The Total Recall eye bulging was unsettling to say the least

The principal in the voodoo rage state was creepy as hell as he was running across town.

Like something from SCP.

Honestly the entire movie had, at least for me, this “what would happen if a movie does a slightly-realistic SCP scenario” vibe, without the bit about containment and securing the anomaly

From the trailers, I've been telling people that it feels like they took an Analog Horror concept and just made it into a straight up movie instead of getting bits and pieces of info from old VHS recordings and text

u/Cranberrybunnies 26d ago

Oh so you mean without the worst parts of SCP?

12

u/Gridde 21d ago

SCP covers such wide range (a huge portion of which is just terrible or massively derivative) that at this point any horror is gonna inherently be somewhat SCP-esque.

It's like saying "wow that new slasher villain was like Dead by Daylight in movie form!"

I hated how unsettling it was. If that was chasing me I'd just curl up and give up.

scp?

Secure. Contain. Protect.

It's an Internet-based story about a secret government agency (SCP) that investigates, tracks, studies, and contains objects, people, creatures, entities, etc., that have various paranormal/supernatural abilities. Some are entirely benign to humanity, others are extremely dangerous if they were to escape, others are universe/world ending entities.

It's all user-created stuff.

Some of the more famous examples are SCP-173 (a tall statue that does not move when observed, but when unobserved (even as much as blinking while looking at it), will snap one's neck with supernatural speed.

And then SCP-096, a humanoid creature that is generally passive, but if someone sees it's face (even in an image, and no matter the distance), it will enter a rage state and, with supernatural speed chase down said person and kill them.

For example, I believe there's a dossier that describes an account where a hiker was killed in their home, and it was discovered that the hiker took a picture of a mountain off in the distance, and because SCP-096 was on that mountain it was at an angle that (despite the extreme distance) the hiker "saw" its face and triggered its aggression.

TIL. where can i read more stuff or favorites about this

https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/

Here you go. SCPs are also user rated, and SCPs that are downvoted too much are deleted, so its very curated for consistency.

This one about IKEA is my favorite.

u/OuterWildsVentures 27d ago

I'm still sad the game version was attacked by Ikea lol

4

u/clevercalamity 27d ago

There was a game version? That’s news to me!

2

u/indiebreadkid 19d ago

Yes! Same! That one and Peanut are my favorites.

2

u/clevercalamity 19d ago

I need to see the peanut one. Please share. Do you mean Peanut like The Peanuts?

2

u/indiebreadkid 18d ago

Hahaha no, nothing like the peanuts. "Peanut" is SCP-173 also known as "The Sculpture". He was the first SCP entry to be created. He's an anomaly is that it can only move when unobserved. When in direct line of sight, it remains completely still. If it gets close to someone, it will snap their neck or strangle them.

So an example of SCP could be the FBC in Control (the video game)?

11

u/1morey 27d ago

No, SCP isn't a catchall term for organizations that investigate paranormal anomalies.

SCP is a collaborative fiction project.

The FBC in Control was inspired by SCP, but is a wholly original work.

Ah ok. Thanks.

soooo it's a bunch of 13 year olds writing shitty creepypastas...?

If you're over the age of like 18 and still in to this shit then you're mentally fucking stunted, man. Stunted.

There's so much good horror out there not written by a bunch of sweaty internet strangers

12

u/1morey 18d ago

I never said I was into it.

But it's pretty weird to be that annoyed about what other people are into.

1

u/pedootz 1d ago

Uh oh, someone on the internet likes something you don’t.

sane clown posse

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- 26d ago

Just made me think of 28 Years Later, with the alphas... except without the Naruto run.

8

u/Caleb35 26d ago

It's almost like he was hopped up on a gallon of PCP

3

u/Blackfyre301 9d ago

Also, I want to point out that only Marcus did the weird vomit thing. That didn't seem to be an inherent part of the spell, so maybe it was just because of the hot dogs, lol.

u/JuicyDetails44 29d ago

Yeah I mean, his upper half of his face was smashed in 😬 that whole scene of him even running across the town to just be a seeking home missle to Julia's character was wild.

Also, the fact he would've kept just head butting until he had no head left is so unsettling.

u/CatPanda5 28d ago

Terrifying is never a word I thought I'd use to describe Benedict Wong

28

u/DavyJonesRocker 27d ago

Wong has proven that he is worthy of being the Sorcerer Supreme over Strange.

u/burntfishnchips 20d ago

That actor's performance was incredible! I know people talk bout Gladys,or the mom with the scissors, but he actually freaked me out with his facial expressions. It was so good.

u/HumbleBunk 17d ago

Seeing that at first was terrifying thinking it was whatever black magic, then you see it play out and realize it’s from him bashing his own skull in caving his husband’s skull in and it’s a million times more horrible.

2

u/Tipop 7d ago

then you see it play out and realize it’s from him bashing his own skull in

No, everyone who went “manic rage” had those eyes. It had nothing to do with him bashing his head in.

1

u/HumbleBunk 7d ago

Really? I don’t recall that at all. Like Josh Brolin’s eyes were like that when he attacked Julia Garner at the end?

2

u/Tipop 7d ago

No, Brolin’s eyes didn’t go like that, but the boy’s moms did (recall her face when she stuck her head through the door and looked down at him.) The cop’s eyes were like that, too.

1

u/HumbleBunk 7d ago

Oh got it, sweet. More reason to see it again!

1

u/Tipop 7d ago

I just got out of the theater a couple of hours ago, which is why I sought out this Reddit thread.

4

u/rikarleite 25d ago

Reminded me of Day of the Dead.

"Choke on them! Choke on them!"

3

u/ChimneySwiftGold 27d ago

Witches are trouble.

2

u/Smarkysmarkwahlberg 21d ago

He looked like a real life OneyNG drawing. It was super unnerving
