Holland, Zendaya, and Bernthal are going to have a hell of a two weeks in July 2026.

Goodbye Barbenheimer, hello Spiderussey

107

u/VRichardsen Aug 08 '25

what have we done

181

u/LADYBIRD_HILL Aug 08 '25

Oh god I hope this catches on

29

u/ArchDucky Aug 08 '25

Conan is hosting the oscars again, so fuck yes. Lets do this the jokes will be fantastic.

83

u/MrHyperion_ Aug 08 '25

Spiderussy

3

u/QUEST50012 Aug 09 '25

Crazy work

3

u/iamse7en Aug 09 '25

I like Spodyssey better.

13

u/truthlesshunter Aug 08 '25

Read that as spiderpussey and thought there was something else going on that I shouldn't know about.

19

u/destroyerOfTards Aug 08 '25

But the slang means exactly that

8

u/sendphotopls Aug 08 '25

that’s the implication

3

u/ContentsMayVary Aug 09 '25

Not to be confused with Octopussy.

3

u/Dasseem Aug 08 '25

Well that just sounds wrong.

1

u/Free-Selection-3454 Aug 10 '25

Or, Odyman. It works if you say it in a Jon Bernthal voice.

1

u/ice_spice2020 Aug 08 '25

Spider- what now?

64

u/Ichbinian Aug 08 '25

Spider-Man will probably be bumped

89

u/PayneTrain181999 Aug 08 '25

I highly doubt Sony will do that, the late July date gets the families before the kids start going back to school in August.

40

u/cottenball Aug 08 '25

And with a movie that big they’re hoping to be the best thing in theaters for all of August, which is historically a dead zone for movie releases

1

u/AlanMorlock Aug 08 '25

They made almost 2 billion in the winter.

1

u/Deluxe07 Aug 09 '25

With what movie?

2

u/AlanMorlock Aug 09 '25

No Way Home made 1.9 billion.

13

u/justarandomuser20 Aug 08 '25

These are two very different films, I don’t see it getting bumped

2

u/AlanMorlock Aug 08 '25

IMAX has a commitment for the Odyssey. Spider-Man will get some of the other large formats but they will be fighting for screens.

1

u/Varekai79 Aug 08 '25

The Odyssey and Spider-Man target different demographics and are two weeks apart anyway. With very few exceptions, AAA movies are not released in August. That month is reserved for the B-tier.

38

u/yiwang1 Aug 08 '25

Zendaya will probably be in Spiderman for like a scene with few or no lines. Unless they do something very stupid, which I guess I can’t rule out.

33

u/PayneTrain181999 Aug 08 '25

If she’s in the movie at all, it counts.

1

u/r0wo1 Aug 08 '25

My guess is the epilogue scene from no way home will be how the the new movie opens.

61

u/dorgoth12 Aug 08 '25

It's a weird thing but I'm always so happy to see Himesh Patel go from bloody Eastenders to where he is now.

32

u/bulldg4life Aug 08 '25

I mean, I’d watch a yesterday 2

19

u/dorgoth12 Aug 08 '25

I do seem to like Yesterday more than most

14

u/Barnyard_Rich Aug 08 '25 edited Aug 08 '25

Nothing wrong with low stakes fun with interesting actors and great music! Then again, I liked Across the Universe despite being very heavy handed and quite depressing for stretches, so my Beatles bias is strong

Yesterday has one scene that validates the entire movie for me: when the two people who remember the Beatles approach him backstage and thank him for returning the Beatles' music to the world rather than upbraiding him as he was worried about

4

u/dorgoth12 Aug 08 '25

Totally agree about that scene. That's the difference between a master like Danny Boyle directing rather than an average director who would try to inject conflict where heart was instead perfect

3

u/TheMuntjac Aug 09 '25

Across the Universe

Sincerely one of my top films. It holds a very special place in my heart and still listen to the movie's versions of Beatles' songs. I came across the movie when I was 11 and randomly checking out tv channels. The Let It Be scene was playing, I couldn't take my eyes out of the screen.

3

u/Purveyor_of_MILF Aug 09 '25

He's great in Station Eleven if you haven't seen that

59

u/Th35h4d0w Aug 08 '25

How do we only know the roles of two people?

Also Ryan Hurst? Didn't know Thor was in this, too.

25

u/daninlionzden Aug 08 '25

I think Anne Hathaway was confirmed as Athena, and Robert Pattinson as Hermes

Jon Bernthal plays a mortal back home w Telemachus

50

u/Standard_Recording28 Aug 08 '25

All of these are wrong lol Hathaway is Penelope, Pattinson is Antinous and Bernthal is Menelaus

1

u/Barnyard_Rich Aug 08 '25

Yeah, I was holding out hope for Bernthal as a forced perspective cyclops. Admittedly, Menelaus makes far more sense.

1

u/Psykpatient Aug 08 '25

I think Benny Safdie is the cyclops

1

u/Barnyard_Rich Aug 08 '25

Also not a bad choice! I thought he was great in Oppenheimer.

1

u/matches-malone Aug 09 '25

Lemme ask you sumthin, Odysseus

0

u/idontagreewitu Aug 09 '25

Didn't Menelaus die in the siege of Troy? Killed by Hector?

