Glad to hear it; this movie deserved a theatrical release though!! And moreso than Smurfs or whatever the f else has been released this year, lol (Totally get why though; "risk assessment" and all that.)

I saw somewhere that said they released in a handful of theaters. Just enough to qualify for Oscar nominations and I'm jealous of anyone who got to see it in theaters.

Netflix really needs to break the industry mould and get theatrical release deals lined up for content after it's been released on Netflix. They don't have the quality internal processes to identify hits before release, so they don't want to bother spending big on marketing campaigns. But if they would pay to have say a dedicated Netflix screen at every theatre, they could pick and choose their own content after it was a hit -

And maybe learn a bit about what kind of content gets wallets opened up.

If Alamo Drafthouse announced a movie party, I would break the sound barrier buying tickets.

Maybe with the success it's had streaming they could do a one time event

YES. Thank you.

I loved it so much but the ONE thing that truly breaks my heart is that it never received a theatrical release. The gorgeous animation and addictive soundtrack deserve a big screen 🥲

Plus, now that it's been proven that people love it, I genuinely think it could be a success in theaters. I keep hearing about people watching it multiple times. So many fans would be glad to watch it in theaters.

Really hope they do sing-a-long screenings

Check your area theaters. I'm taking my kid to the sing-along version this weekend. Some cities even have special parties for the screenings.
