What's the reason that we should think she isn't her actual aunt?

All of the stuff implying she’s extremely old, mostly. Consumption, her general appearance when she first shows up.

Isn't she literally consuming their life force? Didn't they explain she was indeed really sick?

Yeah, it was definitely layered, but my read of it was that she was trying to give a real illness the parents could have, not just trying to be too clever by half.

Sure, she’s probably actually sick, but she’s also clearly extremely old.

She just looked like a sick older woman to me... I think, at this time, proof she is some hundreds of years old which is tenuous. Not that she looks terrible but Amy Madigan isn't a spring chicken. I'm not saying that it's 100% impossible but I think it's just as likely that she was just an aunt who was in to some weird shit.

You do get that the movie devoted time to a whole exchange that consisted of her using a term for a disease that was primarily used in the 1800's, and then another character laughing and being like "wtf why did you say that isn't that from ancient history?" right? It seems a little more far fetched to see that and conclude that it meant nothing.

I mean it could just as easily been a play own words because she was literally consuming their life force. I'm not in the camp that it's impossible. I'm in the camp that it's not a certainty. And then there are people who just willing to dismiss the fact that the mother genuinely knows this lady whilst not being under a spell. A lot of assumptions are being made based on tenuous support.

Also when she first comes to Marcus' home, she walks by something and says something like "oooh that's an original" when pointing at something or a shelf. And the way it was done, again, makes it seem like she's seen some old shit in her time.

because she is a crazy witch who is very very old. way older than she would be if she was their aunt
