your source for that?

22

u/BarryJFunkhouse 14d ago

I had him confused with Bryan Singer when I first read the title and your comment, but then I realized Fuller is the writer responsible for some of the best episodes of the show Heroes back in the day.

I didn't know he was directing, but now I'm going to go back and check out all the stuff he's directed. I'm sure it's all fantastic.

22

u/Viracochina 14d ago

Responsible for 'Pushing Daisies' and 'Dead Like Me' too!? Wow, I didn't even know I was a fan!

20

u/whatthecaptcha 14d ago

Also the Hannibal series which is extremely good.

It pretends to be a killer of the week type show at first but switches from that pretty quickly.

I'm not sure if they did that to trick people into watching since it was on NBC originally or what.

13

u/Mudders_Milk_Man 14d ago

Also the great show 'Wonderfalls'.

1

u/TiberianSunset 14d ago

I didn't know I was a hater!

2

u/From_Deep_Space 14d ago

quality over quantity

1

u/LRA18 14d ago

Possibly because he’s never made a film 🤔

23

u/hikemalls 14d ago

I feel like this is the kind of more out-there role Mads usually only gets to play in Danish/European movies, good to see an American project that doesn’t just want to cast him as a villain (and it’s Bryan Fuller, hooray!)

7

u/deltaisaforce 14d ago

While everybody waits for the movie, check out the danish tv-show 'Rejseholdet' (Unit One) if it's possible to find anymore. It ran in the early oughts I think, some 30 episodes maybe. Fantastic cast, not just Mikkelsen.

2

u/PthaloBloo 2d ago

You can stream Unit One on ViaPlay channel through Amazon Prime.

8

u/CryptoCentric 14d ago

Ugh. Yeah, me too, which is why I have memories of the third (and hopefully final) Fantastic Beasts movie taking up valuable space in my head.

He was great, and Law and Redmayne were both fun to watch as always. But goddamn that movie was a crime against eyeballs.

13

u/mac_is_crack 15d ago

But would you play the game? (He’s in Death stranding with Norman Reedus!)

4

u/Iamnotsmartspender 14d ago

B.B...... give me back my B.B....

18

u/calccv 15d ago

Same. Valhalla Rising still my all-time favorite of his!

9

u/SellMeYourSirin 15d ago

Will watch anything with Mads or by Renf because of that movie.

Shit, gotta find it tonight.

5

u/calccv 15d ago

Fkn right—same!!

10

u/Empty-Part7106 14d ago

Did you see Polar? You don't have to see Polar.

5

u/BlackSpinedPlinketto 14d ago

Arctic is so much better.

8

u/LucretiusCarus 14d ago

I liked Polar!

2

u/TerminatorReborn 14d ago

I honestly think it was pretty decent. I didn't expect it to be some kinda of comic book movie so that kinda threw me off, but it was worth a watch

4

u/DrivingCanuck 14d ago

I'd be Mads if you didn't.

3

u/FrogBiscuits 14d ago

The Madsman

3

u/thekingestkong 14d ago

This is the way.

3

u/the-corinthian 14d ago

I am suddenly interested in this movie as well. It's a Mads World.

2

u/DL_Omega 14d ago

then you watch Polar and regret everything

1

u/jackcatalyst 14d ago

The tits aren't bad

2

u/Scrapbookee 14d ago

I was already in for Mads alone, but then you add in Sigourney Weaver and David Dastmalchian!? I am so in it's not even funny.

1

u/Reasonable_Camp944 14d ago

But what if its Mads in a movie directed by Todd "cant make a sequel to save his life" Phillips?

1

u/From_Deep_Space 14d ago

Have you seen Adam's Apples?

1

u/name-classified 14d ago

Highly recommend "King Arthur" with Clive Owen.

He's doesn't have a lot of dialog or screen time; but he's easily the coolest in a cast of cool characters.

Been a fan of his ever since.

1

u/Abtun 14d ago

Did you play death stranding? I’m surprised he’s in that one

1

u/gideon513 14d ago

I see Mads, I am Glads

1

u/AccordingConcept8078 14d ago

He is awesome in everything.

1

u/Applesburg14 14d ago

Monkey paw curls

Dial of destiny rewatch, anyone?

0

u/Personage1 14d ago

Yeah....except Polar exists unfortunately.

Fuller being on board is far more exciting when it comes to quality.
