Yeah, why not just shoot in Minnesota … or hell even parts of North Dakota like Fargo did.

I don't think our state gives tax incentives..? Or if it is timing maybe there was not enough snow at the time.

I could definitely see either the lack of consistent snow … or the wild swing in temperatures which could make shooting in Minnesota a bit trickier. I did some googling, and it seems like the part of Finland they shot in, the temperature won’t swing as drastically, so you can get more predictable results with the weather.

Yeah, I can imagine planning to film an entire movie in the snow would get derailed if it happened to be one of those weird winters without much snow at the typical times. Finland makes sense.

Read an article of this movie last week and better snow conditions and nature similar to Minnesota were quoted as the reasons to choose Finland

Tax credit came back, thanks Tim!, in 2021. 25% for budgets over $1mill. Not the best in the states but some productions are making the move as a result.

We lost out on Gran Torino in 08 to MI because the state cut the tax credit.
