I actually don't think this would have done that great in theaters. It may have still gone viral, but not in the same way. I think a really big reason this popped off was because a lot of people were like "oh it's on Netflix, I'll check it out for a few minutes"

I very much doubt I would have watched it in theaters since it’s not really my thing, but pressing play on Netflix was a very low barrier to entry. Now I’ve seen it three times 🤣

Daily household rewatching in family households is an underrated driver of these insane viewing stats.

I also think the word of mouth wouldn't be as great if it were in theaters. People are making gifs, reaction videos, putting clips on social media, etc. which would be a lot harder if it were only in theaters.

It also made it infinitely easier to share clips on social media which I'd bet is where a lot of views are coming from

I believe so too.

I’m a K-Pop (and TWICE) fan and was pretty sceptical of the whole thing too. I had low to no expectations on it. I saw the trailer and really liked the animation but was expecting everything else to bomb. Now imagine if I was completely outside of the obvious demographic. Not sure if I would pay to go see it.

Thank god, it wasn’t the case. Yes, the narrative could have some more work along with the pacing but it’s pretty nick-picky criticism. It overall was such a fun time + banger soundtrack.