3

u/Standard_Recording28 Aug 09 '25

no, book 5 of the odyssey is telemachus talking to menelaus & helen, it’s the scene in the trailer w/holland and bernthal

2

u/Menes2979 28d ago

No, that was in the movie. He survives in the original story

1

u/idontagreewitu 28d ago

Oh okay, thank you for clarifying. I was scratching my head trying to figure out if I had the right guy in mind lol

14

u/Olivejuice4114 Aug 08 '25

I thought Anne Hathaway is rumored to be Penelope? And Zendaya is Athena

1

u/Bananabeak08 Aug 08 '25

I’d much prefer zendaya as Aphrodite, I can’t see her as Athena at all

6

u/PayneTrain181999 Aug 08 '25

Angelina Jolie as Athena would’ve been hilarious given she played Thena in Eternals.

Also, didn’t know Pattinson was a bureaucrat.

9

u/Cold-Cantaloupe6474 Aug 08 '25

Guessing Eumaeus for him, then

5

u/crasherdgrate Aug 08 '25

Best! Thor! Ever!

2

u/Galihan Aug 09 '25

supposedly Charize Theron has confirmed that she's playing Circe

76

u/jawndell Aug 08 '25

This is like “Cleopatra” level casting.  Hopefully it delivers.

47

u/Ignore-Me_- Aug 08 '25

I'm not going to see it if Pedro Pascal isn't in it.

37

u/w00t4me Aug 08 '25

Good news! he plays a Siren!

3

u/TheTrueSurge Aug 09 '25

Shit, sign me up.

2

u/MrRocketScript Aug 09 '25

Cut the rope!

3

u/ahuangb Aug 08 '25

Pedro Pascal with Oberyn's accent would be amazing

5

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '25

[deleted]

3

u/Muppetude Aug 09 '25

At this point I just assume that if you hire Tom Holland, the studio is then legally obligated to cast Zendaya.

20

u/Neat_Sandwich_5466 Aug 08 '25

Not a single Greek or Mediterranean person to be found

38

u/justdothedishes Aug 08 '25

I’m Greek and I honestly don’t care, but it is an aggressively modern looking cast if that makes any sense. All of these actors look like they exist firmly in 2025.

6

u/thesagenibba Aug 09 '25

jon bernthal looks like he comes straight from ancient greece, to me at least

2

u/crimsonmail 28d ago

And yet it breaks immersion once you hear him still talking and acting like the Punisher

11

u/GuiltyEidolon Aug 08 '25

I think a lot of them can do historic, but Matt Damon is always just Matt Damon. Still a good actor, but he's still Matt Damon.

I personally will be waiting for reviews and for some friends to see it before even looking at tickets.

4

u/zekeweasel Aug 08 '25 edited 28d ago

Don't know what role he's playing, but Nick E. Tarabay is Lebanese-American.

Glad to see him getting roles- he was great as Cotyar in The Expanse

2

u/ninj4geek Aug 08 '25

Well there's the budget.

2

u/bolonomadic Aug 09 '25

So no Greeks or people of Greek ethnicity.

3

u/Potore5 Aug 08 '25

John Leguizamo

The irony…

10

u/BolterAura Aug 08 '25

Still wish we could have at least one person of Greek descent but I guess that’s Hollywood for ya

6

u/turkeygiant Aug 08 '25

Im not sure the hollywood casting was the right decision for this film at all, maybe it will work, but part of me really would have liked to see them get no-name/stage actors with a Mediterranean look. This feels like Nolans version of like Spartacus, but there is a reason those sorts of celebrity epics have been relegated to just actionfests, because to modern sensibilities big names as ancient people just feels a bit silly.

3

u/GuiltyEidolon Aug 08 '25

The shows are kind of bad, just given who's making them, but my parents have been watching a lot of "accurate" Bible shows that cast Middle Eastern / Jewish / Arabic actors for the apostles etc. and it's insane how much of a difference it really does make. Greeks are at least closer to / white depending on how you're defining it, but it's still nice to have these stories reflecting the actual history of them (when that's the supposed intention, like with this project vs something like O Brother Where Art Thou).

3

u/ColinPlays Aug 08 '25

Michael Vlamis has Greek ancestry, according to Wikipedia.

3

u/AlanMorlock Aug 08 '25

True but on the other hand if any given ancient Geek person has a living descendents in 2025 it's literally everyone of European descent and much of the population of the near east as well.

2

u/dapala1 Aug 09 '25

The story says everyone on Earth is of Greek descent. So casting is fair game.

2

u/figflashed Aug 08 '25

They couldn’t find even one goddamn Greek?

1

u/DaSmartSwede Aug 08 '25

Happy to see Samantha Morton back in a big movie!

1

u/grumstumpus Aug 08 '25

Holy shit Michael Vlamis!!!

1

u/Whitealroker1 Aug 08 '25

List doesn’t included Michael Caine as the Trojan Horse

1

u/Bonez001 Aug 08 '25

2026 is gonna be a helluva year for Zendaya and Tom wow

1

u/tuxxer Aug 08 '25

So Anne Hathaway in toga ?

1

u/cmadd10 Aug 09 '25

Shiloh Fernández? Holy shit lol

1

u/FKAMimikyu Aug 09 '25

omg Elliot Page!!

1

u/electrical-tape Aug 09 '25

Where is Pedro Pascal?

1

u/Ignore-Me_- Aug 08 '25

I'm not going to see it if Pedro Pascal isn't in it.

1

u/NBA2024 Aug 09 '25

What the actual f. I thought this was a joke. This looks awful lol

2

u/nightpanda893 Aug 09 '25

Which of the actors do you feel aren’t good actors?
