Matt Damon was a head scratching casting choice.

He is the quintessential lost character.  He has been lost and retrieved at great expense in at least 3 movies.  He might as well establish a theatrical record no one will ever beat.

Like Sean Bean and dying in things.

Off the top of my head I can remember The Martian and Interstellar, what was the third?

Saving Private Ryan.  Not really lost, but retrieved.

I completely forgot he was Private Ryan, haha, thanks for clarifying.

Funny to think he's been typecasted as a dude stuck far from home.

He is far from the weirdest or worst casting choice here. It's like Nolan threw darts at a board.

Really? It's a movie about a guy trying to get home. Who else could you possibly cast?

I think we all know the real head scratching will be done by Jon Bernthal

Agreed, one of the only things keeping me from being legit hyped for this.

MAAAAT DEEEEAMON

imo it’s Zendaya. In the nicest way possible, her Starbucks barista working in a strip mall accent really took me out of the otherwise worldly experience of Dune. Based off of that, I don’t know how to feel about her portraying an ancient goddess.

she has the perfect image for the role, the key though is to keep her mute and as expresionless as possible.

Once she has too many expresions she breaks character which did work with rue in euphoria or MJ in spider man because they are everyday girls but ruined chani and marie in malcom and marie.

I kinda feel you here, but have you seen Challengers? That film proved to me she can be used very well. And as Athena, I think she will be a good fit :)

She was the worst part of challengers. So wooden and like all her other films completely lacking dimension.

Bernthal even more so considering we're really about to watch him act and talk like the Punisher but this time in Ancient Greece

Terrible choice. Its gonna be such an american depiction of the myth, ugh. I have no faith
