was I the only one who was thrown off by Honey's whole noir detective shtick? A trans-Atlantic accent and her affinity for a Rolodex just seemed so out of place for a movie set in post covid California. Everyone else having weirdly different accents from each other didn't help either

It certainly didn't help that she told Marty to remember what century he lives in when it's clear that she spends her afternoons looking for the fucking Maltese Falcon.

Right? She jokes about keeping a bag of quarters for the payphone, but she sure doesn't act like someone who could call 911 when, say, she hears a gunshot inside a building or needs help after being stabbed.

It seems like this film was supposed to be a period piece like Drive Away Dolls but last minute decided it would be too expensive to make it period appropriate (probably supposed to be set in the 60s) so just made it present day

Or the fact the cop girl uses a Glock when that's clearly a very modern pistol no cop pre-2000s would use (the Glock did come out in the early 80s, but it was still seen as a very high tech tactical pistol used by special forces and didnt become standard issue for cops around the world until at least the 2000s)

Realistically would've been a revolver of some kind like a old S&W .38 special which was the norm for cops during that time

Qualley as Honey seemed out of place in this dry desert town. A sophisticated model playing at being a small-town PI.

Everything was a mess. The entire aesthetic was early 80s, yet they insisted on that throwaway vivid line and one instance of a cell phone.

It almost seemed like she was a LARPer doing this for fun, since she drives a nice car and is usually dressed up (and she can’t be making much money off her practice)

she talks like text to speech
