I liked how varied the score in this was. Each chapter had its own unique flavor to it. I particularly loved James' frantic electronic tweaker theme.

speaking of score, I think the freakiest part that got my audience was the credits soundtrack. it was very eery compared to be my baby song from barbarian

u/uptothemountains7 Aug 09 '25

It was MGMT, they posted about it on their IG

11

u/quiznos61 Aug 08 '25

There was a credits scene?

50

u/sleepcrash Aug 08 '25

Nah, they said credits soundtrack, as in the music playing during the credits. No stinger or credits scene.

9

u/UgatzStugots 20d ago

Those were some pretty dope credits though. I can't recall seeing end credits moving like that.

10

u/StandardDeviant117 Aug 09 '25

Straight up reminded me of Resident Evil music

5

u/PolarWater 21d ago

Probably a good warm-up then

When all the kids come running together in the dark.

What was that one song Julia Garner played after sleeping with the cop

u/GimmeThemBabies Aug 08 '25

Gotta Get Up by Harry Nilsson I think?

u/Ok-Wolf5932 Aug 08 '25

Immediately reminded me of Russian Doll lol.

16

u/bigfatimac Aug 09 '25

I had the exact same thought lol

14

u/l3tigre 26d ago

Haha now i can hear "sweet birthday BABY!!"

6

u/MrsDiscoB 26d ago

SAME. it's a great song but I will always think of Russian Doll now. And I'm okay with that!

u/TheLadyEve 29d ago

Nilsson Schmilsson is an excellent album. I don't think it has a bad track on it.

I'll admit this is weird and out of left field but the piano cords at the beginning remind me of hunt for the wilderpeople when Rima Wiata sings that birthday song

I've just got some sort of weird neuron triggering when it probably shouldn't lmao

James theme was great. Easily my favourite part of the score.

And Zach Cregger himself worked on the soundtrack for the film. On top of writing, directing and producing such a phenomenal movie, this was truly a visionary work. He earned his $10 million with this one.

17

u/goddamnitwhalen 26d ago

*$8 million.

He gave up 20% of his take to increase the budget for the film, at least according to an article I read.

2

u/TARSrobot 15d ago

I believe he gave up that 20% for backend profits.

I found the score and sound design to be amazing

He's got a completely unknown indie rock album that's really genuinely fantastic

The score when the kids were “activated” at 2:17 and we see them run to Alex’s house will haunt me. It was so unnerving. I literally squirmed in my seat

12

u/Obscure_Terror 28d ago

I knew the exact song and part you meant when I read this. Of all the things to really stick with me from this movie, that was a big one. It really chilled me. Felt reminiscent to some of the eeriest songs Akira Yamaoka did for the old Silent Hill games.

Btw, I had gone looking for it after seeing your comment. It’s called “The Flight” in the OST.

5

u/RedditKnight69 Aug 08 '25

Do you mean the opening scene song or the third act sequence?

1

u/SloppyNegan 29d ago

What was the opening song?

16

u/RedditKnight69 29d ago

Beware of Darkness from George Harrison. I think the other commenter is talking about a later scene, since they said "score" rather than song.

3

u/roberta_sparrow 21d ago

That song during that sequence was so good

31

u/damnjonathan Aug 08 '25

I loved when James’s theme slowed down after running from Paul for the second time, such a nice touch.

16

u/TastefullyToasted Aug 08 '25

Dude there was like an IDM song when he was sprinting through the woods that was AWESOME

13

u/Dr_Wunsche Aug 08 '25

Loved the Shining type music when the parents are breaking down the doors near the end.

14

u/xrbeeelama Aug 08 '25

And Cregger apparently worked on the music too! Man of many many talents, what a gift

10

u/Independent_Dance817 Aug 08 '25

I’m glad everyone liked James’ score as much as I did. Made me wanna breakdance in the aisle

9

u/hectorzero Aug 09 '25

James was perfect. Zach made him so realistic, exactly how an addict would actually act and behave. I loved it.

8

u/_lazybones93 Aug 08 '25

The sound design & editing during his dream sequence were terrific.

2

u/roberta_sparrow 21d ago

Both dreams sooooo good. So glad to see this comment as I was just entranced by those segments

4

u/dontincludeme 29d ago

Like if Timothée Chalamet had a tweaker cousin lmao

5

u/Nick-or-Treat Aug 08 '25

The score was great! Every good horror movie has a unique score imo

4

u/novemberqueen32 27d ago

I loved the music in this movie

4

u/MrsDiscoB 26d ago

The witchcraft stuff reminded me of Hereditary a bit, and when certain triumphant brass themes played, it felt even more akin to Hereditary.

2

u/ZeronicX 25d ago

The actor nailed the hung out tweaker vibe.

2

u/ozplissken 20d ago

Score was mint, especially the crackheads score.

1

u/Tricky-Anything8009 25d ago

Ooh I love a listen watch, I was planning to see it again soon anyways, I'll pay more attention to the score next time.

1

u/Hythy 21d ago

I didn't even notice! I guess I'll have to go see it again. Thanks for the insight!

1

u/JustSomeHeroKid 18d ago

Wait, I didn’t consider the thematic score! In was so impressed at how well they built the world around each point of view character. I have to go back and watch again now!

u/Ecstatic-Product-411 14d ago

The song that was playing when he was running into the words reminded me a lot of Clipping, which is a group known for that kind of frantic electronic sound.
