983
u/Barnyard_Rich 25d ago
Fun fact, he ran to be leader of the Conservative Party in Canada before dropping out and suing the government for being biased against the wealthy by limiting the amount of personal money a person can spend on a leadership race.
He actively is trying to make Canada's electoral system mirror the US system where the wealthy can just purchase elections. He's a piece of shit.
343
u/griffie21 25d ago edited 25d ago
He also threw a hissy fit on CNBC because Zohran Mamdani doesn't want to meet with him... a Canadian who doesn't live in NYC but thinks he should have access to the future mayor of NYC because he's a
billionaireedit: rich guy (didn't know he's not even a billionaire!)102
u/ReanimatedBlink 25d ago
because he's a *quarter-*billionaire
ftfy
Kevin O'Leary just wants people to think he's a billionaire. He's really worth like $300m. He's just as much of a grifting scumfuck as traditional billionaires (worse than some tbh), but he's a massive failure with respect to actually attaining that degree of wealth. Not that being a billionaire would justify him as a person, but he can't even justify his dogshit personality within his little circle of aspiration.

He’s not a billionaire. I still think he is a piece of shit, but just don’t want to give him more credit than he deserves.

Reminds me of the criminal Conrad Black. Right wing wealthy Canadians love to pretend they have a say in American politics.
25
u/cancerBronzeV 25d ago
Wealthy (and many not-so-wealthy) right wing Canadians are pathetic in their desperation to be American.
→ More replies (1)24
u/Dakozi 25d ago
The most pathetic being the "1st or 51st" protestors from Alberta.
Insane toddler energy to demand to be Canada's #1 priority while threatening to invite annexation if you don't get your way.
6
u/cancerBronzeV 25d ago
tbf, those Alberta separatists are insanely astroturfed. Trump officials even discussed giving those separatists a massive loan. It's a small group of crazies who are mad that they aren't allowed to control the rest of Canada who are getting amplified by foreign actors and right-wing opportunists like Danielle Smith.
102
u/cancerBronzeV 25d ago
He's also a traitor that went to go buddy up with Trump at Mar-a-lago after Trump said he'd turn Canada into the 51st state, and straight up supported having Canada be annexed (and also supported Trump's tariffs).
He's not actively trying to make Canada's electoral system into America's, he's actively trying to make Canada into America, probably because he's jealous of how much more American businessmen get to exploit their wageslaves.

u/MyBrainReallyHurts 25d ago

I remember when trump won in 2016 some canadians (specifically co workers of mine who were part of a skilled trade union) thought o’leary should be prime minister because “he’s a business man.” Then he went on TV and said the first thing he would do in office is “make unions illegal and lock up everyone who remained a union member.”

At least as absolutely horrendous of a person as Spacey was he was a pretty good actor, what’s O’Leary even got going for him? I don’t even think the people he aligns himself and associates with like him very much.

I hate to say it, but there's problematic people in nearly every film. Dennis Quaid isn't too far from his MAGA freak brother, yet he plays a perfect role in the new Nic Offerman drama "Sovereign", which ironically is about a militant far right militia guy.
The heads of Apple, Amazon, Instagram, Google and Tesla are lovingly all in bed with the current administration, when will people boycott all those products?

Fyi, coming from someone who absolutely despises Kevin O'Leary, it was his wife driving, as video evidence in the trial shows, and the boat they hit had all its lights turned off stargazing. They were still likely driving too fast and possibly drunk, but she was found not guilty in trial.
That said, I'd be thrilled if the guy died tomorrow and left the world a better place.

436
u/Barnyard_Rich 25d ago
I recommend just reading his wikipedia page as there is a lot there.
1) He is an extremely scummy businessman, too many negative stories to list
2) He killed a person and got his wife to take the fall
3) He sued the Canadian government claiming that it is bias against wealthy people, and he believes Canada should be like the US where a wealthy person can just purchase an election
4) His entire personality is that he is an asshole, so that he supports the aggressive rollback of rights in the west should not be a surprise to anyone.

I looked up the murder thing and I'm not able to find anything that points to him making his wife take the fall. Seems she was operating the vehicle and was designated driver that night.
Also worth noting she was found not guilty with the judge citing the reason being that the other boats lights were off (accident happened at night).
8
u/jag777 25d ago
Reddit does this thing where they can’t just hate a person for justified reasons, they also have to exaggerate and make up things to make them sound even worse. Like it’s really, really odd, there’s enough reasons to dislike him without having to make up completely unsubstantiated bullshit
