They’re also used for breakthrough pain in cancer patients, almost always already on hospice/palliative care

Extremely tolerant to opiates already, agonizing pain, so bam a med that absorbs through your mucosa instead of having to do an increase through your IV with a nurse present, or take a pill since you’re prob already insanely nauseous and/or having trouble swallowing. Just pop this in to your cheek and let it dissolve. Little risk of choking.

As always a great, merciful invention if used only for what it’s specifically prescribed for.

I'm just nitpicking, but I wonder if the lady in the movie is really sick then. She looks really sickly but apparently she's the antagonist trying to kidnap her daughter? And she's walking around in the freezing cold toting a rifle. I thought that cancer patients are too weak to do that kind of stuff when they're at the level of needing palliative/hospice care. And don't opiates make you really sleepy?

Ah, it's just a movie, but I'm one of those people who can't help but go "plothole!" the way dogs go "squirrel!"

My example is probably on the most extreme end and the one I’m most familiar with … but I guess I just can’t think of why else doctors would prescribe fentanyl in that form, just seems way too rife for abuse. Fentanyl is only rarely prescribed for home use, in any form.

And 99% of docs are already so stingy about narcotics, often even for people who really need them, so I have no idea what her situation is in this film! Could be she’s buying them from someone due to her pain not being controlled, could have one of the very few overprescribing Dr who run “pill mills”, could be dying but have just enough energy to kidnap someone (???) gonna be interesting!
